61. Salvaging the peace process..
Nathan Rai ,   Bangalore   (07.12.09)
Nice to see this on ynetnews. No how about publicising this to the world ? Unless Israels politicians have a vested interest in not giving the world this whole picture which will surely unknot the peace process. Making this fact a part of any peace process discussion lead to a far quicker solution than one sided imbecile Yassin-stye rhetoric.speak.
62. Jewish Nakba
leib ,   madison wisconsin us   (07.13.09)
I agree with Aharoni's assertions about the importance of publicizing the removal of Jews from Arab lands but despite the views of his students I think that for most Arabs in the Middle East the Nakba was not the creation of Arab refugees. Instead it was the creation of Jewish state. The successful assertion of sovereignty by a dhimmi people is considered a violation of the cosmos. Apparently Aharoni's students have been influenced enough by Western views to overcome that idea but the Arab League and the Palestinian Arab leadership and the millions indoctrinated by them (Fatah and Hamas alike) will, I suspect, find Aharoni's students ignorant at best, traitorous at worst.
63. Jewish Akbar
Tobin ,   USA   (07.13.09)
Prof. Aharoni apparently is unaware that the expulsion of Jewish citizens from Arab lands is widely known and has been brought up again and again. But nobody is listening - the Arabs have been so inculcated with hatred and misinformation that they have closed minds. Their academics and intellectuals are very conversant with history and they know the truth. As for the Western academics their prejudice and anti-Semitism gets in the way of the truth and historical facts. That by the way also includes some Jewish left leaning quasi-intellectuals who are woefully ignorant of Jewish history and some who also hate themselves. Faoud sounds like a very reasonable fellow - a real thinker. More power to him.
64. why is Israel keeping quiet on this very important issue ?

66. #33 we contacted forgotten refugees to make a claim

68. #56 so pakistan should be given back to India ?
rahel ,   usa   (07.14.09)
and the Americas should give it back to the native North and South americans ? How about the Temple mount , should we take the dome of the rock off of it ?
69. Why no Jewish Nakba?
Mizrahi ,   London   (07.14.09)
Because : a) We Mizrahim are not as obsessed with tragedy compared with Ashkenazim b) The establishment often perpetuated discrimination of immigrants. Exhuming the issue will only result in those old social tensions resurfacing, which the state does not want to do. c) Note that someone who came from Europe would mostly define himself as Ashkenazi, whilst Mizrahim are Moroccan, Yemenite, Iraqi etc first. Not all Mizrahim have the same narrative, which explains why there are still a fair percentage of Moroccan Jews still in Morocco.
70. #69 your divide and conquer tactic is not going to work
Rachel ,   usa   (07.15.09)
Morocco is just about the only Arab/muslim country with a bigger jewish population .and ..That is only because of the king ..
