66. Haber is a total disgrace. This reads like enemy propaganda.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.13.10)
Haber is a disgrace and should not have a pulpit anywhere in the mainstream Israeli press. His actions, in the past, such as freeing and arming terrorists, undoubtedly cost many Israelis their lives and wellbeing. Today he writes columns demeaning Israel, as if living in our 3,500 year old Homeland was "fooling the world". This reads like enemy propaganda. Too disgusting for words!

68. Israel becoming a pariah nation
Eric ,   USA   (06.13.10)
Many of you don't seem to want to face reality, but the reality is Israel is fast becoming a pariah nation in the World. The lack of peace, the settlements, the occupation, the blockades, the new Jewish ultra-nationalism, and the apartheid policies are all becoming sore spots in the World. Too bad Jews and Israelis are the last to know it.
69. #42 Nour - my comment (#57) applies for you too.

70. To 68 - In short,
Tas ,   International   (06.13.10)
1. Jews, stop protecting yourselves. 2. Accept the will of those against you. 3. Move back to where you came from Sorry Eric, NO. Not this time. p.s. eric. In your eyes and those like you, throughout the ages, now matter what Jews do - they are always the pariahs.
71. to #68 Israel becoming a pariah nation
M Carr ,   Baltimore   (06.13.10)
I see your definition of pariah nation. But let’s see which nations better fit the definition. Nations that condone or tolerate: mistreatment of women death for apostates beheadings mistreatment of homosexuals anti-Semitism terrorism religious intolerance bigotry religious fanaticism and on and on Of course you will find examples of these in every nation. But they are not a matter of GOVERNMENT POLICY in Israel. Go to Israel and live for a year, and then try Saudi Arabia. Then bring what’s left of you back to the USA and tell me all about it.

Well said but this is the Zionist way to save their life. Saddam and George W. Bush used to use the same theory "Kill them before they kill us"
74. You are fortunate to have...
Rafi ,   US   (06.13.10)
... a prophet as courageous as Eitan Haber, who like the Biblical prophets, speaks truth to power, against sole reliance on force and power. To #'s 2 Terry, 8 Tanya, 66 Chaim: you can't seem to handle the truth & reality - that due to the policies of Likud and Netanyahu, Israel is more isolated today than it has ever been in all its 62 yrs. What IS your answer? what is your solution for Gaza? do you really think 1.5M people are going to sit quietly there forever? The fact is you have no credible solutions to any of Israel's biggest problems. One reason is that your pro-settlement policies have created most of the problems to begin with. You can blame Mr Haber all you want for speaking the truth, or assert that US Pres Obama is the cause of all your grief... but the real cause are your own policies and actions. It is your policies that are taking Israel over the cliff....
75. Rafi 74
Simon ,   UK   (06.13.10)
Hi Rafi , perhaps you will be prepared to persuade your goverment to fulfil the Helen Thomas dream to open up your country and allow 6 million Jews to come and become Americans. Or are you hoping for another Masada to solve your concience.

Somebody should pay mr Haber a lot of money.
78. Congrats, Haber
Cameron ,   USA   (06.14.10)
You wanted them rattled, and that they are. You hit on some of the largest, classic "fault-lines" in the Israeli mindset. No one is taking anything blindly for granted these days. A much healthier approach.

"if Israel ever wants to get back the positive image she enjoyed in the years after her establishment. " Do you mean those years when all the nations boycotted Israel economically, including Switzerland? Starting with 1946!!!!
83. Yep, and you were warned for many years...
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (06.14.10)
Now you do indeed have it all, just like you wanted. Two states are an impossibility, y'all have ensured that. So now it's the dreaded One State Solution(tm). One man, one vote. Heh heh...
84. haber
michael Pielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (06.14.10)
Haber and his boss sat on the white house lawn and made peace with the arabs. The press and elites of israeli society said peace in our time. To think that the conflict between Israel and the arabs could be resolved on the white house lawn is an incredible example of self delusion. Haber is depressed, he does not believe in am israel, nor the g-d of Israel neither did his boss.
85. #84 you said it all here... the total fallacy
Rafi ,   US   (06.14.10)
... of the approach of you & your colleagues... Yes, in the wake of Oslo, the doors for Israel opened in more countries than ever before in history. PM Rabin z"l even visited Indonesia, the most populous Islamic state, on a business/ trade trip. Israel's overseas economic and diplomatic ties went off the charts. Of course, Syria & Iran did everything they could to sabotage Oslo with a series of terror bombings. But a majority of Israelis still supported the process and told Rabin to keep moving forward. That was expressed in the massive Saturday evening peace rally held in Tel Aviv in Nov 1996... Oh yes, one other party worked to sabotage Oslo and peace process: Likud, Netanyahu and much of the settler movement. Because they correctly understood that peace would have meant giving up most of the settlements. In fact, since the religious settler zealots couldn't win this discussion democratically, they enabled a representative to murder Rabin and end the peace process. And indeed it worked - Israel now has the settlements - but at horrific cost: no prospect of peace (in fact several wars beckoning) and virtual alienation from the rest of the world, including a large portion of Diaspora Jews and their youth. Surely a worthwhile trade! Meanwhile, what exactly is the strategy of these groups for the future? How are they going to deal with on-going problems, like an angry population of 1.5M in Gaza, and the demographic realities on the West Bank? After explaining away all the bad news and reality as "anti-Semitism", Barak Obama is a Muslim, can't trust the US, Rabin and Haber are traitors, etc..., how do these groups propose an isolated, self-rightous Israel will deal with the next inevitable crisis and war? Here's how: Israel totally on its own, of course, with Hashem as its ally. This is their ultimate strategy (it's all here in # 84 among others) - and anyone who questions it like Eitan Haber is branded "defeatist.", etc - when in fact he is taking a courageous true patriotic stand to try to bring Israel back to its senses and away from the bleak destiny promised by the zealots of intolerance...
86. Thank You
Ray ,   Ann Arbor, MI, US   (06.14.10)
My first visit to this publication; the first thing I have read in it. I came here by way of a search for information about Hezbollah. I found the news clipping I was looking for, but I was concerned that this site would present relevant information with a profound slant. To get a bit of a feel for the place, I clicked the first couple of editorial pieces that appeared on the main page. So here I am. And I am impressed. This one, at least, is in touch with reality. I especially appreciated the line about the stupid Americans, or however he put it. I've been on the receiving end of some of that sentiment. This guy, I think, has lived in the U.S. -- and somewhere other than Brooklyn. So, I dunno. I'll look at the other articles, and maybe consider signing up via RSS.
87. Great Article
Ronald ,   USA   (06.15.10)
Thank you , the article was written well and speaks the truth no matter how much it hurts right now to anyone from Israel to hear this but the article is 100% true.
88. Disagree!!!
Eric   (06.15.10)
We may not perfect, but when we look at the conflict with the Arabs, no doubt that justice with us.
89. Sober up Fast
Ken ,   Australia   (06.16.10)
This is the right time to look at our options a lot better than just plan old deterence. We have to undrstand the world and arab psyche, they have run around this earth creating more anti-jewish sentiment than ever before. Time is on our side now, we must take the bull by the horns and understand which way our enemies are deceiving the world, so that we dont get cought up in there quagmire, if we do this we will be ahead alot further, our enemies are plotting so , dont appease them, we must ensure israel stands tall in this millenium, the forces against us should be wiped of the map,and I dont mean millitarily, after all, we do have the brains. There are other elements and forces out there that have plotted against us for over 60 years and still beleive they can make us vanish. They beleive in this so much that we are now deep in 60 years worth of psychological warfare against us - Hence the complete delegitamization of the jewish people, not just the state of israel.
90. not so fast,
FEM ,   USA   (06.18.10)
Dear Mr. Haber Not too fast , It looks like Israel had to do many things to survive, long time ago the jews lived in many Countries of the midelleast , The Jews of Iraq loved Iraqi and in many cases more than any other citizens we can say the same for all the countries of the world, I do not understand , why the Jews allways have to explain to everybody that it is time to have peace and live with rest of the world population normaly. I am not a Jew , I was not even a supporter of the state of Israel, that is untill the Turkish ship approching Gaza whith the a cargo of hatred and plans for future distraction, If the Turks on that ship were smart and a peace loving men and women it could have been wiser and use the knives to cook a tasty shish kabab (Halal is ok) for the Israeli solders and welcom them on the ship. By this action I beleve the lives of the 9 Turks could have been saved. Unfortunatly these men were looking for a SHADA only. Turkey shouls have keept those Islamist home in Turkey. It is in our hand to make peace or war, Alah has nothing to do with it. I am not too sure how the arab contries all had Jewsh past like Iraq and only a hand full of elderly Jews are left in Baghdad. Please understand me, you are writing the truth and you must treat each incident separetly, Israel need to push for devolaping and open windows to the Arab world (islamic) and explain that Isrealis are a peace loving country, and I promas you that you will find many like me to accept Israel to live side by side any whith any one, The time is over for " an eye for eye" or some time for eyes is ,no more. I will look for more of your writings.
