1. A 23 year old has a lawyer and a PR representative. Curious.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (04.08.10)
So she's got not just an attorney but a public relations representative. Who's the sugar daddy providing for this?
2. Anat, don't let the system get you
Moti   (04.08.10)
and thanks for the documents you've sent me - I've already submitted them to The Hague.
3. She must have had an English Passport.
Roland Seener ,   London England   (04.08.10)
4. Anat - Go for it!
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.08.10)
Anat you continue to stand up for your rights! The material was not secret in the first place. It appeared in Ha'aritz over a year ago. Someone is out to get you - fight them!
5. the next entries
nr ,   los angeles usa   (04.08.10)
in your biography should be traitor to her country, thief and serving life in prison.
6. Perhaps she also got the files on the Passport fraud
Israel Israeli   (04.08.10)
Why are there traitors that want to expose our worst crimes?
7. Response For Number 1
Richard ,   USA   (04.08.10)
Raymond - That is so malicious and judgmental. For your information, people, even at age 23, might have a lawyer and a PR representative. Nothing bad with that. No need for "sugar daddy", as you write, people may have earned money, not everything in this world revolves around "sugar daddies", unless this is all you can think about.
8. Comment
Richard ,   USA   (04.08.10)
I don't understand you, people. Lots of malicious comments. Wake up. Someone acted based on her moral and ethical belief, and reported something that, based on her set of values, and based on a previous Supreme Court Decision, was illegal. People are supposed to exercise judgment, not just to obey orders, and Anat has become a hero for fearlessly speaking what she, and many others believe, would stand for justice, morality, and integrity. Wake up. Last time I checked, disobeying a Supreme Court Decision was illegal and criminal. Nobody seems at least concerned about that, nobody seems to be concerned that Anat is being treated in the worst manner by her government, in the way that only people in communist countries are being treated, nobody seems to care that democracy and freedom of speech in the entire country have gone down the drain...everyone is more concerned that the press found out about illegal acts. Shameful.
9. Access to docs was "easy"?
Ariel Silverman ,   Karmi'el, Israel   (04.08.10)
How naive is indeed Anat, not to say an idiot or stupid. It's pressumable that ISRAELI soldiers serving in the Central Command with "easy" access to classified information work there as TRUSTABLE and LOYAL members of the IDF, who serve under oath of allegiance. Under allegiance and loyalty, why did she violate the trust put on her disseminating "easy" access CLASSIFIED documents? Who's buying the crap that they fall into "freedom of the press"? IT IS ABOUT ISRAEL'S NATIONAL SECURITY, for G-d's sake!
10. Response for Number 9
Richard ,   USA   (04.08.10)
It is not about national security. It is about exposing illegal behavior and violations of previous Supreme Court Orders. It is called whistleblowing, and is an act of courage, heroism, and principled behavior. If every time an illegal act is kept secret because it is labeled as "national security" issue, this is quite convenient, it is an excellent path towards a totalitarian dictatorship where nobody can open their mouth because they are labeled and slandered as traitors. Shameful. The way Anat was treated is reminiscent of the dark, totalitarian, communist dictatorship where people first lose their freedom, then are told why, and then they perhaps get a lawyer and read the charges, months later. This is not like a democracy, this is like the behavior of a totalitarian regime.
11. to #8 You sit there in the U.S. and do not
jason white ,   afula,israel   (04.08.10)
have to worry about constant terror attacks for years. How about all the terrorists killed by U.S. drones in afghanistan? Not along the U.S. border, but thousands of miles away. The U.S. army does not have to worry about a leftist supreme court yet. We have a court system here that sides with the enemies of the state. They will sacrifice the lives of Israeli citizens rather than kill terrorists and their supporters. kam and blau should be tried for treason and aiding terrorism. The rag ha'aretz should be closed down for a few months.
12. # 7
Birdi ,   Israel   (04.08.10)
If you would know how expensive a lawyer & a PR rep costs in Israel, you'd change your tune.
13. She got money from Iran
mike ,   baku azerbaijan   (04.08.10)
I am sure she took muslim dollars to get lawyer and pr 23 years old and rich with enemy money!! In kazakhstan we put her in the bus no windows or toilet, and send to alkaida!!
14. ANAT
Louise ,   Israel   (04.08.10)
Apparently morality is irrelevant in modern society. Theft is an anti-social crime that is a punishable offense in the first place. Secondly she stole classified military documents, which is against the terms of her service in the Israeli army. If she had been in another middle eastern country she could have had first her hands chopped off, and then her head. Isn't she lucky she lives in the land of Israel and nowhere else?
15. For #11
Richard ,   USA   (04.08.10)
Stick to the point, don't diverge from the discussion, if you cannot say anything. You don't like your court system, criticize it, but people have their rights too.
16. # 11
Birdi ,   Israel   (04.08.10)
Agreed Jason. The "rag" Haaretz should be closed down permanently.
17. # 14
Birdi ,   Israel   (04.08.10)
Very true, Louise.
18. How is this woman different from Tali Fahima?
(04.08.10)
Tali did the time for her crime! What is this silly young woman whinning about? If she did the crime (stealing is a crime not just anti-social behavior) then she of the "high moral standards" should be prepared to do the time!
19. It's not whistleblowing, it's treason
Ben ,   Rehovot, Israel   (04.08.10)
Just imagine if every soldier entrusted with classified documents did what he wanted with them. Including troop numbers and deployments, order of battle -- according to Haaretz.
20. Louise
Richard ,   USA   (04.08.10)
If morality is so relevant in modern Israeli society: perhaps one would not have reached this point, when physicians who swore to only provide the best care, in the best interest of the patient, were complicit in removing organs without notifying families. If morality is to be discussed, perhaps the recent charges against two Israeli lawyers, who forged rubber stamps to legitimize organ theft and then leaving victims without money and distroying the medical records, so the poor victims cannot even get care, let's look at that, if we talk morality. It is pathetic that nowadays everybody who has a different opinion and speaks out becomes a traitor.
21. Response for Number 7
Richard ,   USA   (04.08.10)
It is pathetic that when a 23 year old woman can hire a lawyer, she must, for certain, have a "sugar daddy". This is so sexist, and so chauvinistic. You would not say that about a 23 year old gentleman who hires a lawyer, would you? But yes, a 23 year old career woman who is a accomplished and tries to be outspoken, she must, for sure, have a "sugar daddy". Pathetic mentality.
22. Nr. 19: It is Whistleblowing, not Treason.
Richard ,   USA   (04.09.10)
This is not about "imagine if", it is not a philosophical question, it is about a fact. She thought her superiors acted improperly, and anyway this was about actions that already had occurred. Thus, it is not treason, and I don't see what other country is involved, to call it treason. But calling people who stand up for the truth "traitors", will certain get the society become a "yes, Sir" mentality type of communist totalitarian regime. This case proves it. It all resembles the secret soviet methods of action.
23. #8 - She broke military law following her "ethics"
William ,   Israel   (04.09.10)
So you can break one set of ethics in order to uphold another? Please. She broke the law and you try to paint her as a hero. Are you equally as supportive of US Army personnel who leak documents out based on their ethics? I doubt the JAG would consider motive when prosecuting a traitor. Just as in companies, being a member of an armed force means keeping sensitive information secret. Now, if you believe her treatment is the same as "a communist country", I urge you to read about the latest situation in Kyrgyzstan.
24. #20 - and they were punished for their actions
William ,   Israel   (04.09.10)
First, pathetic Richard, there were very few doctors who removed organs without notifying patient families, and we have a huge healthcare system that DOES follow the rules. Second, these doctors were severely punished for their immoral actions. Hence, if I follow your logic correctly, Anat had the same lack of morality in her actions and should be punished as well.
25. #21 - Richard - you're pulling out all the "Leftist" cards
William ,   Israel   (04.09.10)
Now you're calling people sexist and chauvinistic for questioning the motives and cash source of a 23 year old??? When will you begin using the words "racist" and "apartheid"? You already took care of "communist". The term "sugar daddy" was in quotes and did not refer to her gender but to a more generalized version of a common term. It was in quotes for a reason. Please explain how accomplished this 23 year old is....especially since her own career didn't begin until age 20 - after mandatory IDF service and working only as a journalist. Many times in the past we have seen IDF soldiers lured by NGO groups with an agenda to bash the IDF and Israel. Remember the two sweetheart traitors paraded around US college campuses last year by anti-Israel NGOs? Suspicions are well-placed, you're undying devotion to Anat is not.
26. Response for William
Richard ,   USA   (04.10.10)
Wiliam- "Sugar daddy" was not in quotes, for your reference I direct you to post number 1. Second issue, yes, people are sexist, chauvinistic, and ignorant, to associate a 23 year old young lady, whom they do not even know, with a "sugar daddy" for being able to hire a lawyer. I am perfectly knowledgeable with the meaning of this expression, no need to explain it, but thanks for the effort nevertheless. Still, it remains a pathetic excuse and a gross lack of culture and etiquette, to call a woman like that. Shame on you all. You are clueless about what she does, where and how much she works, but you are ready to start questioning her abilities. So demeaning, so judgmental, so childish. Grow up, people, stop judging people for their age, sex, or occupation. Civilized humanity left that neanderthal era behind, it is time for you to get out of it too.
27. A. Kam and publication of "sensitive" material.
Zooey ,   Toledo, OH   (04.13.10)
As A. Kam points out and as the NYTimes and the Guardian newspapers confirm, E. Blau submitted his articles to Israeli military censors BEFORE they were published and there were no objections! I salute these two modern Daniel Ellsberg heroes.
