31. Wait for it. UNFIL accepts Suleiman's statement as fact.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (10.29.09)
No need to investigate. Israel should be looking at itself. I really cannot believe anyone other than a Arab would buy this, but I appear to be mistaken. To Lebanese, you are goverend by "tyrants" and only a backwater country allows itself to be goverened by people who say and do things they dont agree with. Your government is your responsibility. If its tyranical - that's your fault. Deal with it or expect us to, because we dont like Katushas landing in our country.
32. To 23# Bla bla and by the way we have a few tyrants ruling…
roy   (10.29.09)
This is exactly the point you don’t have a few tyrants all you have is tyrants. And its not only that, it’s the whole system that discriminates against minorities, women, anyone different. Your system is rotten to the core. And you talk about our denial…You need much more then just blind belief in arab ability. You have to change fundamentally, everything, from the bottom to the top. When that day comes you will loose your primitive believes in conspiracy theories and will be able to ha ha ha and lols as much as you want
33. #14 dialogue
Avinoam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (10.29.09)
1. I am an Israeli. 2. I don't hold you personally responsible for whatever actions your country takes. I hope you afford me the same courtesy. 3. I recognise that people on both sides act unreasonably and say stupid things. Regarding this case I find it ridiculous that Lebanon fires rockets at Israel and the natural assumption is some conspiracy theory about Israel firing rockets at itself to create justification for attacking Lebanon. There is already precedent of Hezbollah firing rockets at Israel, so the conspiracy theory is certainly less plausible than the simpler explanation. The simplest explanation is that the Lebanese government is at the mercy of Hezbollah and is trying to save face and avoid conflict with either Hezbollah or Israel. It is entirely understandable that the Lebanese government acts this way even if I think it shouldn't. The best way forward is to ask for assistance in removing Hezbollah's grip on the Lebanese government. I'm sure you are not happy about your government being held hostage by thugs. You are quite wrong in thinking that Israel is the bigger problem. Israel is a problem from Lebanon ONLY because of Hezbollah. Hezbollah adds other problems inside Lebanon that have nothing to do with Israel as well. It is thus more problematic in total. Ultimately it is the pride of the Lebanese government that is the obstacle to your stability.
34. Israel and its Terrocracy
Mike Van Harris ,   Antwerp Belgium   (10.29.09)
Only american fools will belive that israel is inocent from this.
35. 23 - we laugh at your president's idiocy, not your situation
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.29.09)
your situation is tragic, like watching a train wreck. but you do yourself no favors by not taking responsibility for your own problems and shortcomings. israel isn't to blame for everything, and you sound like complete fools when you say these things. it's no crime to embarrass yourselves in the world's eyes. i actually encourage you to go for it if that's what you really believe. it informs everyone more about yourself than anything else.

Lebanese ,   beirut, lebanon   (10.29.09)
i find your replies to me very odd and honestly.. childish. I'm no "MAN OF WAR".. i'm woman who drives a convertible while smoking a cigarette along the beautiful country roads in southern Lebanon. And i have learned more than "a lot" from the previous war in 2006. for the first time in decades, brave young men were able to stand up to the bully next door.. I remember being a child in 70's and 80's when Israeli troops were dragging people out of their homes and bombing the roofs over our heads.. For anyone who mistakes our internal problems with Hizballah (and i have more than one concern with their internal politics) as an indication to where we stand as FREE people when it comes to the arab-israeli conflict. I can't believe that any Israeli would even have the nerve to speak about freedom and rights (or lack of it) in the arab world, because it seems to me that all Israeli governments have kept their people on the tightest leash, both politically and intellectually. Be not deluded about what kind of game you are in.. bikinis on the beach, gay rights, and an "open-minded" society do in no way mean that you live in a "fair" and "free" society. As to you #25, may you never have to duck for cover from aircraft missiles..can't wish it even on you.. but if Israeli does foolishly decide to launch another war on lebanon, we won't be hiding, we are very proud of the men that would be defending us.. If there is any credit to give to Hizballah it will have to be that they will never shame away from something they did.. Believe me, if Hizballah had launched those rockets, they would have declared it already.. they are people of conviction if nothing else..
37. To Lebanese, beirut, lebanon
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (10.29.09)
I don't know how old you are, but not too many years ago, Lebanon was the Pearl of the Middle East, while li'l ol' Israel was a collection of struggling refugees. Have you looked around lately? How many Lebanese, Palis, or Arabs, for that matter, have won Nobel Prizes? You can't fake drive, ambition and intelligence. If your statement - - is correct and using your logic, maybe it's in Hizballah's best interest to do exactly that of which you suspect and accuse Israel. After all, if Hizballah couldn't keep the conflict going, they, just like Hamas, would become totally irrelevant. As for those poor, downtrodden, occupied Palis, in 1948 they had the same shot at nationhood as the Jews. Deluding themselves into believing that they could run the Jews into the ocean, they made their choice and not only have wasted, but will continue to waste billion and more billions for no reason other than to make their miserable lives look to be anything and everything, except what they are: the direct consequence of their foolish choice.
38. to Lebanese, Beirut Lebanon??
Marcelo ,   Frankfurt   (10.29.09)
since when you are a lebanese? and what is lebanon? isn't it the syrian province? Please, "lebanese", the sh* you eat everyday make you all blind....BTW why are u writing your anti-israel posts in a israel newspaper? don't you have newspapers in the syrian province? or is the free-day given by hizballah???? The humus is still israeli ;-D
39. Arab Islamist-Jihadist mentality
Brod ,   USA   (10.29.09)
is always blaming Israel for their own sins and self-inflicted wounds. Since babyhood, they have been brainwashed to hate Israel. They grow up and become zombies, blaming Israel for their own idiocy. This is why the Middle East conflict is complex because of Islam. As former Professor of Quranic Interpretations at Al Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt, Oma r Abdel Rahman, points out, "There is no surah called 'Peace.' Jihad and killing are the head of Islam. If you take them out, you cut off the head of Islam." (P.24, "Islam and Terrorism" [2002] by Mark A. Gabriel, PhD). Another Must Read book is "A God Who Hates" [2009] by Wafa Sultan.
40. When Goldstone is sent to the region he will consider this
Shaul Shoshani ,   Qiryat Shmona, Israe   (10.29.09)
as fact, evidence to be submitted at the court of law at the Hague. Yes, this is how cynical matters are when it comes to playing with the life of Jews.
41. "Lebanese" from Beirut, are you "Maral" from Bahrain?
Yuli ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.29.09)
42. to Lebanese - dont worry because the world is finally seeing
Caroline ,   TA   (10.29.09)
Israel for what it really is, just as you have
43. I actually find this reassuring
arab logic   (10.29.09)
As long as the Arabs stay this dumb, Israel is better off. Unfortunately the arab jews in Israel take the country down to the level of our neighbours. Let's hope we won't hit the bottom and be exactly like our neighbours. Then, our days will be numbered.
44. Dilusion and Propaganda dont help Lebanon, how sad
David ,   Boston, USA   (10.29.09)
Its too bad the Lebanese government chooses lies over truth, war, over peace cowardness over honor and righteousness.
45. I'm Lebanese and I'm ashamed
Veronica ,   Lebanon   (10.29.09)
for over 30 years this thing happen, and for over 30 years we live in misery for a fault not our own. my Israeli friends please forgive him, maybe he is under pressure from the hizzis and syria or (no comment, he is still my president)
46. you can keep the Humus
Lebanese ,   beirut, lebanon   (10.29.09)
If humus is that important for you then you are more than welcome to have it.. although i don't understand how you find it so tough to put together a recipe of your own.. not a big thing in the greater scheme of things. I am more of a "meat" person.. As to being an islamic jihadist.. well.. the whole lot of you seem to be very content with the voice of a stranger (GOD, ALLAH, JESUS) whatever you like to call IT, telling you what to do and whom to kill while promising you a piece of land.. as to me, I don't believe in him or any other "fictional voice".. the only voice i listen to is the voice of reason.. one voice, that you will never be able to hear over the bangs booms of your "ethical" IDF army. Making this issue personal as you are all doing is immature, if not ignorant.. I lived in New York for years, the jewish friends i made their are still the closest people to me, and a few fanatic comments will not change that fact. If my first comment started this mayhem of a dialogue, then i am sorry that i even thought that "news-paper-reading" "intellectuals" like yourselves were the audience. But don't worry.. when shit hits fan and you realize the mistakes that Israel made in the past 60 years (like the rest of the world is already doing), the "ignorant" "racist" arabs will yet again be the ones defending the jewish people and protect them from the rest of the world.. as we have done many times before.. we will not be the ones that kick you while you're down. It is only a matter of time till your warlords turn on you. You are your own worst enemies and it's sad that you don't see that yet.. (sad for you of course). By the way.. we love that you finally brought Libermann into the government.. it is always a pleasure to watch him voice out all the racism that lurks inside the Israeli regime.. it will be good for the world to know who the real fanatics are in the middle east.
47. just because
Barney ,   USA   (10.29.09)
lebanon has allowed their country to be hijacked by iranian terrorists bent on the destruction of Israel and choose to live with it doesn't mean that Israel has to live with it. Israel has no desire to fight or occupy lebanon as long as lebanon can control their turf and not be a base for enemies of Israel. if lebanon accepts and gives sanction to entities hostile to Israel then lebanon will have to live with Israeli overflights, occasional wars etc. Clean up your house and all will be cool. Your people suffer for others. Stand up for yourself and live a good life. I am sure the people of Israel wish you the best in that scenario. Think of the possibilities of Lebanon and Israel being good neighbors. Let the palestininans integrate into your society as Israel has done with Jews from all over the world. They might be able to contribute something given the chance.
48. To Mr. Hartley ,Atlanta
Lebanese ,   beirut, lebanon   (10.29.09)
Thank you for taking the time to reply in such a decent way. Most of us in the Arab world are very very aware of the problems we have, but that is another discussion. Only a fool would deny that a lot has to be achieved on many levels, starting with education, but do you think that it is fair to compare? i'll limit my remarks to Lebanon, where i live.. Israel is taking credit for how Israel turned out to be.. where would they be without the hundreds of billions of dollars that have been injected into their system by Europe and the US? ne would assume that the founding of a "democratic, modern" state such as israel (regardless of whether you approve of it or not), should have had a positive impact on the region, but unfortunately, with all the condescending, arrogant and brutal ways that Israel tried to impose itself into the region has left it with very few friends around.. the way i see it, in 20 years, the Israeli system will be twice as corrupt as any arab state. While the middle east is finally pulling through into modern age (lebanon is always a good example, Qatar, Emirates..), we see that Israel is in a downward spiral. I may or may not have a problem with Hizballah being an armed force on Lebanese soil.. but make no mistake that i will rule for them when they fire a rocket at an Israeli (or other) warcraft that's trying to shut down my electricity and water supply for the millionth time.. if the money Lebanon spent on rebuilding ALL what Israel has bombed since 1975 then, was spent on education and development then we would have been in a totally different place.. So I will rule for Hizballah not because they are what i look up.. but i'd rather have them keep our land safe.. while we try to get our shit together. Afterall if Israel has taught the middle east anything it is the fact that you have to be armed.. and very heavily armed to keep your head up.. and now that the Lebanese are showing some might (with the Hizballah rockets and arms), Israel is becoming the crybaby.. instead of turning things around for themselves and everyone else around them, they choose to keep going down the same road.. not pretty at all. A nobel Prize.. maybe not.. but drive, ambition and intelligence.. that we DO have.. and lebanon would not be where it is now in spite of everything that happened to us on the hands of Israel since 1976. Israel can't sit around and demand things from us.. (not even to stop rocket launches) until they pull out of our land.. completely, release all the prisoners and stay the hell out of our airspace.. till then they are no position to tell us what we can or can't do.. should or shouldn't do.. Thank you.

Lebanese ,   beirut, lebanon   (10.29.09)
we are very aware of they things are in Lebanon. Just because Israel and its affiliates and elsewhere keep saying that the Lebanse people are hand tied when it comes to our political system doesn't mean that it is the truth. Our people have suffered massively over the years.. but we are very clear as to why we are in this struggle. We don't feel a bit pressured to accept any terms we don't believe in. As to your comment "Let the palestininans integrate into your society".. you said it.. they are PALESTINIAN and they have the right to live in PALESTINE.. And how in the name of all that is holy can you say something like "if lebanon accepts and gives sanction to entities hostile to Israel"??? if that is the case then let's go.. why don't you place sanctions on anti-jewish parties in the US? why isn't it required of the israelis to place sanctions on anti-arab hostile entities inside the occupied territories?
50. This Suleiman is no Suleiman the Magnificent
Joe ,   Canada   (10.29.09)
The intellectual level of this Suleiman must not be very high to profer accusations against Israel as stupid as those blared by some Arab countries when they blamed Israel for the 9/11 crimes committed by Saudi extremists. He is not someone Lebanon can be proud of, at least that part of the country capable of independant, rational thinking.
51. The "Palestinians" Maral, did not think of themselves as
Yuli ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.29.09)
such until the late 1960s. They thought of themselves as "Arabs", be they Muslims or Christians or even Druze. Those who reside in Lebanon fled their homes and properties during the 1947-1949 conflict with the Jewish community of Israel which they initiated against the Jews of the land and into which later on several Arab countries and their armed forces entered. Those Arabs fled to another part of the Arab world; they didn't flee "Palestine", an entity that has never existed, never! So, when you make statements, it would be appropriate to exhibit both intellectual honesty and basic knowledge of the subject at hand. You appear to lack both.
52. to 49
Barney ,   USA   (10.29.09)
First, you must accept that Israel has had a Jewish presence for thousands of years and is the home of the Jews and a Jewish nation. Local Arabs can live peacefully and coexist if that is their choice but it wasn't. The Arab world could not accept a Jewish country. They have tried to destroy Israel many times and have failed and due to this the indigenous Arabs have suffered. Anti-Jewish parties in the US are prosecuted by the law if they commit a crime such as firing a rocket or bomb. The US Govt doesn't let that go unaswered against Jew, Hispanics, Asians, Arabs, or anyone. That argument is false. As to the idea that they are Palestinians and they should live in Palestine so we will isolate them in camps-this is a fallacy also. The land is Israel. Jews who came from Russia came because they were persecuted. They are Russians-Israelis don't say they are Russians let's put them in a refugee camp. They are allowed to become part of Israeli society. Same goes for Jews that immigrate from any land. Palestinians that are in Lebanon should be accorded the same opportunity. Why they are there is a multifold issue. They fled, were forced out, left with the hope of Israel being destroyed before they returned-whatever. The fact is now they are in Lebanon and instead of being integrated with opportunity are like a "pariah" in camps. You sound like a reasonable person. We are from two different backgrounds with two vastly different point of views but as with the Arabs and Israelis-if there were dialogue without hate and without the hardcore stance that Israel must go and Jews are evil and descendants of apes and pigs there would be progress and a better world for everyone.
53. to 48
Barney ,   USA   (10.29.09)
you want to talk about the billions injected into Israel? what about the billions given th the palestinians? they have absolutely nothing to show for it except suhat living a nice lifestyle in paris. Israel left gaza and greenhouse industry in place for them and what do they have? nothing. rathole-killing each other etc. so it is not the money - it is the mentality
54. Lebanese, beirut, lebanon & M. Hartley

55. to 48: what do you want? Palestinian terrorists attacked
from your country   (10.29.09)
Take responsibility for once and for all to your mess - by "your" I mean Lebanon, I mean Arab countries in geberal. There's no law and order, every group with a gun dictates what happens. Palestinians took over south Lebanon and made the lives of Israelis hell with their constant attacks. And you really don't know why Israel attacked Labanon?!
