He is a true statesman and his mind works just fine. I think few people could be as suitable as Peres for this job
5. He is long past retirement, he just needs to be
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.13.09)
important in his own mind.
6. Peres needs to rest
David   (09.13.09)
Retire, dear man, and sit somewhere quietly musing about your life. You have done enough damage already to be around any longer.
7. #1, #2 He is our only competent and respected statesman
Aharon   (09.13.09)
All our other politicians are an international laughingstock, there is nobody else fit to be President.
8. #5 Peres is our president not yours
Avi ,   Israel   (09.13.09)
I would suggest you concern your self with Mr Obama, Mr Peres is the president of Israel and is no concern of yours as you are not an Israeli citizen and as a jew you choose to live in LA so but our bunny.
9. Wishing Peres a complete fast recovery
J Q Publik ,   USA   (09.13.09)
10. Time for Peres to retire
Brod ,   USA   (09.13.09)
It is time for Peres to retire and rest. Israel should appoint Arens to be the new President.
11. Mr. Peres is in good hands at Sheba-Chaim with Dr. Ze'ev
Rivkah   (09.13.09)
Rotstein's staff who saved Mrs. Peres when she nearly died and have also kept my beloved friend Ariel Sharon alive. These people are heros of God (the doctors and the distinguished patients) and of Israel inspite of errors in judgment at times. Dr. Ze'ev Rotstein and his staff have never failed to give a message of encouragement from me to General Sharon believing as I do that his being alive is a protection for Israel. The ELS Torah codes say ha'Shem loved A(riel) Sharon. The ELS Torah codes say Shimon Peres is the strongest man in Israel. Stength in Gesenius' Hebrew Lexicon is defined as holding on and not giving up. Hold on, heroes of Israel. Your people need that protection.
12. 2: Moses was eighty when selected to rule and ruled forty
Rivkah   (09.13.09)
years after that. But to you, 86 is too young.
13. peres
sad ,   israel   (09.13.09)
the man is old and his days as a leader are over. it's time for him to disappear from political life. make space for the younger generation. even people around the world are saying the same things.
14. Be well our dearest and beloved president
(09.13.09)
15. where is Sharon?? whar is his condition now ???????
(09.13.09)
16. Great to have such a president!
Dorothea Killus ,   Germany   (09.13.09)
My admiration for a president who is so dedicated that he rather answers people's questions than thinks of his own needs! Israelis, you can be proud, and you'd better pray for your president than critisize him who might be a far greater example than many younger ones.
17. regardles for his pointless gibrish sometimes I want
ghostq   (09.13.09)
to wish this guy speedy recovery.
18. To the US people criticizing our president
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.13.09)
You can't compare the role our president has to this of yours . Our president has a more honorific role , does not dictate the State's politics .
19. To # 3 , as an Israeli , write his name correctly
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.13.09)
It's PERES
20. 15: Sharon is at Sheba-Chaim Medical Center near Tel Aviv,
Rivkah   (09.13.09)
too. His sons should let the public see him and tell the public about his condition more often than once a year on his birthday in February. But perhaps they think that is a protection for him since the ELS Torah codes predicted a physical attack on Sharon. There are security guards who screen visitors and a military guard who has an uzi if anyone transgresses the area with evil intentions. A few days ago, I felt the warmth of Sharon like so many people do when he prays, so that is an improvement since it had been a long time since his spiritual powers were at that level. Recovery is slow of course.
21. Gerontocracy
Vladimir ,   Jerusalem   (09.13.09)
A person of 86 would never be hired for any job anywhere, even the most simple and lacking any responsibility. But in Israel he can be the Head of the state. This fact speaks volume of the post he occupies and the country itself. The presidency should be completely abrogated. It is useless and costs too much for the taxpayer, more than all yeshivot taken together. By the way, in the former Soviet Union, the ruling Politburo consisted of people in their 70s. Only one of them - Pelshe - was above 80. Brezhner died at the age of 76, Kosygin still earlier. Nevetheless, the Politburo was mocked and despised by the Soviet citizens and abroad as Gerontocracy, authority of imbecile elders.
22. to Rivkah, # 12
K. ,   Israel   (09.13.09)
There is a big difference between Moshe-rabeinu and Peres: Moshe led the Jewish people to Eretz Israel, and Peres devoted his political career (at least at its final stage) to taking Eretz Israel from the Jewish possession.
23. 21 , so return to your gerontocracy instead
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.13.09)
of infesting us .
24. Rivka , shut up with your fantasies
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.13.09)
and stop your self recommending
25. #18 Charles
Jay3 ,   Israel   (09.13.09)
I agree that the Israel president is supposed to be purely ceremonial. BUt since taking the position, Peres has been overstepping this honour to push his bogus peace deals. No wonder Americans think he is in a position of power, when they see him acting like the PM telling the world what Israel wants. I wish him a speedy recovery....but i sincerely hope he retires! He has done enough damage! And i also agree that Rivkah needs to shut up.....she must be on some serious meds!
26. 21 Vladimir, Jerusalem: Wrong! Many US Senators, US Congres
Rivkah   (09.13.09)
smen, US Supreme Court Justices, physicians, lawyers, pharmacists, Walmart greeters, bar tenders and company and business and store owners are past 86 and were working at that age in the past. William O. Douglas, Carl Hayden, Richard Byrd are just a few to have such long careers in public service. Victor Krulak, Sr., a retired USMC General and former Vice President of Copley Press was still lecturing into his nineties. Many retired high ranking former US military people have done the same. Admiral Thomas Moorer, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was still warning the public on lecture tours all over the USA about the dangers of Red China to America. Believe me, the gerontocracy crowd are less likely to go to war than younger leaders because they know how terrible it is. You obviously have never visited a Veterans' Administration Hospital or you would have a clue on what those who are in their eighties are doing there: true, some are patients, but many are volunteers. Hospitals in America and most charities would shut down without volunteers. With the younger people having to have two incomes nowadays, the elderly are an army of volunteers in service to their countries.
27. Charles and Jay3: Your hatred of women posting on YNET is
Rivkah   (09.13.09)
shocking. You slander and libel people, particularly me, with impunity. There is a judge in heaven who is taking note of that. Read the book of Job in the Bible to find out how serious slander is to the Lord. God told Job that if Job did not pray for his friends who slandered him, God would not accept them. Job was a saint of the Lord as I am, so it is putting yourselves into my hands to slander and libel me since that can keep you out of heaven unless I pray for God to accept you inspite of your evil toward me. But sadly for you, I will not do that unless paid a settlement. I have to be paid to pray when people are as offensive as you two have been to me.
28. 25 Jay3
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.13.09)
Yes , our Presidents receives many people , talks politics , but it's not he who decides , it's Bibi and the ministers . Peres can give advice , but nothing more . The Americans think he is in position of power ? They are wrong . What damage has he done since he was elected president ?
29. 22 K, Israel: Errors in judgment are regrettable, but the
Rivkah   (09.13.09)
Lord has not forgotten His promises to Israel. No human errors can change God's plan for His people. Human errors may hinder God's plan, but cannot stop God from fulfilling His promises. The people who compromised the land God gave to the Jews paid a terrible price, at least most of them did. Prime Minister Rabin was murdered and Prime Minister Sharon lost his position due to illness and Prime Minister Netanyahu lost power for a decade. Others who gave up the land do not appear to have been judged, like Peres and Barak. But whether these people were or were not punished or if the setbacks were coincidence, God's plans cannot be stopped by mere humans.
30. #27 I love all women....even you!
JAy3 ,   Israel   (09.13.09)
But seriously........ You want me to pay you money to pray for me????? WHo are you? The Queen of Sheba? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thats very righteous of you!
