31. The TRUE racists are the evil Jew haters
Yaniv ,   Israel   (11.20.09)
who call every single Jewish defense action "racist"
32. Curious that none of comments mentions the security guard
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (11.20.09)
This whole fracas was sparked when Gareb, taking revenge for being fired (reasons not given), revealed sensitive security protocols. Out of spite, he's put other people's lives at risk. It's not surprising that "Muslim investigator" was so quickly stopped. Just like a terrorist, he had an agenda, an ulterior motive, for being there. Such people try to "act normal", but they give themselves away to a trained eye.
33. LAND OF BLACK SLAVES AND
LAWRENCE RAP ARTSIST ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.20.09)
Apartheid. The Land of Black Slaves / Servants and Apartheid has the nerve to call Israeli security measures "Racist." The Pot calling the Kaffir Black .Not all muslims are Terrorists but nearly all Terrorists are muslims. I apologize for that rather unpalatable and politically incorrect fact.
34. south africa is a racist anti-semitic country
david ,   new york   (11.20.09)
35. #18 - Shlomo the Idiot
Eyal ,   USA   (11.20.09)
You really are a idiot. I flew El Al many times and what the hell do you mean by ankle exactly? I saw many movies on El Al and they do serve all kinds of foods. You really are as dumb as you sound and must be an Israeli who married an Arab, so you blame other Israelies in principle. El Al in my standards are the safest, maybe not as friendly as Qantas, but safer than Qantas.
36. Israel more racist then south africa?
Caroline ,   TA   (11.20.09)
yep its true but it isnt news anymore. the worst part is that quite a few israeli would consider this acceptable, except when it happens to them in other countries then they cry out but fail to see the hypocrisy. The world is seeing israel for what it is.
37. I visited South Africa
Ibrahim el-Awal ,   Michigan   (11.20.09)
South Africans not only discriminate white people and cause them to flee the country, but also murder and discriminate illegal immigrants from other African countries. In a country where the president was accused of rape of a woman with AIDS, while acquited on technicality, what can you expect? Many told me that the Apartheid white rule was so much better from what they have now. Anarchy. Go to Rose Park in Johannesburg and you find that all the houses there are fenced with barbed and electrical wires as well as private guards....No wonder that corupt South African government can be bought. Oh, add to it Desmond Tutu who is more interested in Palestinians than the extreme poverty at Soweto. Yes, he travels in South Africa in an armorred car....

Kosher airplane food is pretty bad whatever airline your traveling on so I think its a little unfair to blame ELAL for the food quality. As for security the whole idea is to make you feel uncomfortable because if you have a well rehearsed story under pressure your more likely to make a mistake. You might not like ELALS methods but they have made ELAL into the worlds safest airline. Assuming we managed to reach a deal with the palestinians that wouldn't mean an end to hijackings, there is always going to be somebody out there. Palestinians, Iran, Al Quaida or somebody else. I think if you were on a plane that was hijacked you would probably find yourself wishing security had been tighter.
39. Unless Gareb is a Hebrew Name I never heard of...It sounds
Alan ,   SA   (11.20.09)
to me like a Namibian Ethnic name. Something like a San( used to be called Bushmen) name . I cant be sure so I hope someone can help me IF I AM WRONG .
40. Unless his name is Julian Reb Ga ,it is a Namibian/Cape name
(11.20.09)
41. el al profiling
cress ,   cape town sa   (11.20.09)
In South Africa, adverts offering employment in all goverment and associated positions give preference to "Previously disadvantaged Persons" which means BLACK....and this is blatently stated in the adverts... Refugees from Malawi,Sudan,Zimbabwe and are being murdered in a zenophobic frenzi. Black on black racial tension is causing many deaths in the refugee community....as happened in Cape Town last week....So SA thinks it is not racial???;The talk shows on radio and newspapers are full of reports of racialism.. SA has an influencial muslim lobby which is begining to flex its muscles to the antisemitic level using legal means to do so

44. Racial profiling, and proud of it
Former El Al ,   Security officer   (11.20.09)
I'm a former security officer with El Al and Arkia airlines. I provided security checks for all passengers at airports and pre check-ins from mid 1999 until the end of 2001. Yes, we DID practice racial profiling, and I can say with utmost authority that I still stand 100% behind this policy. I believe other airlines would love to be allowed to check passengers based on their religion or ethnic background. However, they cannot do this, because it's considered too politically incorrect in their country and they are afraid to discriminate against Muslims. As it happens, all the people who have bombed planes or attempted to do so in the last four decades were either Muslims or their proxies. I was on duty on September 12, 2001, and while all the security personnel on other airlines around the world were running around like headless chickens, I can tell you what changed in our work policy that day - absolutely nothing. That's how much confidence we had in the system. As to complaints of people who have been treated badly at the airport - I am truly sorry for anyone who has been mistreated, humiliated, or their privacy violated (and I'm not being at all cynical). Several times I witnessed rude behaviour by El Al security officers towards Jews, Arabs and foreigners alike and I think it's totally uncalled for. When a security officer does not treat a passenger with dignity, this should not be tolerated. But as to the policies themselves - they are effective and they are what make people choose El Al again and again, even though it's not the cheapest or nicest airline. I was recently in England and in Heathrow they asked me to remove my belt and shoes and take out any liquids from my hand lugguage. I did was I was told, of course, but I really wanted to say to those security officers, "you know, it's not the bottle of water that bombs the plane. It's the person carrying it. THAT's what you really should be checking."
45. nothing short of being racist pigs!
Marco ,   Spain   (11.20.09)
46. to 24 and your personal attack on me.
Harriet the spy ,   Tel Aviv   (11.20.09)
I get your point on why Israeli airlines is the preferred target for Muslim targets. But it appears because I question anything like this, then you think I am obviously an Islamo Leftist fool and not a Jew. Who is spouting racist imbecillity now? You sound to be, from what you have been saying and how you speak a narrow minded angry cut and paster. My way or nothing. No room for other opinions?? But my talk back was actually a direct response to the article and my stories hooked up to previous known experiences with the airline. You don't believe me, give me your email. I'll ask my cousin who had the airport scenario to drop you a line. Seriously.. give me your email. Dont doubt these situations occur to Jews too!! my family travelled in and out of Israel so many times, these are the bad travel points relevant to DRAMATIC headlines such as these. Such angry rants like yours even when you dont know what happened to say it is a lie, is ridiculous. Or to say I am not Jewish, a load of nonsense. I quite confidently am. I am fluent in Hebrew, are you? I read the English version of this paper just because ... I can. Why do you?
47. #44Great post-Thanks for your past great work!

You probably dont know that you could have complained to the El Al ombusdman about the treatment your grandmother & cousin received from the security personal.
49. Remember Efraim Elrom?
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (11.20.09)
If you are old enought you will remember how Isreli Embassador Efraim Elrom was kidnapped and later his dead body left in a street corner in Turkey. But you must remember the terrorist attacks to the Neve Salom synagogue in Istanbul and the killing of the Jewish dentist Yasef Yahya. The sovereign Turkish authorities were not able to protect them. BTW: Here in NY the Turk Evi across the UN building has armed Turkish guards at the reception too. Do you recommend that we should send these Turkish guards back since they are a challenge to the US sovereignity?
50. To 13 - Deport all Turks...
Adrian ,   Raanana   (11.20.09)
...from Kurds land!
51. Gareb not Hebrew?
Miransky ,   al-Abama USA   (11.20.09)
Gareb--One of David's warriors (2 Sam. 23:38), an Ithrite. A hill near Jerusalem (Jer. 31:39), probably the hill of lepers, and consequently a place outside the boundary of the city.
52.  Harriet the spy. , Tel Aviv

Having travelled to South Africa several times recently, I would have to say that I agree with your link, but what does it have to do with the topic of discussion?
59. #45 2nd hand info?
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (11.21.09)
Ever flown El AL?
60. Too much media hype YNet - here's a reality check
Philippa Brad ,   Johannesburg   (11.25.09)
I have just listened to the parties involved interviewed live by Radio 702. The consensus reached by the parties involved, Israeli (Deputy Ambassador to SA) and the spokesperson for the South African Government are as follows:- 1. The El Al Security Guard was NOT deported. By mutual consent the SA Government together with the Israeli Government reached an agreement that this person would leave SA within a specified time frame. 2. The Israeli and SA Governments based on their history of co-operation and strong diplomatic ties are presently discussing how to best address what both parties view as a 'technical professional issue', and how best to resolve it to the satisfaction, safety and protection of all. 3. In light of past numerous terrorist attacks against El Al passangers, the SA Government recogonizes the right of the Israeli Government to protect its citizens and assets throughout the world, while at the same time respecting the rule of law while abroad. 3. Too much media hype Ynet - shame on you!!!!
