1. I propose that the UN, which hasn't done a thing about ...
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (03.12.10)
... rockets fired at Jewish civilians for years and has not demanded that the International Red Cross visit Schalit for all these years show a bit more humility and apologize for not fulfilling its mission to protect the peace. And besides, Israel is passing humanitarian supplies into Gaza regularly, even while fighting the rulers of the territory - an unheard act in any other arena!!! Israel is the only source of electricity, water, fuel and food supplies into the territory which is an enemy territory of Israel. Perhaps it is high time Egypt, the neighboring Arab state to the Arab Gaza should assume control over the territory and by so doing resolve all the territory's problems? But the UN is not eager to resolve the problems in Gaza; it is rather eager to find a "final solution" for Israel, hence the non-stop criticism, demonization and de-legitimization of a country that extricated itself from the territory nearly five years ago...!!!
2. easing blockade only when we see shalit in israel
(03.12.10)
3. holmes
(03.12.10)
stop the usa building a security and separation fence at the mexican border to avoid illigal immigration and drug trade. then, you can talk to israel
4. gaza
colin   (03.12.10)
Again some minor nincumpoop from the anti Israeli anti semetic UN sprouts his bullshit. John Holmes whoever he says he is ,missed his life dream of being a fairy tale teller. There has been no rebuilding in gaza as all the iron and concrete is used for making bombs and shelters for the corrupt hamas whom are scared of looters getting to the hords hidden from the stolen euros of the UN jOHN hOLMES GO HOME AND SHUTUP silence is golden.
5. Mr. John Holmes, you are full of bull
Don Saliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (03.12.10)
I live on the border of Gaza and almost every day, trucks of food, fuel and other stuff go into Gaza. Since Israel saw to it that by closing Gaza, terrorist attacks are down, very much down. If we lift the restrictions, terror will rear it's ugly head again. The so called "blockade" has stopped terror attacks, but the so called "blockade" still provides for Gaza with water, electricity, building material and food that is brought into Gaza. If the world wants to know what is happening in the middle east, as least give both sides of the story and last but not least, the truth
6. I am not an expert in Geography but...
(03.12.10)
Doesn't Gaza also border Egypt? Wouldn't the blockade also be administered by Egypt? There is no justice in this world, only self interests...
7. Mr. Holmes
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (03.12.10)
We agree with you. Gaza is a disaster waiting to happen. They do not like laws and rules. Maybe you can pass another useless resolution and give the territory back to Egypt. But wait, they do not want them either. Why you ask? They are also afraid of them. Please work it out with Mr. Haniyeh there. See what he says.
8. Why is he upset about tunnels & not Egypt's border crossing
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (03.12.10)
He blames Israel for the blockade, warns that there will be a crisis if Egypt continues to block the tunnels, but says nothing about Egypt's border crossing and the thousands who use it every week. Why don't they try to bring things in legally via the normal border crossing?
9. if ever the UN proved it was a waste of money this is it
zionist forever   (03.12.10)
Allow the tunnels to be built because they are needed for the Gaza economy. The man is not such a fool that he doesn't know those tunnels are built to smuggle in weapons to use against Israel and its the use of those weapons that lead to operations like Cast Lead which he condemns. Reminds me of the terrorists they kill one of ours so we kill one of theirs and they declare revenge. This is like saying let the terrorists blow up busses & fire rockets because if we stop them then it will damage their cause. Israel needs to stop paying millions of dollars for UN membership and withdraw from the organization. If we are not part of the UN they can't criticize or make demands from Israel. We won't need the US veto so that will be one less hold they have over us. This statement really is a new low for the traditionally anti Israel UN
10. end blockade with release of SHALIT
mother from north   (03.12.10)
hamas should release gilad then they can start negotiating about stopping the blockade
11. Here 's how to deal with your frustration!
Mike ,   London   (03.12.10)
Mr Holmes. It's a lot easier than you think. Pursuade your pals at Hamas, to accept Israel as a Jewish Nation State and have them negotiate a lasting and just peace! BOOOOM! Not only will your frustrations dissipate, you'll probably become orgasmic!
12. #8
Resistor   (03.12.10)
Israel has the final say on whom and what comes in and goes out at the Egypt crossing. Israel controls all the border crossings at GAza, and terefor takes the blame for the suffering of the 1.5 million Gazans.
13. Eitan #1
Resistor   (03.12.10)
The amount of trucks needed daily into Gaza to meet the MINIMAL needs of the people are more than 400. ow many do you count every day? About 130 or less. ow many hours do the Israelis turn off the electricity into Gaza? About 8 hours, EVERY DAY. Is there enough fuel sent into Gaza every day to provide for the backup generators when the electricty is turned off-NO! The sewerage system was deliberately bombed by the IDF. The only flour factory was deliberately bombed by the IDF. I can go on if you like........................
14. John Holmes is an idiot and AntiSemite
Brod ,   USA   (03.12.10)
He should be kicked out from the region for his crap. How did this idiot become a UN rep?
15. Israel owes nothing to Gaza, nothing!!! Free Gilad now and
Reut Koren ,   Israel   (03.12.10)
become part of the Arab world that you are. Have Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UAE sustain you. The Jews owe you nothing and stop blaming the Jews because of your misdeeds. Enough/!
16. #12 Hamas and Egypt governments coordinate the operation
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (03.12.10)
Check your facts - Gaza is open to Egypt via the Rafah Crossing. Only last week, 3,000 Gazans passed through Rafah freely en route to their studies, to receive medical care, or on their way back to the Strip after a trip abroad – all these people asked for and received a permit from the Hamas and Egypt governments, which coordinate the operation of the crossing. The thousands of people who passed through the crossing including six British parliament members and the Irish foreign minister, who used his trip through Rafah to condemn the “Israeli blockade” on Gaza.
17. 50 members of the US Congress have codemned the blockade
Fed Up ,   USA   (03.12.10)
There are more than 50 members of the US Congress who have formally demanded an end to the blockade. Several members have proposed that the US military be used to do that. That number is already more than sufficient to filibuster or block efforts to pass appropriations.
18. #17
(03.12.10)
Using the U.S. military? Who's half-assed idea was that? Maybe you'd like to enlighten us as to who these representatives were. And if you think you're fed up, you should try living with those thugs from Hamas up your ass...and then you'll know what being "Fed Up" really means.
19. Israel left Gaza in 2005, only to be fired upon. Why should
Roger ,   Paris, France   (03.12.10)
Israel help the Ganas all together. Gaza was part of Egypt before 1967 and maybe it is time Egypt asserted its control over this cesspool, and either assisted the Gazans or incorporated it into Egyptian territory. Israel should in my mind cease supplying Gaza with the water, electricity, petrol, food and medicine at once.
20. When will the UN take an action to expel Iran out of the UN
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (03.12.10)
for threatening to annihilate another member state of the UN, Israel, and wipe it off the face of earth, including all its nearly six-million "Zionists", Jews that is...??
21. #13 you are full of it
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.12.10)
Their markets are overflowing with food and luxury goods. In fact the tunnelers are complaining because Hamas has smuggled so much stuff that they are losing money. And no we have no say in what Egypt does. They have allowed terrorists and millions in currency to enter and leave without any consulting or anything with us. Yes you can go on with your lies but that does mean that there is anything to them. We are under no obligation to supply Gaza with anything. The war crimes of attacking our cities and towns gives us the right to leave the place if we so choose.
22. Resistor
Eyal ,   USA   (03.12.10)
What are you on exactly? YOU SAY Where do you read your facts exactly the Hamas Times? or perhaps the Palestinian Gazette? Rafa is controlled by Egypt, and the corridor (Phili) is controlled by the Gazans and not Israel (final say) as you claim. Israel controls the entrance to Gaza from the Israeli side. Get your stories straight before posting something so stupid.
23. He doesnt seem to care about Shalit! Its Hamas all the way!
Alan ,   SA   (03.12.10)
24. Hamas wants all terros free to kill again+ all borders open
Alan ,   SA   (03.12.10)
LOL LOL
25. Several little facts that "Resistor"
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (03.12.10)
either didn't know or didn't want to know: 1) When Israeli settlements were pulled out of Gaza in 2005, intact greenhouses which had been producing enough vegetables for export and to bring in a good living for the settlers were destroyed by Hamas operatives. After the debris was cleared, the foundations were subsequently utilized as launching pads for rockets and mortars. 2) The steel tubes used for carrying sewage out to the sea were ripped up by Hamas loyalists and and reconstructed into rockets and mortars. Incidentally, these steel tubes were originally provided by the Israeli government.
26. UN know nothing comments on Israeli security
bernard ross ,   st anns bay,jamaica   (03.12.10)
The UN idiotic parrot is clueless. The blockade forces hamas to use the tunnels to bring in non lethal items thus reducing the continuous lethal items brought in tunnels. Blockade means less dead Jews but why should the UN dunce care? The incompetent idiot should do his homework before opening his huge lying mouth.
27. He should complain with Hamas, not with Israel or Egypt.
robert renders ,   belgium   (03.12.10)
28. does he know anything about democracy? if so the legal demo
ralph   (03.12.10)
democratically elected government is hamas whose charter calls for war with israel. isn't that also against un rules - for what ever they are worth, not much it would seem - he better talk with hamas before he spouts off. and be taken as a fool.
29. UN
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (03.12.10)
UN and all it subsidiaries like the Red Cross don't care about Israel, they don't care about rockets pouring on Sderot, they don't care about Gilad Shalit, they don't care about Israeli border personel beiing killed by his Hamas friends.
30. I disagree - the blockade IS helping security, hurt Hamas
William ,   Israel   (03.12.10)
Recent "palestinian" polling revealed that Hamas was at an all-time low in support and the majority of rockets and attacks from Gaza have subsided. Gazans complain they voted for Hamas because of better infrastructure and less corruption. What they got was the right to be human shields for Hamas terror war, no schools or factories, and defensive measures from Israel that could have been avoided. Gazans admitted if elections were tomorrow, they would not vote for Hamas. Hamas knows this and is one reason why they are pushing so hard to make the prisoner swap happen - to again gain credibility. Now with the fence going up along the Egyptian border, Hamas will have nothing to offer Gazans. Hamas' main goal, and they voiced this many times, is to stay in power - down to the last "palestinian". So I say to John Holmes, "I respectfully disagree with your myopic, politically-based statement"
