Israel exists as a state today as an effort to protect jews from European and Arab antisemitism. About 10 years ago a group of Jews were walking down into the Underground/Metro and were blown up in a bomb attack, I think it was in Mannheim. It is very unsafe to be a Jew in Germany (duh....) and it was very very stupid to try to build up communities there of Russian Jews who didn't want to go to Israel.
