1. Protests
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (06.06.09)
As per usual, there are those who insist that their way is the only way. Live and let live doesn't exist with those people. It's so nice to learn that those people living in Jerusalem who are not herediim have become nazis. Perhaps those "nazis" will see to it that the protesters are starved to death and then placed in ovens for disposal. No; that isn't what they had in mind is it !!! Opening a parking area is a no no. The herediim remind me of the anti-abortion protestors who define abortion as murder but murdering a doctor is OK. Religious ethics can be most convoluted.
2. Who are the "nazis" here ?
(06.06.09)
Those who protect property or those who want to impose their lifestyle violently ?
3. don't these peoplehave anything better to do?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (06.06.09)
oh, they are haredim. i guess not.
4. If Jerusalem is the Jewish capitol of the Jewish
jason white ,   afula,israel   (06.06.09)
state of Israel, then why do we allow these hara-dim to live there? They are not Jewish like the rest of us. They are an alien group in our midst. They should be moved out of our country and sent to some place that would want them. If such a place exists? Actually they prefer the welfare state.
5. Haredim are simply
Sagi ,   Israel   (06.06.09)
disgusting and should be dealt with by the law and with the full force of it. Haredi who is not an Israeli citizen, and there are many of them, should be deported immediately. Harediism has absolutely nothing to do with Judaism, ancient or modern. It is a movement started by sick people about 250 years ago in Poland, itself a sick country. It should be banned by law in Israel because Jerusalem belongs to all Jews, of all colors and creed and disciplines and no one sector has a monopoly or the right to dictate and demand. I am so sad when I encounter these people, I am so ashamed that they and I belong to the same Nation. Please go away and leave us all alone and let us get on with the task of building a strong country without all this " God " nonsense. Sick are these folks, and so are we and the authorities for allowing these events to happen and for these folks to take an active part in our administration and Government.
6. Wait!! I don't get this. It's not ok to run a
Allan ,   US   (06.06.09)
parking lot under non-jewish management on Shabbat, but it's ok to riot? Can you say hypocrites?
7. The problem with theocracy
urisam   (06.06.09)
Israel made a big mistake in creating a religious nation state. They will be dealing with religious extremists throughout their existence unless they rework their nation as a secular, open and modern society. Let the arabs come back, employ them and build a great country together living in equality. That's the only solution.
8. Many , if not most , of those demonstrators
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.06.09)
don't even recognise Israel [ seen their outfit ] . But they want to dictate their "way of life" to a whole nation . Sadly that the police did'nt act against them with more force , they were too "soft" . And what had children to do there ? Then cry if some are wounded , shame on those "parents" who allow their children to participate
9. Police, Nazis and the Naqba Biil
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.06.09)
Maybe the Naqba Bill could include a section that would jail people for calling the Police "Nazis"
10. The haredi "job" is to pray for the Jewish people? Gevalt!
doda   (06.06.09)
11. "Six officers were lightly injured, one of them from a stone
Yet ,   USA   (06.06.09)
And the officers didn't fire back? I get it, only Palestinian stones in the hands of children are deadly.
12. Is rioting work?
Pioneer   (06.06.09)
Just wondering.
13. # 7
(06.06.09)
Israel did not create a religious nation state because the founders of the state were secular and a number of them were even atheists and agnostics. However, they agreed to allow certain civil matters, like marriage and burial, to come under the aegis of religious organizations as a way of recognizing their role in Israel's creation. However, what was supposed to remain the "status quo" spiraled out of control because of the ridiculous political situation that gives religious parties a power that is way out of proportion to their numbers. And now the overwhelmingly secular Israeli populace has to deal with fanatics who feel they have a right to impose a religious lifestyle on the rest of the country which wants no part of it.
14. Haredi Terrorism
Chaim ,   Jerusalem   (06.06.09)
These Haredim should be dealt with in the same way we deal with Palestinian rioters and stone throwers.
15. Send Them to Lebanon, Sderot or Monsey
Dav Lev ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (06.06.09)
Put these idiots in the towns and cities bordering the Gaza Strip, like Sderot. Then take away any IDF or police protection. Let Hamas finish the job. Or hows about this: send all the ultra-Orthodox to the Palestinian refugee camps..in exchange, person for person for a Muslim (who wants to live in Israel). That will satisfy the right of return demand, and get rid of these professional loafers who don't serve in the army, or work., yet expect the Israeli gov't to support their lifestyle and now anarchy. Or send them to Monsey, New York that is.
16. While I disagree with the rioting
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (06.06.09)
by Charadim over parking lots open on Shabbat, the comments by Talkbackers express, as usual, a general antipathy towards, and ignorance about, the Charedi population in Israel. Why are you secular and non-orthodox Talkbackers so nasty and why haven't you made it your business to learn something more about the actual living conditions of the Charedim before mouthing off? For one thing, I can tell you that the young Charedim are now making significant contributions to the IDF and are also starting to complete national service. This may be, in large part, due to the downturn in the economy as well as the IDF's willingness to show greater flexibility towards these recruits, i.e., not mixing men and women. As to welfare, most Charedim have been getting along on private charitable contributions. Many are now working since the flow of money from sources outside the country are not coming in so steadily. I, personally, have never been bothered by Charedim although I note, with interest, that most of them (outside the Lubavitchers) keep to themselves. Maybe that's what you Talkbackers don't like, their self-imposed isolation. Have any of you ever seriously tried to approach any of them? Nonetheless, I find their rioting and their imposition of their way of life in certain matters such as driving on Shabbat rather alien. But I am not so emotionally charged as is the case with so many Talkbackers. On the other hand, I am very upset about, and feel threatened by, the hostile Arab population both within the borders and outside them. That's where i focus my energy.
17. I was there...
(06.06.09)
This article is a one sided piece here is why The rabbis called on the city in the last 2 weeks to change their decision on opining the lot in YES a JEWISH STATES Capitol on Shabbat, any normal person can understand that there is a point that a Jewish state shall not desecrate gods will publicly, the city refused, so the protest was called. The rabbis asked for a permit but of course were refused one since Israel is a not democratic state The protest began peacefully with saying prayers on the hope that the end will be that the state will stop publicly betraying god the police started pushing the people as seen in the photo above so out of a few thousand people you had 10-20 teens who fought back the police
18. NO THEOCRACY!!!!!
al mann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.06.09)
Those mistakenly believe that our existence is based on religion are making a serious mistake which shows either basic ignorance or lack of education. The People of Israel were assigned this land, Israel, as an inheritance based on a committment to the constitution given on Mount Sinai. There is no religion involved. Islam and Christianity are religions who have attached the word to us to take away the possibility of having a land. Religions can be anywhere and don't need a land. In that way of thinking peoples of the world can inevitably throw us out of Israel again, as in the past. When will we learn about ourselves and our heritage. Stop the ignorance!! ENOUGH!!!
19. religious?
Markus   (06.06.09)
religious people protesting on a Shabbat? desecrating their own holy day over a parking lot? No comment necessary.
20. Throw food?
Ilana   (06.06.09)
Certainly this is against the Jewish law! Did they say birkat ha mazon? And dirty diapers? Sheeez!!! Disgusting. GOD will certainly punish them.
21. Shabat
Liz   (06.06.09)
Have these god fearing people got nothing better to do on a "shabbes afternoon"????
22. More media bias I suppose?
Talula ,   Israel   (06.06.09)
The vile low lives are at it again. Why should they care if parking lots are open on Saturday? The infinitesimally small-minded Haredim should be rounded up and DRIVEN to the local prison, locked up and taught a lesson. Wouldn't mind, but they won't be the ones paying for damage or clearing up the mess. Never thought they could possibly stoop any lower, how wrong I was.
23. SICKENING!!!!!!
Danielle ,   Hod Hasharon, Israel   (06.06.09)
This is so idiotic, I am speechless. So much violence over a parking spot? So much for democracy! It is scary to see that Haredim CONVINCED that they have so much power. AWEFUL, SICKENING EVENT
24. Haredim - out
LarryT ,   K.Sava   (06.06.09)
This cult make up less than 5% of the Israeli population. Why do we do what they want? Israel is the only country where the minority rules. Deal them the same hard hand that we deal with Arab terror
25. Are you crazy?
Hillary ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (06.06.09)
People SERIOUSLY rioted on SHABBAT?? Doesn't that desecrate Shabbat more than opening a parking lot?? Bloody fools!
26. my jewish land
shmuka ,   Jerusalem   (06.06.09)
my jewish land only if we keep shabat!
27. # 1 Ben
Sagi ,   Israel   (06.06.09)
Convoluted, I think not. I go much farther than that. I firmly believe that the two words religion and ethics have no place together in the same sentence, the two have zero in common with each other. The proof of this can be found throughout the history of mankind, at least since the inception of religion and the invention of "God". I shall not live to see it, but these folks will be our eventual downfall unless we check their numbers and curb their control over us. It has always puzzled me as to why one is expected to bow down to men of the cloth and to show them respect, automatically that is, without question. Personally I have contempt for them, all creeds, but especially our own home grown species.
28. Wow
Dabosshog   (06.06.09)
You people are pathetic. I read some posts and see that you seem intelligent but have lost your senses. As an outsider I am disgusted more for the lack of respect towards the Jewish people(haredi). You so-called secular in Israel are pathetic. You have no clue of what you are even there for. Goa dancing/hash smoking tards. Instead of understanding that is "not" right to open on shabbot. Instead your guilt turns to hatred.
29. Cont. Wow
Dabosshog   (06.06.09)
We as jewish people have the whole world to live a secular life. Even all of israel. Is it to much to have the most holy city for us to observe shabbot. It should be special and protected. Instead i read this BS about the founders and wellfare. Shut up. Most of you secular tards in Israel have not even been to the kotel. I go there every single time I am in Israel. you pathetic tards take this for granted. Do you think we support Israel so you can live like non-jews. think again. We all have a position to keep Israel for Jews. There or in dispora. We see how tel aviv has become. You must be so proud. By the way I am not religous. I am a proud Israeli jew who is disgusted
30. Rioting Haredis - Pathetic
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (06.06.09)
This rabble looks like an enormous oil slick. It's OK for them to riot on Shabbat but not for the city open a free parking lot to accommodate visitors to Jerusalem. Just be grateful that these useless morons don't run the country as we would all be living in the 17th. century.
