61. Not anti-semitic...
Jew from Sweden ,   Malmö, Sweden   (08.24.09)
Not once in my 26 years in this country have i been harassed for being a jew. Sweden is NOT anti-semitic at all. That's a stupid thing to say. Aftonbladet is a joke, every swede knows it and Israel shouldn't give a damn about what they say, do or write. They have absolutely NO credibility... However i do agree that Israel is just as childish about this as the muslims were about that harmless Muhammed picture.
62. Peter, Peter...
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (08.24.09)
Peter, please do not put words in my mouth which I never said. I never said the IDF should be beyond CRITICISM. Heck, even us Israelis criticize ourselves and our army all the time! What I said is that an ATTACK on the IDF, is an ATTACK on all of us Israelis. Now, there is a major difference between criticizing and attacking. Saying the IDF makes life harder for Palestinians by making them go through checkpoints, or even that it kills too many civilians in its operation (though not intentionally) - is criticism. Saying the IDF murders Palestinians in order to harvest their organs - is a malicious, horrific, ruthless and baseless attack. Kapish? (second attempt, ynet)
63. @34 - Good !
Klas ,   Sweden   (08.24.09)
Good position to take ! So then show that the ridiculous allegations are wrong ! That way the tabloid and the author will be in the corner of shame ! Do not try the "anit semite" wording - it will just makes things worse. From what I know people generally have more problems with immigrant muslims in sweden (because of numbers and porr politics), jews have never (in modern times) been a target. Sure IDF may be critized in the press now and then - but that is not the same as most swedes being anti-semites. Do not try to blame or make the Swedish government involved - they have nothing to do with this article - and as several other has written: they are not allowed to censor things like this ! Write another article, in the same or other tabloid, on how ridicolus the claims are instead and make your voice heard !! /K

Klas ,   Sweden   (08.24.09)
So meybe there is a lesson to be learned from this discussion ? Speaking in general, We (swedes) are not percieving some things the same way as you (Israelis) - very generally speaking of course. - We consider a country to be different from a people or a religion. - It seems like you consider the jews, Israel and the jewish religion to be much closer than just a group of people with different backgrounds and religion living somewher on earth- this is something we must learn. - We consider an article in a tabloid as nothing worth reading if it cannot back up its statements, in fact ludricus articels pops up all the time in these papers about both Swedish and international subjects. - You have been subjected to hatred and violence as a poeple for hundreds of years, thus are very sensitive to these types of allegations-regardless of the source. But you need to learn to question the article/author, and do not assume that all readers stand behind these views- trying to involve our goverment -because that is not the case, and the government has nothing to do with singe articles such as this! Even if a lot of people try to be carful, because of the history, there will always be one and another that is not as careful - then it is not a good idea to include all in an accusation because that is not the way to get people to stand on once side. - We consider the army of a country to be very very loosely connected to the common people. In fact we are not even allowed to use military for policing civilians etc in Sweden (because of an incident early in the 20th century). - You seem to consider (?) that IDF is Israel's backbone, and although they may do misstakes, they are there to protect you and the Isreali people are behind them 100% ? This is something that I do not think we at all percieve. If a newspapaer writes an article about how many palestinians got injured in an attack etc - it is critisism against the defence forces, or even just that local unit, not at alla considering the rest of Israel. But I get the feeling that that is not the way you percieve it, right ? I may have written some clumsy sentences above - but the intention is not to provoke anyone, and I have have written it generally so not all will agree of course. But the aim of this talkback is to get a better understanding of how people thinks, and thus to be able to see things from a different angle. /K

Lieberman is doing a great service to the Jewish people, refuting the Antisemitic claim:The Jews are very smart, therefore, dangerous.Tell a Palestinian somthing twice, after a third time,he will swear it is true.

Hello Christy Glad to have been of some assistance. However, concerning the Mohammed cartoons, there is a regrettable understanding which I have tried to point out: a Swedish minister of the then Social-Democrat, that is leftist, government, who was also the one involved in shutting down a web site for a right wing political group, sent conciliatory letters to the Jemen government in which she ... oh well, it was a disgrace, the letters were found, and this was one of the reasons she was made to resign. The then PM, Göran Persson, was on record as agreeing with the stance of the Danish PM Anders Fogh Rasmussen, but thought it would have been a better idea to call in the ambassadors of the protesting Moslem countries in order to explain the position of Denmark on free press (very similar to that of Sweden). As of now, the discussion has unfortunately turned from the implicit anti-semitism of the Aftonbladet articles to the stand-off between Israel and Sweden concerning the demand for a condemnation of the said articles - which means, in effect, that the debate is blurred, and the Aftonbladet can cash in on the public opinion ("who are they to tell us how to conduct our own constitution?"). Most unfortunate.

Hej Klas, Thank you for your insightful comment. I agree, it is important to note the differences between cultures and the way different people perceive things. Some of what you wrote to me about your people, I did not know. Still, I don't think you understood me completely. Again, I never said that our IDF is beyond criticism. Go ahead and criticize it all you want - as long as you have solid facts to back up your criticism, and as long as you maintain an impartial, balanced position. If you criticize our IDF this way, we Israelis really would not mind. After all, we criticize it too! Aftonbladet, however, did none of what I mentioned. What it did, as a vicious, incisive and ruthless attack on the IDF, with no proof whatsoever. In such case - even if this is a silly, idiotic tabloid - it is our duty to protest. And while some may be able to condone and pass such thing off easily, as you noted correctly - in our position, it is not the case.

Guest from India ,   Mumbai   (08.24.09)
Would it be possible for the democratic instituitions of Israel to find out the facts? In the hope of peace in the region and may you get a better government next time.
69. Give Adi Dvir an award
Eskil ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (08.24.09)
For being one of the most level headed people in the state of Israel. Really, some of you Israelis are as easy to stir as any suburban muslim in Malmo. Ever had a suspicion you were being manipulated ? Those right wingers with their sham news feeds have really got you by the nutsack.

Klas ,   Sweden   (08.24.09)
Shalom Ashdod :) Good that you could read my comment the way it was meant to. As i said -i fully understand that a lot of people may have been insulted by the article. I have now read the whole article myself (i normally boycott aftonbladet because of earlier experiences-they basically publish gossip and pseudo news) and i must say that I do think it is really bad with a lot of claims mixed with facts, which together seems to form other facts. But in fact one claim may not even be related to another. It is rubbish basically ! I fully understand if people in general gets insulted, and -Israelis in particular :( BUT. Do attack the article and/or the writer ! The claims are ludicrus indeed, and even if there may have been a incident of such kind, dragging the whole of IDF, and indeed trying to claim that the Israeli government would have something to do with it - well that is proposturus! And if someone is to make such claims for any nation, they better have real evidence (I fell that I am almost starting to get as angry as you now)! But do not expect any official judgement by our governemt, and do not get upset by that. As said before, they are not, and cannot be involved ! As pointed out earlier in a previous government an official tried to affect the media when they publiched a Mohammed caricature, and she was fired for that (partially because the opposition, which now rules, pointed out what she had done). Freedom of speach is taken very seriously here, but if a suspicion is that an article is some kind of libel, or a pure racist one, one can sue the tabloid (which from what i understand some people are thinking of doing!?). However the government must not be involved according to the swedish constitution ! And the question is also used as a domestic issue here in sweden between the left wing, and the right wing - so the left are just waiting for the goverment (we currently have a more liberal right wing government) to do a misstake. The same political games are apparently played in Israel as I understand it, so now, instead of being an issue between a clumsy writer and insulted Israelis, it is becoming a political and diplomatic matter between countries - hopefully more experienced officials are brought in to handle this matter better from now on than so far... And as I said i hope at least some of us may learn something about each other from these kinds of incidents... :) /K
71. Wrong. This is the straw that broke the camel's back
Jake   (08.25.09)
Israel ignores the daily plethora of slanderous articles in the media against it. However, this article, which accuses Israel of murdering Palestinians for their organs, and then harvesting them for the international illegal organ trade run by a network of rabbis outside Israel, is beyond the pale. Israel had to raise its voice about this one, before people start thinking it's ok to kill Jews again en masse. Because this is exactly where such slanders lead.
72. UN chief Ban Ki Moon said on March 28, 2008
Jake   (08.25.09)
after a furore in the Muslim world and a torrent of riots, threats, and boycotts by Muslims, "I condemn, in the strongest terms, the airing of Geert Wilders’ offensively anti-Islamic film. There is no justification for hate speech or incitement to violence. The right of free expression is not at stake here. I acknowledge the efforts of the Government of the Netherlands to stop the broadcast of this film, and appeal for calm to those understandably offended by it." Freedom must always be accompanied by social responsibility." I ask the author, why should the Jews and Israel expect anything less in the form of condemnation when the allegations involved are actual lies and slanders?
73. #61, Did the Jews and Israelis riot over this?
Jake   (08.25.09)
No, and all they got was a cold shoulder from the Swedish government. The Muslims rioted over the Mohammed picture and in Sweden the government colluded in the censorship of the cartoon. After the release of Geert Wilders' anti-Islamic movie 'Fitna', both the Dutch governments and the UN Sec. Gen. Ban Ki Moon issued condemnations.
74. Couldn't agree more
Moshe Lindberg ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (08.25.09)
As a jew and a Swede I can't begin to tell you how right you are. Especially given the fact that the only friends Israel has in Sweden can be found in the right-wing government she has now pissed off. We Swedish jews certainly didn't need this.
75. The left is so vain it ALWAYS underestimates its opponents
Nemesis   (08.25.09)
It seems to me that most Swedes and leftwingers are underestimating Bibi and Avigdor. Yes, the 'normal' way to react would have been to sue the paper, but no-one sees a reason for the Israeli government not doing so other than that they're knuckle-dragging right-wingers who don't know Swedish rules and culture, and are acting on lurid nationalist instincts. I beg to differ. They are actually not that stupid. They were told of the article, they knew of the anti-Israel initiatives Sweden is planning for their remaining four months of European presidency and they must have decided that the best defence is attack. Yes, Israel might be looking stupid or childish, but now the attacks on Israel that Sweden was planning have literally become a diplomatic minefield..
76. Aftonbladet
Martin ,   Sweden   (08.25.09)
I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this, but Aftonbladet is widely known in Sweden for being a sensationalist pile of crap. By reacting like this you're just giving them validity, when in fact it is nothing but a cheap tabloid that nobody takes seriously. Most people in Sweden also think the article was ridiculous, and would've been on Israel's side had the reactions from you not been EVEN MORE ridiculous.
77. Com'on
David Stenholm ,   GBG & Sweden   (08.25.09)
As a swede I can't help to wonder, whats it all about? Some crappy socialparty newspaper, known to be desparate about selling news like, Michael Jacksons nose fell of, publish a stupid story that my son of 1 year can't belive and two countries start yelling? Whats up? It's a tabloid??? They also write articles about ufo's... I'm sorry to say, it feels a little bit like the "muhammed pictures"... Some idiots burned down 3 Swedish official buildings because they didn't know the differences between Sweden and Denmark :-) It was a stupid article, probalbly written by an idiot and palestinianlover, but still, just an article... Get over it! We better of as friends. But feel free to boycott some hardware if you like, they don't sell anyway right know...
78. Give Muslim response: riot, burn down city, it will stop.
Hansen ,   Minnesota   (08.25.09)
Our problem is we always think we're negotiating at a board meeting with CEO's instead of dealing with pogromniks and terrorists. Mess up their towns, overturn cars like the Muslims do in France. Sweden doesn't care because Sweden is not afraid of us.
79. This journalist does not honour his name
Trumpeldor   (08.25.09)
by writing stupidities I suppose he ignores that his name represents the most holy place in our temple... Of course Lieberman is right to react to invented antisemitic swedish claims High time to counter them and sue them
80. More boycott trivia ...
Morgan ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (08.25.09)
BTW, Ikea is owned by a foundation in the Netherlands and the company pays taxes in the countries where they makt their profit. Ericsson does not produce cellphones any more. SonyEricsson does however, a company owned half by Ericsson and half by Sony. Most parts of all products mentioned are made outside of Sweden and generate jobs and incomes in other countries. But don't let that stand in the way of any boycott. BR
81. Boycott suggestion ...
Morgan ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (08.25.09)
If you're serious about hurting the Swedish economy you could make sure that we get some more Palestinian refugees sent this way. This migh however backfire and strengthen any existing anti-Israeli movements in Sweden which I'm sure neither of us want. BR
82. #75
KP   (08.27.09)
Are ye for real? That was the funniest shit I have read all day. Be warned! Slander like that might bring on a diplomatic crisis. The Swedish government might decide to cry in the world press and demand an official apology for that statement of yours. Personally I will be satisfied laughing my ass off.
83. Hmm...
Stina ,   Sweden   (08.27.09)
Yes, that is so true. Swedes are taught nothing but hate and ways to undermine anything israelic. Everyday we wake up and do our daily hating against israel before we group together to send evil thoughts to israel. Swedes also eat babies...
84. Interesting
Me ,   Sweden   (08.27.09)
If the accusations arn't true they should just prove it and then there'd be no more discussion. Why this weird circus? And to nr 51. people don't go around beating other people up because they dress diffrently. Diffrently then who anyway? There's no dress-code in sweden. It's anything goes, nobody cares... unless you're nakid... then you'd probably get looked at weird and sent for a check up or something something... ...Probably been given something to wear... maybe...
85. NEEDLESS TO SAY? FROM A JOURNALIST?
steve ,   tel aviv   (08.27.09)
Left unheeded, the "Holocaust" would have withered and passed silently away too, like the puff of an oven. This War on Lieberman (made in Israel and exported worldwide) is foolishly misguided and an insult to any democratic thinking Israeli, even those on the left.
86. actually he is right
Lisa   (09.01.09)
yes- he is actually right: it was a cheasy tabloid- a cheasy journalist- he got exactly what he wanted- money, recognition- or at least publicity... instead of getting mad, people should have made fun of him.. now the Iranian nuts are using this to stir up even more manure... maybe a few Mohammed cartoons would be timely?.
87. SHOAH WAS IN THESE VERY SAME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (09.05.09)
SHOAH WAS IN THESE VERY SAME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES ......... WHAT DID THEY REALLY DO TO ACTIVELY OR PASSIVELY HELP JEWS ? DID THE EUROPEAN COUNTRIES WRITE ARTICLES, DID THEY PROTEST AGAINST THE NAZI THREATS AND THE TERRIBLE TREATMENT OF JEWS ? AND HOW MANY OF THESE EUROPEAN COUNTRIES STOOD BY, EVEN IF THEY WERE OCCUPIED, AND ENJOYED THE NAZI PERCECUTION OF THEIR COUNTRIE'S JEWS. WE KNOW WHICH COUNTRIES TOOK THE MOST ANTI-JEWISH APPROACH AND COLLABERATED ACTIVELLY AND HAPPILY WITH THE NAZIS IN " CLEANSING " OF THEIR OWN JEWISH NEIGHBOURS. OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES PLAYED " LESSER " ROLES, BUT NONETHELESS THEY LOOKED THE OTHER WAY WHILE THEIR JEWISH NEIGHBOURS WERE BEING DECIMATED. ARE THESE THE SAME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES THAT ARE DEMANDING THAT ISRAEL SHOULD STOP BUILDING HOUSING . THESE EUROS SHOULD BE SO ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES, AND YET THEY STILL TELL ISRAEL NOT TO " BUILD". THEY HAVE NO SHAME AND THEY HAVE ATTEMPTED OR PRETENDED TO FORGET ALL THE EVIL COMMITTED AGAINST THE JEWS IN THEIR EURO COUNTRIES, AND YET, THEY STILL HAVE THE NERVE TO TELL ISRAEL NOT TO BUILD !! OUR ANSWER SHOULD BE TO BUILD, AND BUILD AND BUILD EVEN MORE !!
88. @#87
Klas ,   Sweden   (10.17.09)
You're not serious are you ? Sure one can hold a long time grudge for things, but people who lived 60 years ago are mostly dead. And apart from a puny minority, so are those thoughts. Yes we should remember the horrors, but thinking like you means total war in the world forever and ever since nothing can be forgived - and keep provoking people that did have very little to do with the evil 60 yeras ago is a good way forward, and a good way to create peace and stability for all people ?! /K
