61. Yoni @ 55; I am totally with you. It is unbeleavable how
leo ,   USA   (05.04.09)
shallow overwhelming majority of opinions here are. It is not Jewish like at all. We are nation of thinkers, not headless chickens.
62. #5 sages
Lisa   (05.04.09)
not all 'sages' (rabbis) are infallible and wise- not all Mullah's are wise, not all priests are wise, etc- you get the idea. I do not think Jewish religious leaders have a monopoly on wisdom- so even a religious person should not follow the leaders blindly. In this case: Jerusalem is going to be a city of old men? Force young men to marry by age 20- just because some 'sage' says so? Where does it say in the Torah that men MUST marry by age 20? Some men are still boys at that age- better wait a few years to grow up first and learn to be a responsible person. How about 24, 25? I hope Jewish men are not too old to marry at age 27- ? You are right however: A man is only as good as his word..................
63. #20 old spinsters
Markus   (05.04.09)
I suppose an old spinster would be a woman of let's say 19? to go with 'old men' of 20 who are still bachelors? #16 Ellen I agree with you regarding the general TB discussions- but this one is really ODD: a rabbi practically sending 20 year olds away because they are not married yet- get real! This has little to do with Charedei- it is about a person who is totally removed from reality- could be any religious leader- and there are- just look at what is happening in Iran, Afghanistan... etc...taking religion back to the Dark Ages......
64. ALL NORMAL PEOPLE SHOULD LEAVE JERUSALEM.
Dave ,   The White City, IL   (05.04.09)
...while you still can!!

passion). Once these young men experience sex outside of marriage because they delayed marriage and could not contain, a lifetime of dissatisfaction will follow since it is not God's will for people to have sex out of wedlock and He cannot bless people who dishonor their bodies with emotional contentment. Not to mention, the possibility of getting STD's, some of which are incurable and deadly. It is better to marry young and walk the old paths that Jeremiah said are the good way. But they should serve in the IDF or National Service whether they marry young or not. King Solomon said the military had to be THE primary occupation of ancient Israel. Those who don't want to serve in the IDF should serve in the National Service which could encompass Yeshiva studies since that is helpful to the national defense in the spiritual realm.
66. At the age of 18 all men and women should
jason white ,   afula,israel   (05.04.09)
go into the I.D.F.! Or prison! Close the "yeshivas" of the hara-dim, they serve purpose other than to teach the "students" how to be parasites. The yusuf family should be thrown out of Israel. They are no better than the nuterei karta.
67. #65 Rivkah, you are an inspiration
Lisa   (05.04.09)
Rivkah- your TB s are amazing- you come up with the most far-out arguments. Young men and sex: wow- I sure would not want to be married to a young man just because he 'cannot contain' his sex drive any longer. What a reason to get married. No thank you! I agree with you about the IDF service thought- discipline never hurt anybody- defending your country is an honorable way to grow up- Rabbis always talk about the Israeli warriors, all the wars the Israeli's have won against the heathen- well..... what about the modern army and their fight against the heathen? All of a sudden this is not part of the religion any more? So at least National service- plant trees- surely even a rabbi cannot be against that?
68. #65 - Yes, That's True ..
Christy ,   Boston, US   (05.04.09)
It's quite one thing to encourage marriage for that reason vs. mandate some magical year by which they MUST marry or leave the city. I'm not against marriage. My main point was that picking a year like 20 as a deadline to marry would cause lots of pressure for those young men and their loved ones. Also, where are the unmarried 20 year olds going to go and what will they do? Will they have skills at that age to enable them to find work and support themselves? If there is some need to set an age, why not 30-35? Kicking them out of the city at a more advanced age would give them a better chance to be able to find work and support themselves. Joining the IDF sounds like their best bet to me, if they are forced to leave Jerusalem at 20. The young men AND Israel would benefit.
69. 67 Lisa: You would not want a young man to marry
Rivkah   (05.04.09)
for the sake of remaining holy? Why do you think males marry if not for legal and honorable sex? There is nothing demeaning for the woman to be an honorable vessel for a male who wishes to be honorable and married to have sex because that is God's plan.
70. 67, 68 Lisa & Christy: Parents who want their children to
Rivkah   (05.05.09)
delay marriage should put potassium nitrate (psalte petre) in the salt shakers and food, to help them remain holy. There are so many fornicating offspring, diddling and getting diddled in the parents' home, that does not sound very holy. Holy marriage is a public acknowledgement of a sacred duty to a spouse, not sex outside of wedlock. What a lot of Mexican families do is to let the children marry young and live with the parents as a married couple while they continue school or college or work to save enough money to live on their own. That is difficult for the parents, but it is better to be holy than unholy in the long run.
71. #69 - Yes there is
P ,   Philadelphia   (05.05.09)
It is in fact demeaning to suggest that women give up their life to be somebody else's vessel. Women should marry for their own reasons or not at all. As for males, I suspect many of them marry for love companionship - they want someone to share their life so they won't be lonely, and they marry someone whom they've come to love. These are far better reasons than sex - there is nothing illegal or dishonorable about sex outside of marriage, but it won't make one any less lonely.
72. #69 - Vessel?
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (05.05.09)
Is that how you see yourself? A vessel for ejaculations?
73. Great I would like to see
Jonas ,   ME   (05.05.09)
More of these people i.e. the Rabbi in Israel.
74. Poor Leo
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (05.07.09)
When will you learn to speak English? By the way Leo, much as I do find fault with the religious ways of the herediim, they still are JEWS. Even the "ANCIENT" 20 year old bachelors. Why don't you quit defending BEE ESS as if it were written in the LUACH.
75. Age for marriage
Danny ,   London England   (05.28.09)
Among Ashkenazic circles the normal age for marriage is about 23 or 24. Few 19 year olds are ready for the full responsibility of providing for a family. The Rabbi assumes at 19 the groom must provide for his wife and family -- a welcome chage from living off others, quite widespread among Ashkenazim!
76. married at 19?!
yehudah ,   jerusalem   (06.12.09)
that's why haredim go to hookers! your dress code is just for show. for you guys it's PURIM all year long!! ALL of Shas should leave jerusalem!! AMEN!
77. Rabbi Yosef
Rita ,   N.Y USA   (06.15.09)
This is a very dangerous man. He is against his own people. We should unite not divide. We have enough enemies. We certainly do not need one of our own to promote hatred.
78. The secular need learn Rabbis a genius
Zivron   (04.13.13)
Having children if capable was one of Ben Gurions axioms maybe not Twelve but 3-4 he felt.alot of sexually transmitted diseases are around becoming resistant to antibiotics and antibiotic resistance is increasing. So xcess Promiscuity is dangerous and marrying for procreation is a survival advantage .
