31. #29 Palestinians killed in vain
observer   (08.20.09)
those naives don't acknowledge autopsy, so their organ bank account is almost null.
32.  He he he
Mike Van Harris ,   Antwerp Belgium   (08.20.09)
What this reporter wrote is true. and by the way, we have freedom of press in Europe.Do what you like and if you do not like it, big shit.
33. #28 It Wasn't A Muslim Mullah Caught Selling Body Parts ...
World Citizen ,   the world   (08.20.09)
last month in New Jersey. I seem to remember it was an esteemed member of the rabbinate there. If the Israel government cares about its reputation then maybe it should investigate these claims. Ask yourself one question before you scream about the injustice. Is it in the realm of possibility that rogue criminal elements inside the IDF would do such a thing? I say that it is possible. I say that elements inside the IDF have been caught on film doing many things that are immoral and illegal. That someone in the the IDF could be accused of doing something like this is not suprising to people in the Western civilized world. As much as you would like to ignore it, Israel has a very bad reputation for violating the human and civil rights of the indigenous Palestinian population in the occupied territories and citizens of neighboring countries like Lebanon. Pretend you don't know BUT we know. That is the reality of the situation, the facts on the ground as you Israelis call it.
34. Swedish reporter
freddy h ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (08.20.09)
Re 32: The shit is in Antwerp! What is true, and proven, is that Antwerp's Police (not the Germans), under direction of Antwerp's burgemeister, Delwaide, arrested Antwerp's Jews during WWll, and sent them to their death. None of them came back. Where is the shit? Shit on you Antwerpenaer.
35. Ariel Sharon already went down that route
Jake   (08.20.09)
He sued Time Magazine in an American court for libel concerning allegations against him in 1982 during the Sabra and Shatila massacres. Of course, the court found Time's article to be false and defamatory, and Time was forced to retract it. However, Sharon could not prove malicious intent on the part of Time, and so he lost the law suit. Imagine if Barak sues Aftonbladet in Sweden. The odds will be that much more stacked against him. The truth notwithstanding.
36. #33 A few matters that you forgot.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (08.20.09)
1. Yitzchak Levi Rosenbaum isn't a Rabbi - his scheme of connecting organ donors from Israel to Jewish patients willing to pay him a huge finder's fee (which does fit the definition of organ trade, and is illegal) was found as part of an investigation into money laundering through charity donations - and that's where Rabbis *were* arrested. 2. Priests, Imams, Rabbis, etc, have been arrested as criminals on several occasions. Not everyone is perfect or pure. 3. The case has no bearing whatsoever on the matter at hand - just like the article, you're trying to tie the actions of an individual into a collective - in short, you're projecting and generalizing on the group based on the individual. 4. The article had no mention of facts - only rumor, hearsay, conspiracy theories, and statistics on organ donations in Israel that have no bearing with reality. It is up to the person bringing up such allegations to back them with evidence - when such is lacking, publishing such an article is libel. And that, my not so good sir, is illegal. Perhaps the knee-jerk reaction isn't among Israelis, but rather in you, with your near-glee at some accusation that tries to show Israelis as evil?
37. To # 33
Jennie ,   NYC   (08.21.09)
It wasn't either, that the member of the Rabbinat was caught with illegal activity. He was accused, yes...And so what ? In every nation there are criminals...But you, the citizen of the world should know it best....You just love to single out Jews.. There aren't more nobel and humane soldiers, then the Israeli and US troops, who risk their lives to save the lives of the innocent enemy people during a war/battle....Who would you prefer to fall prisoner to: A muslim mulla or a Jewish Rabbi ?; An IDF soldier or a Jihaddist ? And please do not include yourself so fast into the ranks of the civilized,,,,, Jewish
38. #27, you are confusing the US with Europe
Danny   (08.21.09)
There is no first amendment that protects your right to talk nonsense. In Europe, there is a requirement to show you took reasonable steps to fact check the story and that it should have a basis in fact. It is almost certain that the story is a lie and that the reporter simply parroted what he was told uncritically. I know this is common in reportage on Israel and I personally look forward to many more such suits. See how much more accurate the news gets when there is a financial cost to lies? That said I think Israel could start closer to home, particularly thinking Ha'aretz and in particular Meron Rappoport and the cluster bombs lie.
39. #35, actually Sharon won
Danny   (08.21.09)
but was awarded token damages.
40. #32, yeah just ask the people who published the cartoons
Danny   (08.21.09)
Of course maybe this is the route Israel should be going down. Smashing up shops and threatening to kill anyone who publishes anything vaguely threatening. Works wonders for the Arabs..... PS Actually nowhere in Europe has enshrined freedom of press. You are confusing europe with the US.
41. 29 David
Rachel   (08.21.09)
Nice try,but as my mom used to say you can't reason with unreasonable people. The sad fact is some people that post on this newspaper are antisemites, and are gleeful like number 32 when blood libels against Jews like those printed in the Swedish newspaper.
42. Freedom of speech
Greta Elkayam ,   Tel Aviv,Israel   (08.21.09)
The accusation published by the newspapar Afondenblat that Israeli soldiers kill palestinians in order to trade with their vital organs is not freedom of speech,it's slander because such an accusation demands proof, and the said news paper has none. There should be a clear definition of what freedom of speech is,like freedom to critizice a Goverment,to express ideas, but false accusations have nothing to do with freedom of speech.I congratulate the Sweddish Ambassador for differentiating between freedom of speech, and slander.
43. Where is Barak's denial?
bbsnews ,   Charlotte, NC   (08.23.09)
I'm curious, all this talk about law suits but no denial by Barak, no denial from the IDF, and the Israel abductions of Palestinians regularly reported in the Palestinian press week after week continue.
44. Condemnation and freedom of speech.
Manelis Angelakis ,   Athens, Greece   (08.24.09)
I notice that the Swedes are (purposefully?) confusing the condemnation (speech?) of a report or an article, which is highly legitimate, with banning or in sanctioning the press in any other way. All that has been asked of the Swedish government is that it take a public position on the issue. Nobody has asked it to punish the press nor have swedish interests been attacked.
