The way you write you sound like a resonable person who is NOT very well informed (as you say yourself). Please, don't be influenced by hysteric headlines and propaganda, but start reading /learning about the (real) history of Israel and the Palestinian territories (there never was a country called Palestine, contrary to the 'Land of Israel, which you can find in the Old/New Testament). Learn about the (ugly)British role in this hole mess and you will be surprised about the new and different picture and perspective you will get.

In answer to your question ,Matty Groves is not from Fairport . He has simply chosen a song Matty Groves from the Album Liege and Lief by the 70s folk rock band Fairport Convention . A pity this muppet has to desecrate a brilliant album by association .

Cement can be used for military purposes. As part of an agreement in 2005, the Israelis left Gaza to the Palestinians, in return the Palestinians were supposed to recognize Israel's right to exist and to stop throwing rocks and bombs at Israel's civilians. Israel lived up to their part of the agreement, but the Palestinians got more rockets and bombs and sent them into Israel. So much for agreements with the Palestinians! They do not want to live in peace with Israel-Hamas,which controls Gaza, is dedicated to Israel's death! Got it?

Carsten Schmidt ,   Germany   (06.04.10)
I hope you guys have learned from the last incident: don't board that ship. You have other means. I have no empathy for the irish terror sympathizers on that ship. I would not shed one single tear.
99. Seyfullah # 43
Harvey ,   London and Tel Aviv   (06.04.10)
What Rachel Corrie really represents is the personification of a naive idealistic young woman who was cynically exploited by the International Solidarity Movement .Led to believe she was making a vital contribution she was exposed to extreme danger by those prepared to exploit willing dupes in order to hinder Israels security forces rather then risk their upper echelons or Hamas /Fatah operatives. Far from being an apolitical NGO ,the ISM is an active part of the so called non military wing of the various terrorist groupings ,much the same as SinnFein was the political non military mouthpiece for the IRA. The ISM is as ruthlessly dedicated to the eradication of Israel as their terrorist counterparts ie Hamas ,Fatah etc. Rachel Corrie and others like her are effectively rushed off an assembly line with minimal training and placed in a hostile enviroment . As ever for the terrorists and the ISM it can only be a win win situation .If their dupes prevent an IDF action its a victory. If one or more get killed in the process ,even better .A propoganda scoop and though you will never see it ,the sweets and sweet tea are passed around in copious amounts. Absolutely repugnant but only to be expected from these barbarians.

101. #71 not all Irish are antisemetic
Noel ,   Cork, Ireland   (06.04.10)
Steve should read the letters to editor in the Irish Independant newspaper today to see what normal Irish people have to say. We are most certainly not all supportive of the activists stance and choose not to carry on inthe way they do. The TV news has also cut back on the coverage of the activists return to Ireland, indicative of the embarrassment they are creating. Your threats of "closing Israel" are a joke and reflect your mentality
102. Israel keeps sowing the wind
John ,   Ireland   (06.04.10)
In view of the relative demographics it seems to me that the more 'victories' Israel has over the Arabs the less favourable eventual result will be for the state of Israel.
103. to # 82, 84(IDIOT BRÄ°AN FROM USA), 87 and 99
seyfullah ,   turkey   (06.04.10)
to 82: kurdish question is very different from israel question with HAMAS or FATAH. HAMAS is a political party aiming to defend his counrty agaisnt israel and taking 65% of votes. usa and israel called them to join the elcetions, they said they will recognise them, but usa and isreal showed their hypocrisy as netanyahu said. kurds never have a state. and nowadays turkey are interrogating the criminals about the kurdish events. ok. did your govt take a similar action? to #84: I feel ashamed that turkey is one of the first countries that recognised isreal. firstly, all genocides are not acceptable and ,yes, they stem from inhumanity. second, we cannot be allies. it is complete delusion. also, our help to isreal is more than israel to turkey. otherwise, you would be wiped out. to 87: EU parliamentarians also said isreal is not a terrorist state although many indeppendent international instiutions like UN reports have been published that showing isreal's crimes. what EU do is hypocrisy. they regretted to make holocoust and they feel obliged to help israel and not take any action against them. to #99: Rachel Corrie is the person daring to resist isreal' criminal actions. have ever thing why ISM trying help HAMAS OR FATAH not isreal? they are the parts representing PALESTINIANS.

Tom ,   UK   (06.04.10)
I think I'm a reasonable person, yes, but while I'm no historian I have a decent grasp of the history of the area and my country's involvement in the past. Countries and 'promised lands' in religious texts written thousands of years ago mean absolutely nothing in 2010. No other country on earth bases its right to exist on the writings of some guys who were around many, many centuries ago. A century ago the Jewish population was still a tiny majority in the region, and that is far more important to me as a secular individual living in the 21st century. To be honest, though, it's still not a big issue for me. Neither is the existence of Israel as an entity all of its own. What is an issue, however, is the way Israel treats the people whose lands it has been occupying for 43 years. Similarly, the way in which Israel repeatedly disregards not only international opinion but international law is becoming beyond a joke. That is why people angry, not because of anti-Semitic views.

106. Support for the rule of law
Lucas Cole ,   Dallas, TX   (06.05.10)
I want you in Israel to know that many well-informed Americans, especially those who derive their news and videos from Glenn Beck's sources and don't rely on the state media (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.), support the rule of law and the right to protect your country. If a ship from Saudi Arabia or even Ireland tried to illegally enter our waters, it would be met by armed Coast Guard. Don't bet your lives (speaking to "activists") that it wouldn't.
107. Support of Israel
Lucas Cole ,   Dallas, TX   (06.05.10)
I would add that I will pay $10.00...make it $20...a gallon for gasoline before I would support turning my back on our ally, Israel. Stand firm, and thank God you've got a Prime Minister with a spine.
108. #9 THEY COULD GO THRU EGYPT
AF ,   USA   (06.05.10)
Many in the naive west do not know geography. Egypt an arab muslim country has a border with Gaza too. Israel tols them that they can deliver it thru Egypt. Obviously it has more to do with politics than anything else.
109. re: MV Rachel Corrie and Israel
joel ,   usa   (06.05.10)
THE MARITIME LAW PROTOCOL FOR OCEAN GOING SHIPS ENTERING INTO SOVEREIGN TERRITORIAL WATERS MUST FOLLOW ORDERS FROM THE TERRITORY'S NAVY/COAST GUARD, AND THE PROFESSIONAL OFFICERS & CREW OF MV RACHEL CORRIE KNOW THAT( IF THEY ARE PROFESSIONAL SAILORS LICENSE); THE ISRAEL NAVY/COAST GUARD MUST CHECK THE LICENSE OF THESE OFFICERS & CREW, AND THAT IS STANDARD PROCEDURES OF INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANIZATION OF THE UN; ANY ATTEMPT TO SHOW "AGGRESSION" OF THE FOREIGN SHIP CAN BE DEALT WITH BY "FORCE" WITH THE NAVY/COAST GUARD; YOU CANNOT DO THIS IN ANY USA TERRITORIES, THE US COAST GUARD WILL STOP YOU AT ANY COST, ABSOLUTELY!

Aviva ,   Israel.   (06.05.10)
You are talking a load of rubbish. Israel always belong to the Jewish people. Even the west bank and Gaza. Any arab land was payed for with gold and silver in the biblicial times. Your hated for the Jews is so evil.

Erez - ,   Efrat, Israel   (06.05.10)
Your English is very bad as well. What's your excuse noting that you live in the UK? It must be due to your very low IQ resulting from low nourishment, Poor health care, and non-existent education.
112. Seyfullah Ys PKK and Hamas are different
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (06.05.10)
hamas hides in populated areas and hide behind civilians after they launch their rockets to kill israeli children like Yuval Abebeh. The PKK - although terrorists like Hamas - they are at least brave terrorists who hide in isolated mountains not endangering their civilians. I do not like PKK s terrorist actions but I respect them for not hiding behind children women and elderly. BUt hamas is not only terrorist but a coward kind of terrorist. this is the only difference.
113. At least one man in Ireland has brains.
Omri   (06.05.10)
The Irish government has conceded the coming boarding of the Rachel Corrie and asks that the IDF exercise restraint in doing it.
114. The Dangers of Macaroni and Cheese
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (06.05.10)
Mac & Cheese and cement are not existential threats to Israel. The concrete is for housing and maybe some bomb shelters for the next time Israel decides there are too many schools in Gaza. The Ashdod offer is bogus. There might be contraband spaghetti. Or condoms or medicines not on the IDF approved list. or underwear that hasn't rotted for 3 or more years, like was delivered last month.
115. #96
Sidney   (06.05.10)
'Hamas, which controls Gaza, is dedicated to Israel's death! Got it?' The whole world apart from USA is dedicated now!! Got it Fool!!!
116. 96 Mom Sadly Misinformed
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (06.05.10)
Israel specifically made the agreement with Bush, not the Palestinians. Bush engineered Hamas into power, by consulting on the Palestinian elections after the Disengagement and then pushing Hamas into Iran's arms. Israel wouldn't talk to any Palestinian except when arresting them in 2005.
117. @Aviva #110
Tom ,   UK   (06.05.10)
Clearly you're not capable of living in the real world, or dealing with real issues. Any kind of negative comment about Israel and you scream "JEW HATER", well I'm not that. Neither am I an anti-Semite, or for that matter anti-Israeli. Something that happened a few thousand years ago bears absolutely no influence on the world as it is today. I suggest you grow up, and next time you start throwing accusations of racism around actually have some manner of justification, .

it goes as far back as Isaac and Ishmael. It will not stop until there is a second coming. this is the first step to initiating the Gog Magog war. I percieve this as total provocation and if you turn you back on Isreal you will be cursed, this all must happen and will...keep your laterns lit the end is nigh
