Had there been, what transpired would have been declared as illegal.

An incredibly important principle has been adopted by the family of nations, "acquisition of territory by force is inadmissible".
Israel became a state in 1948 and not before.
You may lament that Israel didn't manage to get created in the empire building days, sorry about your luck.
The reason the UN SecGen maintains that all colonies are illegal is because that is the fact, and the law.

Colonies illegal ? since when ? UN resolution 242 stipulated that we should leave occupied territories . We did it . The Sinai was returned to Egypt , we left Gaza , Jericho , Ramallah and so on . Most of the occuipied territories were abandoned by us . We had'nt to leave ALL of them .
