The hareidi protests are generally much bigger.

James ,   Herzeliya   (11.29.09)
You are an embecile
33. Civil war will significantly weaken us, Sagi,
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (11.29.09)
but the Charedim can be subdued and put in their proper place by democratic means. Many many Israelis, not only the secular, are fed up with the Charedim and I am overjoyed that finally, finally, there is a protest against them or, to put it another way, a demand for the rights of the non-Charedim. Finally, it gets down to vote-getting and proportional representation which makes a mockery of the democratic process.
34. "Sagi" are you not re-enforcing Paco's point?
BBSNews ,   Charlotte, NC   (11.29.09)
35. good, very good
ghostq   (11.29.09)
more secular and conservatives should join in the protest, those ultra orthodox jews makes every one sick.
36. to #32 no he is Not an embecile
ghostq   (11.29.09)
he fed up paying for people who preted to study bible all day while in reality they do nothing, don't serve the country only their community and make troubles to seculars like hurling stones at seculars who just want to make ends meat,
37. Our government are spineless Morongs
israel   (11.29.09)
who only think about $$$$$ and not what's good for our country.
38. Why oh why don't they get tuff with them?
Talula ,   Israel   (11.29.09)
Throw them into the IDF - make proper men out of them - they have too much time on their hands and that's why they are causing trouble every chance they get. Vile people - what vile disgusting people they are.
39. "Sagi", why do you seek war?
BBSNews ,   Charlotte, NC   (11.29.09)
Are you there? Are you going to lose your family and maybe your life if you are in today's Israel? Israel has never faced a greater existential threat than the illegal colonists. All of the entire world is in consensus that Israeli "settlements" are all illegal. This will never change, no matter how many efforts are made to elude the reality. A mature government of Israel would tell the people the truth, then evacuate the illegal squatters under the Rule of Law, and case closed. Then the state of Israel would finally, be at peace.
40. #10 and #31, HaHaHa!
Reuven ,   Jerusalem, ISRAEL   (11.29.09)
I was there, and if anything, the estimates of 2000 protesters were too low. The crowd filled up the entire width of King George Street from Kikar Pariz to the top of Ben Yehuda.
41. to #36 wrong no document stated that
ghostq   (11.29.09)
the setelments r ilegal, and all the talks r to freez and prevent new stelments, but the one that exist more then 31 years will still remain, some trun to cities by now, and they got nothing to do with palis more to do with Jorden, and that the truth, some of them were built by left wingers, also nice fact, and there will be no peace cause to trush arab nation witch don't fill their end of the bargins, is pointless, look at the peace with Egypt, cold very cold with Israel didn't got nothing in return, really nothing. and that my friend is the truth.

to fly a kite is not so easy as you think ..you need a light one a good hand and you need gentle wind .. so the same to solve any problem it is not by civile war it is not to blow out vigerously or to be so strict or by many many hands ...
43. to 22
hala ,   jerusalem   (11.29.09)
in islam .evry one to pray for himselfe only in friday they make it in groups but when there is a big disastor for all people they pray as groups as in the time of dryness without rain .. i think haridi problem is not a big disastor but changing rules as evry one must obey it and want to pray to himselfe .evry one has its relation with the god alone ...god the only one to know about our hearts but we must obey govenor rule in the same rule

There has never been a "democratic process" in Israel. Ben Gurion, after being "elected" was a dictator, albeit a peaceful one and I might add a very useful and positive one, but nevertheless a dictator. It was common knowlege that no one in the cabinet dared to defy him. True democracy, in the spirit of UK, USA or Switzerland will never arrive in Israel until legislation is brought in to divide State and religion and a written Constituition is adopted and approved by National referendum. Ghandi got what he wanted without violence and without trampling upon the rights of others.Likewise Dr. King. Mosely got what he deserved. The Palestinians have finally arrived at the conclusion, after 100 years, that violence is not the way. Violence is a non starter. As far as I am concerned these Haredim are acting exactly like Mosely and I hope that their fate is similar. If our country and our Government are unable to solve this problem by means of discussion and persuasion then I advocate a policy likened to that of Old King Harry and his daughter. I say likened on purpose as I do not propose that a reign of terror be mounted upon these folks, but certainly a strong and decisive hand using all the resources of the law, both disciplinary and judicairy. Our present policy of accepting the Haredi violence as a "natural event" will have a devastating effect on our society. Accepting this will inevitably lead to other groups with self interests to act in the same fashion. Anarchy is in the offing.

Sagi   (11.29.09)
Apt words. I agree.
46. #38 - don't sent them to the IDF
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (11.29.09)
... there have been so many cases where Haredim that did us the great favor of going into the army made more trouble than they were worth. Demanding that the coin operated candy machines be locked on Saturday. Getting women soldiers thrown out of courses for they could take them. Etc. Just take away any extra financial benefits they get that anyone else isn't receiving.
47. to #43 sound nice but you say in islam
ghostq   (11.29.09)
that is a very secular atitud for someone who doesn't need representation before god and I agree with that but you said in Islam meaning you define yourself as religious, kinda contradiction cause other wise worship places wouldn't be needed for all religions.
48. to #22 there is choice, always there is choice
ghostq   (11.29.09)
and the fact is they can pray and work or pray and serve the IDF, that is a choice, and they chose to be burden on society, they live on money contribution when people don't give to them they demand the money. no rights without any duty and they never have duties.

Ah ! How this name evokes memories of civil war and outright inhumanity. Richmond Virginia and the final showdown at Gettysberg. What did the Great Man say, "I would have gone to war to abolish slavery, I would have gone to war to save The Union, I would certainly have gone to war for both". When one side persists and will not give in to reason then there is no choice. Pray, what is the difference between "settling" California, Louisiana and Florida and "settling" Judea and Samaria. Please do not give me "purchase" as an answer, I know the facts of history, both yours and ours. If an International court of investigation and arbitration was set up comprising of historians, archeaologists and judicial experts and the facts were presented and mulled over, from 4000 years ago and up to 1967 then there would be only one possible conclusion. It would be in our favor. I say this without prejudice and without negating the rights of, and the obligation to, the Palestinians. Have a good day Sir.
50. 13,17&38 Rhetorical Questions For You
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (11.29.09)
First, I appreciate that, unlike ynet's headline (for which the editors should apologize to the Orthodox), none of you attempted to smear the Orthodox with the deeds of the Ultra-Orthodox / Khareidim. I'm caught in the middle. I'm for peaceful protests against desecrating Shabbat while also against a host of Ultra-Orthodox / Khareidim excesses. I'd like to pose some rhetorical questions for you to consider, however: Don't the Orthodox and Seculars far outnumber the Ultra-Orthodox / Khareidim? Why do the secular political leaders, who are ALWAYS in power, ALWAYS prop up the Ultra-Orthodox / Khareidim against the far more numerous and moderate Orthodox? What do you suppose is their agenda? And why do secular lemmings ALWAYS mindlessly fall for it? Viva ,Viva,Viva to a modern and enlightened Israel.Lets be a true democracy once and for all.
54. paqid # 50 Sorry Paqid
Sagi   (11.29.09)
I have no logical answer for the illogical and irresponsible deeds of politicians. Politicians are a corrupt ilk of folks, not necessarily in the sphere of embezzling funds or misusing them, but in their general behaviour and manipulative machinations. This is the reason that we have no dedicated, genuine, honest and intelligent people in our political system, people of integrity. People who say what they mean and mean what they say. Democracy has a few basic tenets, not one of them is upheld in our country, even the ballot box is corrupted in the Tammany Hall fashion, it matters not who votes, it matters only who counts.
55. to #51 violent ultra orthodox on saturday
ghostq   (11.29.09)
is a violation in itself, use violence in god resting day, and practic rituals that don't exist in the bible is also violation. and stealing money is also violation, and the list goes on.
56. 46
Talula ,   Israel   (11.29.09)
Well, that's exactly the thing!! Throw them into the IDF - where candy machines DO work on Shabbat and female soldiers are NOT thrown out of courses as they are an integral part of the IDF. That's what the secular protest is all about. They need to understand this is how it's done. Any Haredi insubordination will result in them cleaning the bathroom floors ON SHABBAT WITH THEIR TOOTHBRUSH! It's BECAUSE the IDF pussy-foot around them, as do the police, that they get away with bullying and coercion – it’s simply out of control now. I’m not completely without heart though – they need to set up a place where Haredi soldiers can go on Saturday where they won’t see candy machines and other ‘Shabbat violations’ – they need to understand that most of us don’t comply with the God squad and above all, they need to fully accept it. The only way they’ll do that is by living on base on Shabbat and seeing that the earth won’t open and swallow anyone up because a soldier put 5 shekels in a candy machine on Shabbat – or female soldiers on courses with men is simply a natural and NORMAL occurrence! If they don’t serve in the IDF – their families should be stripped of all State benefits. Bastard freeloaders – it’s time they start giving and stop taking What’s so hard to implement here?
57. # 52 BENJAMIN !!!!!!!!!!!
Sagi   (11.29.09)
You promised not to write in caps. Einzatzgruppen Benjamin ? Who,them or us ? We are peaceful, they are violent.
58. 50 Who ARE you exactly?
Talula ,   Israel   (11.29.09)
Who are you to protest that I don't keep Shabbat? Who are YOU to tell me how I should live my life? What are you some self-appointed divine messenger from God? Well, here's a reality check for you Pal - you are not. You can protest loudly/silently – I couldn’t give a damn – but you will NEVER have the power to tell anyone how they should live their lives? You’re just a Jerk, that’s what you are. ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME!
