31. The reason why Israeli Leftists are hypocrites
Tom W. ,   Windsor, Canada   (04.12.10)
Israeli leftists that don't live in Judea & Samaria criticize those Jews that live outside of Israel proper as settlers; however to Muslims all Jews even those living in Tel Aviv are illegal settlers! So these leftists who think they are immune from Islamic hatred because they choose to cozy up to Muslims and pick on their own people in order to redirect blame will soon find themselves the next targets of those very same Muslims who they're trying to suck up to now. These leftists don't understand that if they force all the Jews out of Judea & Samaria then very soon after that the next item on the Islamic agenda will be to target the rest of the State of Israel as one gigantic illegal Jewish settlement. Then what will these Jewish leftists do at that point?
32. True that, #20
Cameron ,   USA   (04.12.10)
I have noticed that game being played more than once at some bookstores the last several years. Always interesting to note the clerk's facial expression when inquiring about the location of a particular "Right-wing" author, or presenting it at the register for purchase. Hilarious when one scowls at you, and really gives you "the evil eye".
33. Stopped Sales For Hurt Feelings?!
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (04.12.10)
What utter and complete drivel. This poorly concocted lie couldn't fool a two year old. Tsomet Sfarim? More like Tsomet Pachdanim.
34. Incitement to hatred and demonization IS outlawed
William ,   Israel   (04.12.10)
Nevermind the politics behind this manifesto, the message is clear - a demonization of an entire group and incitement against them. Mein Kampf was also a private manifesto with the same message.
35. #19 - Are you sure you're not over-blowing this?
William ,   Israel   (04.12.10)
To call Israel a totalitarian State for one bookstore chain making a business decision, while Leftist media outlets which clearly report biased stories and incitement are allowed to operate freely? You're in Bahrain! Look outside to see what a totalitarian State looks like, idiot!
36. #21 - and they gained me as a loyal customer
William ,   Israel   (04.12.10)
It's a shame that you will support the protesting and boycotting of stores that hurt the feelings of the Left (like H&M when they arrived in Israel) but cry when a local store listens to their customers. You can dish it out, but can't take it. That's called ANTI-democratic, and since you single out a group of people, that also borders on racism.
37. Down with censorship! Publish my novel!
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (04.12.10)
I have written a novel, "The Adventures of Scrotie McBoogerballs" and if it is not published and sold in every bookstore on the planet then it's censorship!
38. #25 1 Israeli bookstore vs most US libraries
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (04.12.10)
There are plenty of bookstores where Israelis can buy this book, including online. In my neighborhood in L.A., there are very few conservative books, even best-sellers, so I buy them at Amazon.com. Worse, my public library is now so left-wing, it reminds me of Orwell's "1984." The children's section in particular, was completely purged of all the books I read as a child. In their place are shiny new books with more "politically correct" messages.
39. EXTREME LEFT WANTS FREEDOMS IT DENIES TO OTHERS...
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (04.12.10)
Zomet Sfarim WILL GAIN MORE CUSTOMERS THAN IT MIGHT LOSE. MANY PEOPLE IN ISRAEL AND ABROAD ARE TIRED OF THE EXTREME POSITIONS OF THESE " LEFTIST " PEOPLE. MUCH OF THEIR WORK IS MORE ANTI-ISRAEL THAN ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE. SO IF A STORE DOES NOT WANT TO CARRY A CERTAIN BOOK THEN THAT'S A FREEDOM OF CHOICE. THE BOOK STORE COULD HAVE DECIDED EITHER WAY, THAT'S THEIR DECISION AND THEIR RIGHT, IRREGARDLESS OF CUSTOMERS COMPLAINTS. THE EXTREME LEFT WANTS FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION FOR ITSELF BUT CRITICISES OTHERS WHO WISH THIS SAME FREEDOM.
40. If this book store chain is private enterprise
leo ,   usa   (04.12.10)
they have right to sell or not sell whatever they want. I wonder if anyone would object to removing "Mein Kampf" or would be supporting the sale of it.
41. do everybody a favor...
7azon Yesha3ya   (04.12.10)
if the price is $1 and it cannot be sold, publish it for free on line. you get a broader audience and stick the fascists back in franco's spain where they belong!
42. garbage. means we finally opened our eyes to leftist
ralph   (04.12.10)
fascist anti-democratic danger. you are the danger, you hide under slogans but upon review are anti-democratic, arrogantly disregard voters when you cannot or do not win the vote. you are the danger in this generation, not the right.
43. Freedom of Ideas.
Philip ,   Afula,Israel   (04.12.10)
Remember, the most dangerous thing in the world can be an IDEA. Also brings to mind those that burned books in the not so far passed history.
44. book store
das ,   israel   (04.12.10)
we no longer are a democracy. time for ME TO LEAVE with MY FAMILY ASAP. the country is being ruled by a cancerous tumor. SAD SAD SAD. I made aliyah years ago. things were much different. now I am looking for an escatpe and I HAVE SEVERAL options. I DO NOT WANT my children to do their reserve duty nor do I want my grandchildren in the army. Never felt this way before.
45. Disproportionate response Shula Aloni 's hatred of Israel
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.12.10)
Shulamit Aloni's hatred of Israel leads her to respond disproportionately and unfairly to this incident.
46. to #4 and #21
Arn ,   Yehud   (04.12.10)
If Tsomet Sefarim just lost you as loyal customers what I can tell you is that Israel has definitely lost you as loyal citizens..
47. Don't give Tzomet so much credit
Y ,   Israel   (04.12.10)
They probably pulled it off the shelf because the 1 NIS price wasn't giving them enough profit margin. Obviously, if they were pressured by rightists, that is pathetic and free speech must be allowed.
48. democracy enables the people...
(04.12.10)
to put pressure on a capitalist store... They want to make money so they choose to do away with a 1NIS book and not alienate the majority of their customers. This is not a shlomit describes, THIS IS CAPITALISM and FREE MARKET
49. About correctness: hatred is difficult to measure.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (04.12.10)
Even without a ruler or compass, it’s hard not to get the impression that the extended process of delegitimizing the settlers – which leads to genuine hatred of them – is hitting a peak. The left wing and the media have now labeled the settlers, as a group, as the abhorred OTHER that people are allowed to smack around. There are settlers who break the law, just as there are lawbreakers who are Palestinian, ultra Orthodox, politicians, Druze, Israeli Arabs, left-wing anarchists and others. The problem arises when the law becomes a way of marking an entire population as illegitimate. More about correctness : http://xrl.us/bi5da
50. The new pioneers.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (04.12.10)
Cowardly people who are prepared to give away the heart of Israel to our sworn enemies feel threatened by fellow countrymen who represent bravery and a will to survive. For post-Zionists like Peres, the woman who happily raises her kids in Judea and Samaria is a constant reminder of their own gutlessness, leading them to develop a burning hate for the pioneering and strong ‘Jew’. Nowaday, the religious settler is the emancipated Israeli, bedecked with side locks and tzitzit, and armed with the classic fundamentals of Zionist ideology : to ingather, to build, and to settle the land of Israel. 51. insufferable leftists
Arn ,   Yehud   (04.12.10)
All your talk about censorship and the banning of books is just hogwash. The authors of this seditious piece of garbage have not been jailed. The book has not been ordered destroyed by the authorities. Ynet puts a free bullhorn in your hands. But in a land which still respects free enterprise a bookstore does not have to answer to anyone about what it chooses to keep or remove from its shelves. I, for one, will now be Tsomet Sefarim's most loyal customer.
52. The price of the book says a lot about the content
keren ,   tzafon, Israel   (04.12.10)
How sad to be an author of a book that is so bad, you can't give it away!
53. All due respect to Mrs. Aloni
Salma ,   Palestine   (04.12.10)
I hope that I can get a copy of this important book
54. it's not a book, it's propaganda!
udi, read it ,   modiin   (04.12.10)
therefore the value freedom of speech has nothing to do with the book store decision
55. Salma # 53
Yerach ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (04.12.10)
And I hope you enjoy reading your book in your Palestinian capital of Amman. Remember Jordan is Palestine!!!!
56. to "44 who is leaving the country
Arn ,   Yehud   (04.12.10)
You wrote: "we no longer are a democracy. time for ME TO LEAVE with MY FAMILY ASAP. the country is being ruled by a cancerous tumor." If the refusal to sell a no-profit 1shekel piece of political claptrap moves you to quit this country you won't find your place in any country. And you must be an impossibly demanding and dictatorial parent if you expect you can force your decisions on your children and grandchildren. I don't see a trace of "democracy" anywhere in your mindset.
57. For you thinkers out there: Shulamit Aloni = Geula Cohen
JPS ,   Efrat   (04.12.10)
Isn't it amazing the similarities between Shulamit Aloni the leftist and Geula Cohen the rightist? Both go ballistic over the other side, demonizing their opponents as "undemocratic", among other nasty things. Yet what does factual history tell us? That both of them were rejected by the Israeli voters. Aloni's Ratz Party eventually merged to form Meretz, and Cohen's Tehiya Party simply disappeared - just like Meretz is about to do in the next elections. Instead of looking in the mirror and trying to find out why nobody voted for Meretz, Aloni angrily lashes out and declares that Israel is "undemocratic". Aloni and Cohen both represent losing political philosophies. Israeli voters rejected both Cohen's claim for a "greater Israel", and Aloni's claim that handing over all the territory captured in 1967 will bring "peace". And here's the huge fact that nobody seems to be able to realize: right wingers didn't vote for Cohen, and almost all left wingers aren't voting for Aloni's Meretz. Aloni's political ideology is a failure. The people rejected it. For this, she fails to realize that her policies suck, and instead says the country is "undemocratic." A sad statement, since even I, the "settler", would like to see a strong social-democratic party in Israel that fights for equality, rights, and the good of the common citizen. Instead, we have Meretz, which fights for the failed Oslo peace accord and nothing else. According to Aloni and Meretz, there are no poor people, there are no oppressed women and children, there are no education or health or socio-economic issues: there is only "the occupation". Israel voters simply aren't that narrow or naieve.
58. Shulamit Aloni & the LEFT HATE DEMOCRACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leftists = IDIOTS   (04.12.10)
UNLESS OF COURSE THEY CAN BENEFIT FROM IT! MOST LEFTISTS HATE ANYONE WITH A DIFFERENT OPINION=DICTATORS!
59. Savages
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.12.10)
Aloni is correct about savages in Israel. In the Shoah a Jews life expectancy did not exist. In a short time the population of Jews in Europe dropped to less than 2/3s. Before Hitler started the Shoah he proved to the world he had no choice: there was nowhere else to send the Jews. If Israel had existed, not one Jew would have been murdered. In the middle of the 20th century, the Arabs initiated a war of extermination on the Jews which succeeded in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Judea, Samaria, Gaza and Jerusalem but failed in the area which became the 1948 ceasefire lines. The "Nakba" is the name of this Arab failure to exterminate all the Jews. Today, on the memorial day for the victims of the Shoah, Shulamit Aloni's friends from the Zochrot organization announced that instead of commemorating the Israeli dead (Jewish and not Jewish alike) whose sacrifice keeps Israel in existence, they will commemorate the Arabs failure to exterminate the Jews. Savages indeed.
60. Basic realities
Danny ,   London England   (04.12.10)
Israel does have free and democratic elections and Meretz has lost almost all popular support. No book shop sells every book. There is supply and demand and every shop owner makes business decisions. The extreme or loony Left can't seem to accept basic realities.
