Mike ,   Sweden   (08.24.09)
An official condemnation would be against the Swedish law, is that so hard to understand? Over here it is believed that the Israelic ministers understand this very well but push for a condemnation to please the israelic masses. Comments here certainly add fuel to that fire. It wasn´t the Swedish government that condemned the Mohamad caricatures, it was the federal police in fear of terrorist attacks (and clearly a misstake they don´t want to make twice). The Jewish reaction is sligthly more elegant than the muslim one, so there is no risk of jewish terrorist attacks on swedish targets. More-over the mohamed caricatures where published only to provoce. Your assymtery isn´t that interesting. Aftonbladet, in which the initial article was publicated is a left-wing paper and very much against the current right-wing government. It is not like they want to defend this paper but their hands are tied. Israelic ministers know this and push for a condemnent to get more votes the next election. Sad you can´t see through this.
62. You see # 10 and # 38
Not in Israel   (08.24.09)
I'd rather be a drek then a racist rabi ala humainee style that call non Jewish women "shiksas" like you are better then them And then we are surprised that the whole world hates us Go and learn something useful.
63. @ 60: Spot on!
Peter ,   Norway   (08.24.09)
Most of the talkbackers here show an amazing level of ignorance, bigotry and rasicm. I sincerely hope they are not representative of the Israeli public. Maybe demand the Israeli government to issue a condemnation of ynetnews?
64. Error: Anders Carlberg
Baruch Adania ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (08.24.09)
Error: Anders Carlberg is A FORMER chairman of the Jewish Community of Gothenburg.
65. Lars and Swedish racism
Trish ,   San Francisco USA   (08.24.09)
The amazing level of bigotry, ignorance and racism is expressed by the Swedish commenters here who seemingly cannot comprehend the difference between freedom of speech and libel, and have gone to absurd lengths to justify racist hate speech designed to incite against the Jewish minority in their own country. You just cannot bring yourselves to admit that your disgusting tabloid published something totally immoral which outrages not just Jews but all civilized people who find racism like this repugnant. Like most racists, you attempt justify your reprehensible views by claiming "freedom of speech." You shuold go study your Constitution--Chapter 7, Article 4 (11) and (14) which permits "freedom of the press" but does not permit persecution of a minority or libel or affront.
66. Have you read the article?
Mr ,   Sweden   (08.24.09)
Of course you haven't. I have. And it doesn't say israelian military steal organs from palestinian civilians. What it actually says is that israelian military makes obducies of palestinian civilians they kill. Several days later, when the mourning families get back the corpses, they fear the organs of their children have been stolen. The reporter thinks the families should be taken seriously and their accusations should be examined. But he doesn't say the accusations must necessarily be true. So what's so provocative with the article?
67. IKEA owned by the Dutch
Eme ,   Canada   (08.24.09)
IKEA is not owned by the Swedish is owned by the Netherlands.
68. If anything maybe Israel should be
Eme ,   Canada   (08.24.09)
looking into this. Obviously they will not investigate if you have noted their response to this article. So if they will not investigate I guess someone else should. Not so long ago the FBI picked up Levy Izhak Rosenbaum of Brooklyn, who is accused of conspiring to broker the sale of a human kidney for a transplant. According to the complaint, Rosenbaum said he had been brokering sale of kidneys for 10 years. So who is to say it isn't happening still. Of course if you don't investigate you will never find the truth will you? Who is to say that others like Rosenbaum are not today, operating the same type of scam in Israel?
69. Freedom of speach?
Lars O ,   Sweden   (08.25.09)
After reading the terms of use of this talkback I wonder if anyone has read it? Well since no one seems to care I will give an example how wrong it gets when you get upset. @ 30. Posner-to-Posner. Do you know what you wrote. "Europeans are racist to the bone, and you are a Quisling to enable them. Hate speech is never "free speech" in civilized countries. ". If the first line isn't a "hate speach" I don't know what is. I would also categorize it as "free speach". What does it then say about the country you live in? So please calm down and count to 10 (or maybe 10000) before posting. @60. Well written! I hope this guy never returns to Sweden, we don't want yet another racist here!
70. Criticizing Israel is not antisemitic
hellstream ,   Eskilstuna, Sweden   (08.25.09)
It's appaling that everytime someone writes anything thats negative on Israel someone always play the Anti-semitic card. Israel is built on a political standpoint called sionism. All jews are NOT sionist and ALL jews don't support Israels terrorist policies in the occupied territories. So if someone criticize Israel it means that you are against Israel policies and not necessary against all jews. I'm involved in two diskussion on a swedish forum. In one I'm defending jews against racial prejudice and in the other I defend swedish newspapers right to publish anything they want, whether Israel likes it or not. So being critical about Israel doesn't mean that you are anti-semitic. In that Lena Posner is right though if the article in question is based on the truth or not is another diskussion to which I don't have an answer.
71. Lars-understanding free speech
Sarah Posner ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.25.09)
Hate speech is generally defined as speech that attacks a person or group on the basis of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. Europeans are not a race, religion, gender or of a particular sexual orientation. Given Europe's history of racism at home and colonialism abroad, stating that Europeans are racists is not hate speech--it is a matter of public record. On the other hand, singling out Jews as the purveyors of abhorrent deeds which amount to body-snatching in the absence of any proof and based only on conjecture and rumor is libel. It is not "free speech" either. It is bigotry--not surprisingly, being peddled by European racists.

Daniel ,   London   (08.26.09)
Yeah, but Sweden of course does not have that history, partly because of her remoteness. Are you going to blame Sweden for being the only country to have never been occupied, to have remained independent and to have lived on the same land since time immemorial? Sweden racist? She takes in more refugees and gives more foreign aid than any other country as a percentage of GNI. Just like she did during WW2. For Hate Speech, you should read Lord Bhikhu Parekh's 2006 article 'Hate Speech: Is there a case for banning?' in public policy research. This cannot count as hate speech, although the mohammad cartoons could (seeing as the latter was no accusation but mere caricature whereas the first was an accusation, however poorly and distastefully formulated). What's more, people on this site have the audacity to speak of racism, liberally mixed in with threats of arabs taking over liberal Europe; 'you'll see'. I have never seen so many people openly racist and so poorly educated outside the USA. Hermetically seal the middle east. Nothing but trouble. Then the hysterical jews and muslims can fight it out. We'll make another Life of Brian here in the meantime.

If you see the Mohammed cartoons as "hate speech" when the editors who published them claimed their publication an exercise in free speech, but don't see a baseless blood libel designed to feed into Europe's endemic antisemitism as "hate speech," then you are either hopeless naive, or you appear to harbor a feeling that Muslims deserve protection from offensive printed matter but Jews don't.. I can't do anything about your naivete, but if you adhere to the double standard you seem to be espousing here, your position is racist.
74. Well said 60,69 och 70!
Mikael Wallgren ,   Spekeröd   (08.27.09)
It is terrible to se all the racism in this forum. It doesn´t matter where you are, always the ones who do not write their names that are the worst, for example "GZLives" and number 40. Pure anti-arabic racism. It is also BIG MISTAKE to talk about jewish demonstrations in Malmö. It was a pro-Israel demonstration and a pro-palestinian demonstration. Let´s leave religion and etnicity (? spelling) out of it. I guess there where more right wing christians in the pro-israel demonstration and more ateists than muslims in the pro- palestine demonstration... About Sweden and racism: There are a lot of racism in sweden, as in europe in a whole. To 99% this racism is pointed towards immigrants and the romani people. The only racism the european right wing cares about are the racism against jews, and the only reason for them to care is because the hate muslims. So, sorry real friends of Israel, you schouldn´t trust them... A few questions to them who says I am wrong: - Do you know any jew who hasn´t got a job because he is a jew? - Do you know any jew who hasn´t got an appartment because he is a jew? Change that to arab or romani, and you will find who are the real scapegoats. And about european racism and imperialism, Israel is a part of it! A western defence...

Mikael Wallgren ,   Spekeröd, Sweden   (08.27.09)
Well, of course there is a difference. I do not know if you speak swedish or at least have got a proper translation of it. The article is as others has pointed out- about that palestinians CLAIMS that IDF have done things. He referes to what the occupied and oppressed people are saying, thats pure journalism. He could of course had made an interwiev with someone from IDF, but that a minor offence. The "cultural pages" of swedish newspapers are some kind of editorial pages, people do not expect the same quality and unbias news there as in the rest of the paper. If we take a look at the mohammed pictures it was a clear provocation of a minority group and their religion. There where no "truthfinding" or journalism in it, just to point out and offend. I do not know if the jews have any holy items or pictures, but I am quite sure the IDF is not in the old testament?
