Eyal ,   USA   (02.24.10)
Where are you Mr. Goldstone, you traitor of a human being.
2. Good point, Eitan, but....
Jack ,   LA, USA   (02.24.10)
Where were you when Israeli academics, left wing politicians and other jew-hating trash start yelling and screaming insults against IDF and the state of Israel?
3. silly
pete ,   it   (02.24.10)
the events in Afghanistan are done in the full view of the worlds press. they are receiving wall to wall coverage . israel totally denied access of journalists to gaza. instead of an investigation it launched an all out attack to the point of hideous insults for anybody who criticized israel. its continued actions including the outrageous use of passports in dubai does nothing more than bury it deeper into the hole it has dug fro itself
4. Cuz they don't have the Palestinian propaganda machine
Brian Cohen ,   Peoples Frnt ofJudea   (02.24.10)
Nobody cares about Afghans because they aren't Palestinians. There's nothing trendy or cool about supporting the Afghan cause, especially since forcing the NATO allies to pull out means that Afghan women and girls would again become slaves to the Taliban. Poor Afghans. They don' t have the deep pockets from many years of getting billions of dollars in aid money. Nor do they have the funds to hire high-priced marketing agencies like the Pals do in order to keep themselves on page 1 and keep the aid money flowing in. Poor Afghans. Their fellow Muslims really don't give a damn about them. Especially the Palestinians.
5. hypocrisy
mottaki   (02.24.10)
haams and hezbollah cause deaths of innocent arab families. World cares about gazans because of moslem politics in europe and residual hatred of jews. Israel is another story. World uncertain as israelis who are terrific military fighters-fear and loathing. So EU go to hell. drop dead. Israel will survive.
6. BBSNEWS, Where are you?
Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (02.24.10)
We are waiting for your answer to this article.
7. You are wrong
Palestine   (02.24.10)
While your initial point of view is valid on the surface, it loses it momentum the moment you take a deeper analysis. First, The Palestinians in Gaza and WB, are restricted from the basic right of mobility, something that does not hold true in Afghanistan, making Palestinians suffering worst, but not by much from the afghan people. Second, the Palestinians in Gaza and the WB are under direct occupation, and everything they import or export has to receive Israeli blessing first. The NATO forces in Afghanistan are not an occupation force, per say, they are there to eradicate the filth called Taliban, and hunt down and perhaps kill Satan's second man, Osama bin laden (my he burn in hell for all eternity). And even if we argue that they may indeed be an occupation force, then they are so on a specific time table, and do not intend to remain their indefinitely. Third, the Palestinians, suffer from the illegal settlement, and harassment by some settlers, which does not hold true for Afghanistan. Forth, the gist of the Goldstone report, dealt with the disproportionate use of force by the IDF, against a paramilitary organization located in a densely populated area (actually Gaza is one of the most densely populated areas in the world). It also dealt with the tactics employed by the IDF during operation Cast Lead. When you compare this to Afghanistan, it also does not hold true, because A) casualties did not go over 1000 in a single operation, B) NATO forces inform civilians before hand to evacuate the targeted areas. (with regards to this particular point, the IDF did indeed warn civilians to evacuate the area of operations, but unfortunately it did not allow the civilians to leave once they packed up and decided to leave, in fact, the IDF soldiers open fire on some of them, killing some and injuring other **based on testimonies by IDF soldiers** This ends my counterargument, but i would like to add a personal note. After reading your article, i sensed that you looked at this issue from a personal level, that the Goldstone report was targeting Israeli just because of their religion. It is not so, with regards to Afghanistan, i do admit that since most of the major powers have troops there, some biased coverage is bound to happen, but for honesty's sake, answer this question, did anything equivalent to operation Cast lead ever happen during the NATO operations in Afghanistan, to warrant a UN inquiry, and a "Goldstone" Report ? To the best of my Knowledge, nothing like that ever happened. Thank you for sharing your opinion with us

This posting is a true ringing of the bell for all the self-righteous to drop their tools, and hustle up to the kitchen to feed. The clarion call of YNET summons thee, BBS. Where art thou?
11. Double edged sword.
Brad ,   USA   (02.24.10)
Regarding the Goldstone report, this article has a good point. However, regarding "innocent civilians" in Afghanistan, it becomes a bad point. This is war. The enemy hides in populated areas. Therefore, civilian casualties are assured. Besides, muslims have proven over and over that they don't care about our civilian casualties. Further more, muslims believe there is no such thing as an innocent non-muslim. Why should we treat them any different?
12. but you are wrong...
tom ,   toronto, canada   (02.24.10)
the goldstone report was perverted even before it was begun - the terms of reference were worded carefully and prejudicially, not to determine wrongdoing in the war in gaza, but to investigate israeli warcrimes committed in gaza. actions by hamas inside gaza, and their attacks within israel, were both outside its scope. there was no intention of fairness or even comprehensive investigation, but merely to provide hamas with a propaganda outlet, complete with the united nations' imprimatur. and judge goldstone knowingly agreed to those terms, and put his name to the resulting travesty of a report. i hope the rewards were worth it for him.
13. Hey Pete -- Keep up with the news:
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (02.24.10)
Didn't you read that according to the Dubai news, two of the "gang" members escaped to Iran? Does that really sound like a Mossad operation to you? When did Mossad ever ustilize so many personnel in one operation? And do you recall any time that the Mossad would have been so clumsy? I think that all fairminded (unbiased) people would be questioning any Israeli involvement in the al--Mouhbah assassination.
14. :: Jason - #6
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (02.24.10)
Why on earth do you think BBSNews or anyone else needs to respond to such a short-sighted and fallacious article? “a tiny question, a minor one, something wholly insignificant: Where are you, Goldstone?” What a stupid question! Obviously Goldstone has not been tasked with documenting the war crimes in Afghanistan. Haber would also seem to forget the huge rallies and protests all over the world condemning the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; he also seems to forget that reporters can freely cover these wars unlike the media restrictions and censorship that Israel imposes on coverage of Gaza. It could be argued that Haber is comparing apples and oranges so lets pick a closer example: Fallujah. Remember the massacre in Fallujah? It was more akin to the attack on Gaza (small encircled enclave which was bombed to bits). Remember the public outrage? Remember the wall to wall coverage the media gave this story? Remember the condemnation about the US using white phosphorus and the approx 800 civilians that were killed in the attack? I remember but apparently Haber has forgotten, have you forgotten Jason? Perhaps you can remind me if any Israeli public or gov member spoke out about the Fallujah massacre? If Goldstone was tasked with documenting the US war crimes in Fallujah he’d do just as good job as he did documenting the war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza.

That is the reason.
18. Attention: "Palestine"
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (02.24.10)
What you fail to mention in your post is the well-known fact that Hamas launched over 9,500 missiles and mortars into Israel's civilian centres between 2000-2008 killing thirty-seven citizens plus injuring scores more plus considerable property damage while leaving many of these targets, especially children, with ensuing and ongoing cases of PTSD. No true Israeli is pleased about the innocents in Gaza who were caught in the crossfire. This remains one of the tragedies of war, all wars. But you (Gazans) must take responsibility for this because it was caused by the continual assaults into Israel by Hamas operatives (and associates) and, unfortunately, your people voted them into power. I am fully aware of how limited were your choices but, once again, blaming Israel means not taking responsibility. And let's be clear, the friction between Israel and the would-be state of Palestine causes terrible suffering on both sides.
19. Apples and oranges
Smith ,   TA, Israel   (02.24.10)
The reason for the difference is very clear. Goldstone alledges that Israel and Hama perpetrated a deliberate campaign to violate human rights. That Israel's goal was to inflict collective punishment on the Gazans and attack the civilian population itself. He cites statements from Olmert, Barak, Livni and even Ronsky who said that it is a mitzvah to be merciless on the enemy's women and children. Others in government talked about smashing Gaza or sending it to the stone age. Hamas' rhetoric was no less gruesome and threatening. There is no such fire and brime rhetoric from the West. General Petreus does not talk about being merciless against the Afghan's and VP Biden doesn't talk about destroying Afghanistan completely. This rhetoric is absent. Hence there is no suspicion that NATO has embarked on a deliberate campaign of collective punishment against the civlian population of Helmand and other provinces.
20. #7 - interesting points you make
JPS ,   Efrat   (02.24.10)
Talkbacker number 7 shows that there are indeed Palestinians we can talk to. While I obviously disagree with several of his points, he makes some valid statements about the differences between the problems here and those in Afghanistan (which are much worse, in my opinion). The problems here are solvable. Goldstone based much of his report on unconfirmed reports, which on the Palestinian side have a bad history of being unreliable. On the other hand, the UN didn't have to pay millions of dollars for the report, which any high school student could have concluded: both sides were guilty of war crimes, but the two sides are obligated to sit down and resolve their differences. That would have saved lots of time and money that could have been spent on resolving the conflict. I put it to Palestinian #7 that rather than wish for Bin Laden's death, he should wish that Hamas would change its stripes and adopt peace as a strategic policy. The sad truth with Gaza is that the government there rejects peace and embraces war. Cast Lead was a direct result of the Hamas policy and nothing less.
21. no goldstone in Afghanistan
(02.25.10)
Goldstone received most of his anti-Israel "evidence" from Israeli Jews. No American would ever testify, the Rosenberg story made sure of that.
22. Our own worst enemy
Baruch ,   Marin County, CA   (02.25.10)
Obviously, self-criticism is a human behavior from which Jews are not exempt. To practice moral relativism is a dangerous path to take, especially when one's accuser is not one of their own... I have known plenty of Jews who have treated me in an exceptionally more difficult manner than they would dare treat others. This case perhaps is no different, whereby Jewish self-hatred is almost indistinguishable at times from altruism... In the end, survival is key and no one in this world besides the Jews perhaps knows that in the end what doesn't kill you makes you stronger... My 2 cents.

24. #7 - I have issue with several points
William ,   Israel   (02.25.10)
Before I mention those points I must agree with other posters here who responded to you on an open and intellectual level. This is the way, and not violence instigated by outsiders with an agenda, to get peace done. Between two peoples, and no one else. That being said, I have to challenge you on several points. Gaza is NOT the most densely populated place on the planet. Infact, it's not even in the top 5. Monaco is much more densely populated and they have no urge to blow themselves up. And both Gazans and people from Monaco have beautiful beaches to enjoy - one enjoys it, the other ignores it. Next, unlike Afghanistan, "palestinians" actually had a chance at freedom and a State. Afghanis have not. They've always been oppressed, mostly by their own warlords. "Palestinians" gave up the fastest growing economy in the world in 1999, freedom of movement from Eilat, to Ramallah to Haifa. You had it all and blew it by following a despoting terrorist leader who promised you (as did Arab leaders in 1948) that he would destroy Israel and deliver its wealth to you. I feel worse for the Afghanis...they never even had the chance for freedom, "Pals" did and they gave it away.
25. #7 - Another point re: IDF soldiers
William ,   Israel   (02.25.10)
"the IDF soldiers open fire on some of them, killing some and injuring other **based on testimonies by IDF soldiers** " This was found to be false because those soldiers interviewed weren't even there. They admitted hearing the story from someone who heard the story, etc. etc. Nato troops almost never inform residents before clearing an area and never before a strike which usually ends up killing civilians. The war in Afghanistan has been going on for years, while Cast Lead was 32 days. Many more civilians died in Afghanistan and it could have been avoided. Conversely, Hamas hid directly behind civilians, with one video showing Hamas dragging civilians INTO a building that IDF warned everyone to leave because it was a target. Recently, the Taliban has been using this tactic. As far as the numbers in Cast Lead, non-Pal sources investigating it came up with less than 33% as civilians, not 87% as Hamas claims.
26. #14 Matty agrees with the article
Jake ,   USA   (02.25.10)
"If Goldstone was tasked with documenting the US war crimes in Fallujah he’d do just as good a job" Key word: *IF* There was no "Goldstone report" on Fallujah, and there never will be. Thanks for proving the authors point.

28. #14
(02.25.10)
the point is that the un NEVER ASKED GOLDSTONE TO INVESTIGATE THE UN BOMBINGS IN AFGHANISTAN. EVER! the usa and nato are also USING MUCH MORE SUPERPOWER/FIREPOWER MILITARILY IN AFGHANISTAN COMPARED TO WHAT THE TALIBAN HAS TO FIGHT WITH....REMEMBER???? DISPROPORTIONALITY IN GOLDSTONE REPORT????? do you think the usa and nato are not using disproportional firepower against the taliban who has next to nothing to fight in response???? i do!!! but goldstone apparently was never asked by the un or the world powers to investigate this disproportional american/ nato force, the errant missiles that killed in 2009, nine hundred innocent afghani civilians because of errant missiles. apparently gorldstone felt that only idf showed disproportional power against the gaza civilians, but not the americans and nato against the taliban. as well. goldstone was never called to investigate why multiple errant missiles missed and killed 900 civilians in afghanistan just during 2009. why did the world find israel needs to be investigated while the usa and all nato allies who committ these "crimes against humanity" are not investigated. you know why???? becasue no one cares until and inless israel is involved. this is the crux of it and the un and goldstone supporters will find any reason to blast israel and will forgive the same "crimes against humanity" where other countries are involved. by the way, the president abu bashir is still wanted as a war criminal. after all he killed, raped and mutilated 1 million people in his country. still no one is screaming for him to be arrested. on the contrary. he recieved a red carpet treatment by all those arab countries, including turkey, who have hosted him whiler the icc demanded his extradition. why is that??? after all, one million people murdered should also matter to the world, no???? hameed aboughaze, iranian
29. to Mr. Palestine
Gene ,   Great Neck, USA   (02.25.10)
Thousands of Iraqis were killed in the battle of Faluga by US and British forces. They shut off the water and electricity and used tanks in this built up area. The proportion of civilian to combatant death was greater than in cast lead. Hamas is equvalent to a light infantry force and it is not a paramilitary force.
30. War Criminals By Any Measure
J. Abramoff ,   Zion, zionazistan   (02.25.10)
