Until I came to Israel I had never heard all this rubbish and yet I come from an observant background.Unfortunately that style of religion is spreading all over the globe now!
34. To Lisa # 24
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron-Israel   (07.08.09)
Dear Lisa, I understand the basic problem for you is not what the Torah says but equality of genders. So, to make things clear, in Judaism, men and women are not the same, they are the same to Gd's eyes, but regarding men, they are the missing half of every man. When Eve was created, she was created attached to Adam from both backs, that didn't work since, however they were really close, they always looked at different things. That's why he separated us, to look together and complement each other. Ask any rabbi and he'll agree! The problem is not that women are bad, the problem is that we both have evil inclination, and we men are easily aroused, you understand now?

...and so does Mecca. It'd be best for all of us if the Rabbi and his ilk left us all alone and went where these attitudes have resonance. Nessia Tova - Safe Journey.

very funny, ghostq- would you like me to serve the beer wrapped in a clear plastic wrap (Saran wrap)- or do I have to wear a burqa? LOL

I AGREE WITH THE RABBIS, BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE IF THESE HAD BEEN SAID BY A MUSLIM PERSON. ISLAM WOULD HAVE BEEN TERMED A BACKWARD RELIGION. PEOPLE GET SERIOUS AND REAL.
38. Kowtow???
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.08.09)
For a public figure to even hint at insubordination to military personnel should be considered treason. On the other hand, just imagine a platoon of Israeli soldiers standing at attention, looking like a collection of those three monkeys. While some cover their ears to hear no singing, others cover their eyes to see no half-naked women, a few more cover their eyes with one hand, their ears with the other, while the rest hold both hands over their mouths, so nobody will notice that they're laughing off their butts. I would like to know how the Rabbi suggests that these soldiers handle their weapons, live up to his expectations and win a war. As for his statement that men don't like to look at women, how does he explain the proliferation of strip clubs? Most of all, I do hope that mixed sexual relations are all right or this horrible business of procreation will come to a screeching halt. As for the military, I can see the headline already: “IDF totally wiped out by 2 of – insert lunatic of choice – divisions of scantily-dressed, booty-shaking women singing at the top of their lungs.” Maybe both sides would come to the conclusion that war actually sucks and that dancing together would be much more fun. Moving the whole show to Sharm el-Sheik or Eilat, depending on distance, the women could bring the falaffel and hummus, the guys could spring for the beer and a good time would be had by all. If the head honchos didn't like it, they could meet in a boxing ring and beat the hell out of each other to their hearts' content. This Rabbi's mother needed to do some serious ass-kicking when he was young. The fact that he was born so inelegantly of a female and that girl-babies are born buck-naked has to drive him crazy. The ultimate irony would be for God to turn out to be a gay female with a Sarah Brightman voice. Please don't anybody yell at me that I don't know anything of Judaism. As true as that may be, I do, however, recognize BS, when I see it
39. R. Eliyahu's comments
Shira   (07.08.09)
One can almost feel sorry for R. Eliyahu. He shames himself by making such comments about the supposed "dangers" of women. Such remarks are worthy of St. Augustine, who was a known misogynist. Judaism's attitude toward women, when it is not warped by people with their own agendas, is far healthier than what R. Eliyahu would lead people to believe.

43. #22 and 23 same old annon?
Lisa   (07.08.09)
my ignorance is minute- compared to yours, if you believe everything an 'ex-rebbe' tells you- I am trying to learn- but this is not the place - too much of everything- except knowledge?
44. 27 , god given land ? No Steve
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.08.09)
It were the 6000 mostly seculars , if not antireligious , who gave their blood for our country . Soldiers have to obey orders , that's so in every army . They had to do it , even with tears in their eyes . It were the settlers who disobeyed . And please leave the Torah at the Beth Knesseth , nothing to do with politics
45. Not you too Rabbi?
single Dad ,   Rehovot, Israel   (07.08.09)
Please tell me that Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu does not now have the same foot and mouth disease as Rabbi Ovadia Yosef? Namely speaking nonesense designed to provoke and alienate everyone simutlaneously
46. what about my ticket to Madonna
Avi ,   Rannana   (07.08.09)
Ummm thats a tough descision ! Sorry but i would rather hear Maddona singing like a virgin than listen to that old fool. "Like a virgin touched for the very first time...."
47. Charles #44: I do not dispute part of what you wrote
Steve   (07.08.09)
Of course you are right. Mostly secular Jews gave their lives for "our country." Some of the most courageous fighters, were non-religious Jews who fought in the Irgun. My late step father - a self-professed atheist and a humanitarian - captained a ship full of Jewish refugees to 'Palestine' after the war. It was named the S.S. Ben Hecht. He was imprisoned by the British in Acre. He was a fine man; a secular Jew. You do not need to convince me on that score. Where we disagree is on your assertion "Soldiers HAVE to obey (immoral) orders." I hope you are joking Charles. Tell me you are only joking. Have you ever heard of the "Nuremberg Defense?" "I was only following orders!" This was the defense of Nazi soldiers who followed immoral orders. You advocate following immoral orders willy nilly? No, I hope this is not what you advocate. I helped these "settlers" Charles. The only thing these "settlers" did wrong (most of them) is they did not resist. There was no resistance. It was decided at the top of the Gush Katif leadership. There was no resistance to Ariel Sharon's criminal policy; sadly. Then we had rabbis like Rabbi Modechai Eliyahu who counseled soldiers to obey immoral orders. "Jews do not expel Jews," from their homes and their property Charles. I agree with this bumper sticker. Don't you?
48. #43 Of course I don't believe what these men say.Do you be-

50. I read the Torah... I saw no such mitzva.
Golan ,   SL   (07.08.09)
As for Lisa, your comments are silly. Mother-Right is not only a Jewish tradition but exists in other cultures. And Judaism does not treat women as slaves or whores. On the contrary, certain practices are out of touch, but dressing like a whore and acting like a (sex) slave is not liberating. Neither is single motherhood or feminist dress codes proscribed by university femanazis.
51. well said !
(07.08.09)
52. #34 Ricardo- I understand completely
Lisa   (07.08.09)
I have no basic problem, Ricardo- I have no problem with the Torah, with God, with Rabbis, Ynet.... I know the story of creation- I wasn't born under a rock- " we complement each other" ? Yes? men superior to women? the problem is not that women are bad- thank you for that- the problem is that certain men are weak and instead of trying to overcome their weakness- they avoid temptation by putting restrictions on women and blaming them- old story..... it is called passing the buck. I wonder however, why Western men can manage and ¡holy men' in the Middle East cannot- have you ever looked at it this way? The women are not that ugly in the West- must be the men's fault then... With proper education and upbringing there would be no, or less of a problem in this respect. The more this excuse of 'easy arousal' is encouraged by the religious leaders, the less are people willing and capable of controlling their urges if you will....in the end it is always the women who are punished. They are told from an early age that they have nothing to say- they obey and follow- which of course makes the men look and feel very important and powerful. So, no it is not my problem- By the way, have you noticed that very few women have anything to say in TBs? They are too busy cooking and cleaning the house for the masters? The men are busy here perpetuating the myth of who is in charge......
53. #0 Roy- fro where?
Lisa   (07.08.09)
Roy, this is my final say: the rabbi is 100% correct? 'after the emergence of women... blah-- blah... blaaaa listen to me: I don't know where you live- and I do not care either, but: Israel is barely 60 years old, it was built on the sweat and tears of young people who worked their butts off day and night to build houses, kibbutzes, worked the land to make it fertile and grow, they worked together- the women and the men- equal work, equal responsibility. In every war women either joined the army or they stayed home kept businesses schools, hospitals going- they were the pillars of the country. How dare you blame anything on the women? If it had not been for the women- you men would not even have clean socks, let alone a country to defend. This dear annon #23 has nothing to do with knowing about being Jewish- I know a Neanderthal when I see one!
54. An old fool!!!
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (07.08.09)
Why do these senile old men think they have all the answers? More and more they show that they do not even have the questions. If these fools are prime teachers of Judaism, then Judaism is on it's way out.
55. I cover my ears when this man comes out with his drivel....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (07.08.09)
To do otherwise would violate the dumb-ass code.
56. Crackers!
Kerry L. Winn ,   Redlands USA   (07.08.09)
For a minute I thought I was reading a fanatical Muslim cleric's sermon. This guy is a menace to Israel, especially Israeli women.
57. Paul
Kerry L. Winn ,   Redlands USA   (07.08.09)
You might prefer the 7th century thinking of Middle-Eastern Muslims. Your rhetoric is exactly the same, just switch Islam to Judaism. And you live in the 21st century. What a throwback.
58. Roy
Kerry ,   Redlands USA   (07.08.09)
Another sexist bigot. What a sucker! Men instigated most the the world's violence, corruption and hate, not the disenfranchised women. Heck, even Adam blamed Eve for eating the apple from the tree of knowledge. He probably ate it first, then blamed Eve.
59. #50 Golan
Lisa   (07.08.09)
you deliberately chose to misread what I said. I know Judaism is not the only religion with a 'mother-right'- but we are talking about Judaism now. I also know that Judaism does not treat women as slaves- certain rabbis do..big difference. It is always the interpretation of any scripture that makes the difference. Sorry, if you find this silly- 'certain practices are out of touch'- right you are- this is not the point. Unfortunately certain religious leaders are adding even more 'out of touch' practices to the existing ones....still in the 21st cent.- THIS is what is questionable. Anybody is welcome to close their eyes and blindly follow a leader- but it is not a must, isn't it?
60. Steve , 47 . Be ashamed
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.08.09)
To compare orders to murder people to those to obey decisions made by a DEMOCRATIC governement . You followed the steps of your family , the extreme right people who also did'nt want to obey the general orders . So i understand your position , not mine at all . Regarding those 6000 . At least 1500 of them were Palmachnikim , certainly not those who shared your family's murder ideology . But this is not the place to discuss this . Maybe another time .
