31. #20-AlKali/ Jews did NOT build Nuclear Technology
Kay. M. Athings ,   New York, USA   (08.14.09)
You’re so filled with hate, that you don’t know the Arabs/islam built civilisation, when you were squatting in shetls. Jews did contribute, but weren't the pioneers of nuclear material. It was European invention, with Catholics behind it, Jews contributed, but it wouldn't have been possible without the prior Islamic contributions to Maths, Physics and scient. The Manhattan Project responsible for the bomb had Jews in it, but it wasn’t a Jewish invention. Those who invented nuclear technology were not Jewish, and even that would not have been possible without the Arab contribution to Maths, Science, Physics, as they themselves admit. Enrico Fermi wasn’t Jewish, the man who invented nuclear Technology, wasn’t Jewish, Are you trying to distort history? Even Leo Szilard said he was influenced by HG Wells Who invented the nuclear bomb? http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_invented_the_nuclear_bomb Who invented the nuclear bomb? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_Rutherford -------------- Henri Becquerel was a Roman Catholic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henri_Becquerel Becquerel was born in Paris into a family which produced four generations of scientists, including Becquerel's own son Jean. He studied science at the École Polytechnique and engineering at the École des Ponts et Chaussées. In 1890 he married Louise Désirée Lorieux. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Curie Pierre Curie (15 May 1859 – 19 April 1906) was a French physicist, a pioneer in crystallography, magnetism, piezoelectricity and radioactivity, and Nobel laureate. In 1903 he received the Nobel Prize in Physics with his wife, Maria Skłodowska-Curie, and Henri Becquerel, "in recognition of the extraordinary services they have rendered by their joint researches on the radiation phenomena discovered by Professor Henri Becquerel."

...it is funny and refreshing when hatred and racism is counter-productive to the perpetrators!
33. No.20, ALKALAI - Islam built the western civilisation
Mohammed ,   Florida USA   (08.14.09)
Without the Islamic influence on Europe (we built the western civilasation) the Bomb would not be possible. Expand your knowledge you ignorant man, read this book "How Islam Created the Modern World," written by award-winning author MarkGraham. http://www.amazon.com/How-Islam-Created-Modern-World/dp/1590080432/sr=8-1/qid=1157638890/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-0126589-7657723?ie=UTF8&s=books Product Description In the Middle Ages, while Europe was mired in superstition and feudal chaos, Baghdad was the intellectual center of the world. It was there that an army of translators and scholars took the wisdom of the Greeks and combined it with their own cultural traditions to create a scientific, mathematical and philosophical golden age. Their accomplishments were staggering, including the development of modern medicine, chemistry, and algebra. Muslim scientists correctly calculated the circumference of the globe in the tenth century. Muslim musicians introduced the guitar and musical notation to the Europe. And Muslim philosophers invented the scientific method and paved the way for the Enlightenment. At the dawn of the Renaissance, Christian Europe was wearing Persian clothes, singing Arab songs, reading Spanish Muslim philosophy and eating off Mamluk Turkish brassware. This is the story of how Muslims taught Europe to live well and think clearly. It is the story of how Islam created the Modern World. About the Author Mark Graham is the Edgar award-winning author of ‘The Black Maria’, third in a series of historical novels which have been translated into several languages. He studied medieval history and religious studies at Connecticut College and has a master’s degree in English literature from Kutztown University. He lives in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania.

I more or less agree with you except for the contribution from Arabs to maths physics and science. This sentence is pure political correctness. The contribution of arabs to science is negligible. Maybe it was not the case thousand years ago, but even this I doubt. For instance, the great muslim mathematician Al Khawarizmi was from Uzbekistan and was not an arabd.
35. Okay, let me see if I have this right
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (08.14.09)
A bunch of countries that actively practice slavery and routinely behead people (women and children included) in public squares are worried about Israel's nuclear capacity. Oh, hell's bells; Israel's been a nuclear power since the early 1960s. They haven't used it. They can ... but they haven't. I think these Arab oil-soaked primitives need to shut the hell up.

Lisa Israel is permitted to have its nukes under international law Iran though is not. Iran signed the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty which forbids them to posses or develop nukes. Israel has not signed that treaty so it is not bound by the same laws. Forgetting the legal side of it if Iran & Iraq decided to develop nukes even if they were allowed to under international law Israel would not be interested in laws or whats fair. If Israel felt that these countries with nukes maybe a threat to Israels existence at some point in future then it will take the law into its own hands to eliminate the threat. The world isn't run on whats fair or just, if it was there wouldn't be third world countries which get exploited so other countries like the US can get richer. Its a very selfish world and every country looks after its own interests. Rich countries may make gestures by holding a conference and agreeing to make donations to help fight poverty but the end of the day its just a gesture but if fighting poverty means a country damaging its own economic interests then they will say what a shame they are poor but I intend to stay rich Same way Israel doesn't give a dam about whats fair with regard to the justifictaions behind its enemies getting weaponry all it cares about is keeping them weak at all cost.
38. # 37 nothing is forever
Ann   (08.14.09)
"Israel has not signed that treaty so it is not bound by the same laws" Any state can null or void the NPT then become permitted to have nukes under international law, just like Israel ?
39. #38 - You're absolutely right. Islam is not forever either!

the fact that you israelis dont even acknowledge the reason why they attacks you is THE REASON why israel is a ROGUE STATE! WITH NO DIRECTON You took there LAND, imagine your country being flooded by immigrants from different countries who "claim" to have lived there 3000 years ago!!! thats 3000 years ago! you take there houses, burn there villages...evict familes for livin in jewish owned homes before 67, but dont allow the arabs to move back to there houses? it doesnt matter if israel is a democracy or not, hamas won the free and fair elections...you think people in the ME like the fact there voices arent heard...the fact that EGYPTS mubarak is friends with ISRAEL, who much of the population hate ! if there were elections today in the ARAB world, israel would truely be gone... you get the aid from america so i dont see why your quality of life isnt better, next question... and the if WE the BRITISH were not intimidated by JEWISH terrorists who blow up innocent british people, there would have been NO BALFOUR DECLARATION, and no silly notion of a european JEWISH state in the middle of the ISLAMIC WORLD and you JEWS thought it wouldnt be a problem setting up a home in palestine...why did you go stay in JAPAN, your other proposed homeland... the EUROPEANS got rid of the burden of the JEWS , thats why most support israel today... its NOT because its a DEMOCRACY... and finally to #20 "we Jews invented the technology when your people were still marveling over the modern flush toilet." heres my point exactly...you think your some sort of "superior" people to the rest of us humans... isn't that the reason why you were so hated here back in EUROPE... peace
42. The Doc.#39/ Islam is forever, it’s Judaism that is dying
Khalil ,   Geneve   (08.14.09)
How funny, or maybe you’re jealous. No religion other than Islam has impacted humanity more, or blessed humanity more. We know what the future is, that is why the world is converting to Islam since the 1430 yrs ago. By comparison Judaism is dead, shame on you. As is Christianity, and all other religions. Your Rabbi Maimonides got his genius from Islam, he copied our codification, and made your faith more sophisticated. But still God put us on top. Mohammed is the most influential man in history.
43. #40 to Amir, Yafa, Israel
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.14.09)
And Israel was here before ANY Arab or Muslim - be a nice guest and behave, or, if you don't like our living room, go and live with one of our neighbors. After all, your grandfathers came from there anyway not too many years ago.

zionist forever   (08.14.09)
Amir Your right Haifa was here before Israel but it was also there before the arabs & islam. It was one of the ports in the jewish kingdom of Judea. Annother little geographical fact that might interest you to know is that YAFFO is in Israel. There is no place known as Palestine.
45. #13
Michael ,   USA   (08.14.09)
It's really quite simple. If the Arab world would simply accept Israel's right to exist and stop the endless call for it's destruction Israel would not need a nuclear deterrent.

Thousands of years ago jews ruled that area(even that is debatable - the Bible is a load of crap anyway). Then in the modern era they became terrorists and lied, murdered and stole the land back. Lovely. That's O.K . They will lose it again - and they will never be back. Ever. Just you watch, mouthpiece...

50. Lisa #19 ever bother to read?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.14.09)
Israel did not sign the NPT, nor did Pakistan or India either. Iran did. Yet on whom is all the focus? Iran received aid for signing, just as every other member that signed it. We did not. The Arabs have done everything in their power to block any Israel association with the EU and thank goodness for that. Now they think the EU has any say over us. Wrong yet again.

52. Rouge state?
Izzy ,   NYC   (08.14.09)
Who is the rogue state? The one that tried to colonize the whole world so the sun would never set on its empire. It's the one that the USA rescued in WWII. Israel has the oldest land deed in recorded history, its the Bible. I'm not talking about religion. I'm talking about historical evidence to a land clain written in Hebrew that is thousands of years old As for the A-Bomb: J. Robert Oppenheimer is remembered as "The Father of the Atomic Bomb". - Ethnicity Ashkenazi Jewish

''No religion other than Islam has impacted humanity more, or blessed humanity more. '' hahahahahahahahahahahaha A very good one!!!!! Your religion is a cheap copy of Judaism, shame on you. I study Islam and all what you say about Judaism is false. You know nothing about Judaism, stop talking about Maimonides, you are goof.
55. #54/ Smith- No, Judaism was copied from Akhenatum
Khalil ,   Geneve   (08.14.09)
Why should Islam want to copy Judaism, itself a copy of a Pharonic religion, Moses copied from Akhenatum, Do your maths fool, More Jews have left their faith, but Muslims rarely do, search google for facts, Oh let me help you. Moses and Monotheism is a book by Sigmund Freud. It was first published in 1939. --------- Akhenaten and Moses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akhenaten Akhenaten, was a Pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt, who died 1336 BC or 1334 BC. He is especially noted for attempting to compel the Egyptian population in the monotheistic worship of Aten, although there are doubts as to how successful he was at this. -------- The idea of Akhenaten as the pioneer of a monotheistic religion that later became Judaism has been considered by various scholars.[35][36][37][38][39][40] One of the first to mention this was Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, in his book Moses and Monotheism.[41] Freud argued that Moses had been an Atenist priest forced to leave Egypt with his followers after Akhenaten's death. Freud argued that Akhenaton was striving to promote monotheism, something that the biblical Moses was able to achieve.[35] Following his book, the concept entered popular consciousness and serious research.[42][43] Other scholars and mainstream Egyptologists point out that there are direct connections between early Judaism and other Semitic religious traditions.[44]
56. #54 Smith, - Indeed, Maimonides got his genius from Islam,
khalil ,   Geneve   (08.14.09)
http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/MFAArchive/1990_1999/1999/1/Great%20Rabbis%20of%20the%20Muslim%20Empire For over 500 years, the Jews of the Muslim Empire enjoyed stability, prosperity and religious autonomy. As opposed to the oppressive atmosphere in Northern Europe, the Jews lived, for the most part, in a tolerant civilization, one that valued excellence in the arts, the sciences and trade. In these fields the Jews were welcome participants. Because of the dialogue with Islam, the Jews became more aware of their philosophic and linguistic heritage. The new methods that developed in the vast Muslim Empire for the communication of knowledge and the codification of law were employed by the Rabbis in order to keep in contact with the ever-expanding Jewish Diaspora. Thus, they could preserve and sustain Talmudic Law, while creating new vistas of Jewish literature and thought which were instrumental in forming the structure of Judaism as it is today. Codification In the academies of Babylon, however, the Talmud the most expansive treasury of Jewish wisdom, knowledge, folklore and law remained the focus of study and discourse. For the Geonim throughout this period the Talmud served as the exclusive basis for decision-making in halacha. Yet, ironically, as the influence of the Babylonian academies spread, it became clear that the Talmud was simply too vast to transmit. To address this problem, the Geonim employed a technique newly developed in the Muslim world: codification. Of the innovations that the rabbinic world inherited from the Muslim empire, this probably had the greatest impact. Maimonides completed A-Siraj (The Beacon - clarification), his commentary on the Mishna, before he was 20. Written in Arabic, it is essentially a summary of the Talmudic understanding of the Mishna the primary code of halacha, codified in the Land of Israel in the third century. Maimonides felt that the study of his annotated Mishna, supplemented by the study of the Alfasi code, would lead to continuity of Jewish study. It was towards this same goal the continuity of Jewish study that Maimonides created his magnum opus the 14-volume Mishneh Torah (Restatement of the Torah). Like R. Saadiahs monographs, each topic is methodically codified in usable order, and the archaic Talmudic language and debate are avoided.
57. Can't we all get along?
IZZY ,   NYC   (08.14.09)
The real answer here is to stop pointing fingers at the past and each other and find a way to meet at common ground in the present.
58. Ann #38 not just Israel
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.14.09)
India and Pakistan both have not signed the NPT either. Both have nucs? The US, UK, France, Russia, and China have signed it yet have nucs. North Korea declared their revocation of the NPT. Yet all is concentrated on only one of three nations that didn't sign the NPT in the first place.
59. to 55 Khalil: the achievements of Islam
Buchner ,   Paris France   (08.14.09)
I doubt that a scholar like Maimonide learnt anything from Islam. I doubt that in general Islamic countries made any achievements except for peaks in extreme violence and fanatism. The islamic world hardly reads a book: see the official illeterate numbers from UNESCO: http://www.uis.unesco.org/ev_en.php?ID=5035_201&ID2=DO_TOPIC (especially the excel file) with numbers such as 25% Algeria, 35% in Morrocco, 40% in Yemen, "only" 15% in Iran and of course much more for women. The only exception is former soviet republics. This shows that communism was what better for mankind than Islam.
60. #13 - Yeah, I have a question Adam.
William ,   Israel   (08.14.09)
Why does Israel's neighbors feel they need to attack her anyway?? The whole purpose for an armed Israel is because of the Arabs being hell-bent on genocidal attacks for over 90 years. You can plainly see that once Jordan and Egypt made peace with Israel, they began to share everything and neither side really believes the other will attack. On the other hand, we've seen Arabs cynically make peace or agree to a cease-fire only to arm another splinter group to do its bidding. It's the same reason you can't find a gun in the UK. Guns are best left in the hands of responsible people for very specific situations. In Israel's case, if they had nukes, even when their existence was in question in 1973....using them was never an option. Compare that to Iran who stated more than once they would hold the Gulf area to its will, it will pull out of the NPT (while Israel is not a signatory) and pass the info to many other nations, they also support many global terrorist groups. It's a stated fact - Arab nations who are considering a nuke option of their own do so because of the Iranian threats, not because of Israel.
