1. THEIR declared intent was to break Israeli law, so who gives
(06.23.10)
a Fu*% what THEIR countries' laws say ??? They need to check their Internat'l law: if their declared intent was to break a sovereign country's blockade, even in Int'l waters Israel was within its legal bounds.
2. Does "Greek Law" supercede Intl Law?
William ,   Israel   (06.23.10)
Not outside of Greece, it doesn't. Infact, if Greece acknowledges that it allowed its citizens to take part in running a legal war-time blockade, that could make their govt partly responsible for the act. A counter-suit would be optimal as it will only take a court ruling of $10 or more in favor of Israel to cause the Greek system to collapse.
3. Gaza Flotilla
Jody ,   Los Angeles, CA   (06.23.10)
I find it amazing that a person who was told in advance NOT to come because Israel will defend itself if you do, feel righteous to sue for damages that would not have occured had he stayed home as advised. The advanced early notice by Israel was not a secret to anyone! It was well publicized for weeks.
4. we have to get after these wig nuts every way we can.

5. As far as returned possessions/deporting goes:
(06.23.10)
They could've stayed in Israel -- in jail! (They broke Israeli law by attempting to break through the blockade). ....and their "things"? I've had the same treatment from some airlines with my luggage and I'm a paying customer, not a hostile instigating lawbreaker! To quote Superchicken: "you knew the job was dangerous when you took it!"
6. They look just like the creeps in "We con the world"
Avi ,   Geneva   (06.23.10)
7. Greeks, too?
Uri ,   Jerusalem   (06.23.10)
But Israel was going to send aid ship to Greek Cypriots. Israelis were thinking that we could ally with Greece against the Turks. But it looks like Greeks are not interested in Israel. I already heard quite a lot of anti-semitic comments from Greeks anyway. Oh well, then let's try to stick with Kurds and Armenians against the Turks then. But Armenians are also anti-semitic, they collaborated with Nazis, sent soldiers to support Nazis. Kurds are Islamists, so we can't trust them either. Israel, all alone again.
8. ha, you broke intl law yourself
courtney ,   usa   (06.23.10)
sorry bud, but you decided to break intl maritime law first.
9. ICJ Jurisdiction
Joseph ,   NJ, USA   (06.23.10)
This case cannot legally proceed as the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice is extremely limited. Israel MUST consent to the proceedings at the ICJ, and until Israel undertakes to do that, any action of the ICJ, beyond an advisory opinion, is non-binding. 10. Really. come on
Joe ,   US   (06.23.10)
Despite your obvious bias, international law in Hague is where they want to present their petition while also pursuing lawsuits within both greece and israel. This flotilla was within their rights to deliver aid to the peoples of gaza. Israel was not within their rights to assault civilian ships without clear evidence of a threat to the state of israel. This is clearly a failure for the israeli pr machine. It comes down to a case of "wtf were the israelis thinking?" Obviously not thinking at all., that's what makes it so egregiously blatant.
11. Israel Law is Irrelevant in Gaza
Doug ,   Rochester, USA   (06.23.10)
The flotilla announed their intention to go to Gaza, not Israel. Had they made it past international waters, they would have been subject to Gaza laws, not Israel laws. I thought Israel announed it had ended the occupation of Gaza several years ago.
12. Free Gaza sues Israel?
patrick ,   Omaha, U.S.S.   (06.23.10)
13. GREEKS are filing complaint??????
tiki ,   belgium   (06.23.10)
Israeli's are liars and THEY are telling the truth! Please......, havn't they done enough damage to Europe and the world? Today on 'Hardtalk/BBC, there was an interview with one of the 'flotilla's (US) leaders, a real 'Gem of Peace'. In between the 'tatoos, you could somehow recognize a face. The 'nonsence he was 'spewing in the journalist's face (she could hardly get a word in), was real 'peace language. It's about time that some Israeli/Jewish lawyers take these 'lying extremists to court for 'incitement and endangering Israeli lives. Let them PROOF their case instead of 'screaming unfounded mantra's into our faces all the time.
14. balance the scales
Kelos ,   Athens, Greece   (06.23.10)
Israel should start aiding the Kurds. Help them with their public relations. Supply them with weapons. And urge them to dedicate themselves to annihilating all non-Kurdish Turks. I think it could catch on all over the world.
15. ok, i'm a lawyer...
peter baumgartner ,   bern   (06.23.10)
in the governemnt of switzerland, specialized in international law in detail. i can tell you already now, the chances that anyone sueing israel or israelis about the flotilla incident will win even only one case is about one to a million. with that i'm suggesting that those people seeking "revenge" for the israeli raid on the marmara, will gain nothing but embarassment. the evidence given to us (video = the highest evidence material there is) shows more than c-l-e-a-r that those very "peace activists" were nothing else but rather terrorists, seeking to hurt israeli soldiers and play the propaganda card. in addition to this, the clear and official intention of the flotilla to "break the blockade" gives israel every right to interception even in international waters. gosh, even other people on the marmara said they tryed to stop the others from cutting metal rods. well, i can tell you by now, that the accusers will drop their case very soon, not only because of the overwhelming evidence, but also because gaza is not a country and hamas is not a government. conclusion: i had to laugh really hard when i read this article. it's just a shame that there are so many stupid people (should i say arabs? because im starting to see a trend!) who really believe they can make up the truth as they wish. suggestion: keep doing your thing, israel. you are the only democracy in the middle east, if not even the whole east! i and we stand behind you, and behind the rightous. viva the law.
16. Gaza is not a political toy
Dave ,   USA   (06.23.10)
FREE GAZA organization playing a cruel game of politicizing the region and its suffering citizens. Many will suffer more, or die, while FREE GAZA playing politics.instead of promoting humanitarian aid and promoting peace. FREE GAZ is no better than HAMAS; both are 'riding the backs' of the innocent (and possibly peace seeking) Gaza residents. Shame on you!

19. It happened on Greek soil
Matt ,   Winnipeg, Canada   (06.23.10)
William: The ships were boarded in international waters, and in international waters, the ships are considered the soil of the country they are flagged under. Greek courts have jurisdiction when it comes to events which occur on Greek flagged ships in international waters, so it's entirely reasonable to file suit in a Greek court. Technically, by boarding a Greek ship in international waters, Israel has committed an act of war against Greece - it would be considered piracy if it hadn't been the armed forces of a recognised state. In this light, proceedings at the IJC are also justified.
20. Israel needs ministry for petty harrassment
Sam ,   Canada   (06.23.10)
The Palestinians and their supporters are incapable of destroying Israel so they resort to petty harassment instead. Israel should establish a department to deal with enemies who are little more than a nuisance.
21. Frivolous law-fare being waged to delegitimize Israel.
Daniel ,   Los Angeles, USA   (06.23.10)
22. # 9
Birdi ,   Israel   (06.23.10)
Because Israel is not signatory to the treaty that created the International Court of Justice in the Hague, it cannot be tried there. Any country that is signatory to the Geneva Convention, however, can try to prosecute individuals who took part in the flotilla raid.
23. #13 Very well said!
Dia ,   Germany   (06.23.10)
Dear Tiki, Bravo! I agree with you! It was enough to watch these indivduals, who joined the flotilla, to realise that there are just a bunch of brainwashed fanatics. Dia Germany
24. #7, Uri, not AGAIN but AS USUAL
avi   (06.23.10)
as the Torah told us some 3000 years ago, and isn't that for nothing or is there an aim in being so ?
25. Amazing
Anthony Evans ,   Los Angeles United S   (06.23.10)
It's amazing how much hate there is in most of the previous remarks. I guess that's the root of the problem, hate.
26. # 11
Birdi ,   Israel   (06.23.10)
"The Helsinki Principles on the law of Maritime Neutrality." Merchant ships flying the flag of a neutral state may be attacked if they are believed on reasonable grounds to be carrying contraband or breaching a blockade & after prior warning they intentionally & clearly refuse to stop, or intentionally & clearly resist visit, search or capture or diversion.
27. correction
Birdi ,   Israel   (06.23.10)
My post about the Helsinki Maritime Law is in answer to post # 10, not 11.
28. my truth
cristian ,   arg   (06.23.10)
the truth this war is for me not to shoot neither to struggle or to die the city is going to yield to the tempest the misery and the loneliness they are not going to bear and traverse so many blood around me so much friend lost i also lost a love the city is going to yield to the tempest if they do not want to see us badly i want to be some kind of more than this shit and i am going to give it fights in this war already which is the game my flag is that of the deserter i am not afraid and i am full of fire my fights is for the salvation to resist it is necessary to construct without enemies to negociate i will win of whom it wants freedom and i am going to give it fights because i do not want to join the flock if i have another opportunity already in order that to fight
29. Matt #19 wrong answer
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.23.10)
San Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts says that as soon as they declared their intent to break the blockade - which they most certainly did. We have every single right to board any ship that announces that they were going to violate the blockade - no matter what flag or if international waters. That is exactly what international law states. I know because I read the law for myself.
30. HAHA, see you in court:)
Historical Observer ,   USA   (06.23.10)
Please, all this for media attention and nothing more. You'll end up owing Israel attorney's fees and make fools of the organization when they declare bankruptcy. Haha seriously, anything to make us laugh. Just proves this was nothing more than a publicity stunt.
