Barnea is making the error that people's political views remain stagnant. That is grave error. He is lso forgetting that i another generation these American Jews will be gone and their children will mostly not be Jewish at all. One has to do what is right, not always what is politically expedient.

I think the term "liberal", and the "UK Guardian/Chomsky" type implication of the liberal mindset, is misleading for the vast majority of American Jews who find them anathema. Most American Jews are moderate/centrists and want what's in America's and Israel's best interests (which generally also believe, is a 2 state solution). Our goal is stability and prosperity for each country; not some biblical BS. Israel's government arrogantly insists it is going to do what it (ie: the right wing) perceives is in its best interest, and then criticizes America for doing what is in our strategic interest. That the assimilation/intermarriage are an issue is true. Israel's hard right thinks the Evangical's are a more loyal base (according to Bibi's brotherinlaw). Notwithstanding the Evangelical agenda (Armageddon - not exactly encouraging for those looking for long term peace), their ranks are shrinking also. Israeli's need to consider: the demographics of the region; the mentality of your enemies that love death more than life while Israel is willing to trade hundreds of prisoners for a single soldier. And consider Iran. Israel cannot afford to alienate the US or their biggest long term (ie: Jews) base of supporters therein. It is time to wake up and smell the coffee.
