1. Abbas is in "The Catbird Seat"
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (07.17.10)
Israel will never get a better deal than the 1967 borders, and should take the deal while they still can. CIA reports Israel will fall within 20 years. Which means a mass migration of Jews out of Palestine to the United States, Russia, etc.
2. ABBAS the "SOB" wantd INTERNATIONAL BORDER FORCE TO LAUNGE
BENJAMIN ,   SINGAPORE   (07.17.10)
ROKETS INOT ISRAEL.....AND ALSO PEACE ......THIS ABBAS IS A "SOB "... ISRAEL DONT NEED TO HELP THE PALS ...WE SHOULD CARE FOR OWN OWN CHILDREN FIRST !!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !!
3. Tell Abbas to take a hike.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (07.17.10)
Jordan is not far - he'll be there in no time. It should be quite obvious that the Fatah crooks have no interest in talks, actually, they have no interest in a state. The last 15 yrs since Oslo have been a bad joke, perpetrated by our own idiot politicians, our brain-dead leftist media, & a few screwballs in the various looney-left peace organizations. Sure, there's lot's of international pressure but the source of this stupidity lies here at home, our own politicians who have gone along with this farce since the Oslo disaster. Even a genuine liberal, a supporter of Oslo, a believer in an eventual peace (I'm not talking about myself, that's for sure) such as the scholar & Mid-East expert, Prof. Barry Rubin, has called this a fiasco in several lucid & objective essays. See http://rubinreports.blogspot.com/ We are wasting our time. Worse, this is a distraction from our real priority, Iran & her proxies, Syria & Hezbollah.
4. Talks obsessions
Frank ,   Canada   (07.17.10)
There is nothing to talk about with Fraudestinians.
5. Totally ridiculous
Frank ,   Canada   (07.17.10)
This war is an Arab agression against Israel and Palestinians want an international force to protect them against Israel. The fake peace process is totally ridiculous and all actors are showing their true colors: they don't to bring but to create a terror state at war with Israel.
6. Agreed, Borders to be on August '67 basis
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (07.17.10)
We can agree to hold talks based on Israel's 1967 borders with Palestine, oh wait there were no borders with Palestine. So if he wants 'Borders must be on '67 basis' then he is saying that Jordan is Palestine?
7. NO to Modern Day Crusaders
Brod ,   USA   (07.17.10)
Israel should say NO to the introduction of Modern Day AntiSemite Crusaders in the Land of Israel. The spirit of Papism/AntiSemitism and Islamist-Jihadism must never be allowed in the Land of Israel. Such external forces must never be allowed in the Land of Israel. In fact, Israel should say NO to the dark forces and their mouthpiece-Abbas.
8. You have got to be kidding
Slice ,   Dallas, TX   (07.17.10)
It just blows my mind at how the "palis" and Arabs in general think they have the "right" to request anything or demand preconditions without ever giving anything in return. Just shows how impossible it is to deal with these people, just for argument, if they were given all of Israeli land for peace, they would ask for all the Jews to leave the country as another precondition to actual peace. I don't know why the Israeli Gov doesn't fire back with a list of its own preconditions: no more rocket or mortor fire ever, no more suicide bombers ever, no more corrupting your own children with hate of another group of people in your schools and places of worship. No more seperate but equal Arab neighborhoods in Israel where they openly declare their hatred for the country they live in, you either live here and support the country you live in or get the hell out and live in one of your lovely Arab neighboring countries where you will have no rights and will go back to living in 3rd world conditions. The Arabs and "Palis" will never achive peace with Israel, because even if somehow they gain it today, the next time the current dictator and/or currupt leaders changes in one country, they will ignore past peace agrrements and start up the hate war again.
9. Thanks, PM ABBAS
vitenberg ,   saint-mandé France   (07.17.10)
Thanks, PM Abbas! You spoke about French version of resolution 242 and no one political Isreli man dare saying that the lonely valid and accepted by all parties is written in english. We thought to be more clever (more raham) You were patient and clever but the game is not yet over... J.Vitenberg
10. Abu Mazen, the outgoing has no right to issue any decrees !
Salma ,   Palestine   (07.17.10)
In the end, the National Army of Palestine will control our borders..... IT'S A MATTER OF TIME
11. muslims generally like europeans
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (07.17.10)
europeans are easy to kick around and intimidate and manipulate (just look at UNFIL). of course he wants them between them and israelis.
12. Abbas wants international force !
DT ,   TA Israel   (07.17.10)
Of course he does because he knows that it will be anti Israel and pro him - and terror -especailly if it is made up of the EU
13. international forces
Arni Eisen ,   Bucks County, Pa. US   (07.17.10)
What Abbas and the rest of the world doesn't get ' is that Israel needs border security BECAUSE of the Palestinians and their desire to destroy the Jews. The only people in the world that the Jews can trust to protect each other IS THE JEWS. Nobody cares about Jewish blood except the Jewish. It's a cheap commodity on the world market. There will be NO foreign forces for you to coerce in the land of Israel. Don't hold your breath, or better yet, DO hold your breath.
14. international force
mohson   (07.17.10)
Even with yes we can black liberation obama, abbas- you can take the internaional force and shove it up your rear end. IDF will be present until PLO proves it will be civilized. Forget about olmert concessions. Both sides including you wlll have to make some accomodations. If not, then no peace and forget it. We will leave it as it is now. israel will be making claims for half of jordan which is ancient israeli homeland as is judea and samara.
15. 2-State Solution = Jordan & Israel!
jordan="palestine"   (07.17.10)
16. Jordan is palestine
SM ,   UK   (07.17.10)
Anyone who trusts this corrupt old fatah thug is certifiably stupid or wants to see Israel's destruction. The day the borders are controlled either by the palestinians or by a toothless international force, the bombs and rockets will flood across the border. The palestinians who already have a homeland in Jordan are all recent settlers from neighboring arab states with no historic claim to any part of Israel including Judea and Samaria. Anyone who has fallen for the myth of a palestinian homeland should read Hadrian's Curse – The Invention Of Palestine. Here key arab players like Hafez al Assad, Ahmed Shukari and Yasar Arafat admit in their own words that the 'Palestinian cause' was simply a creation of pan - arabism to destroy Israel. Nothing more and nothing less.
17. Constructive Clarity in Israeli-Palestinian Negotiations
Jehuadah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (07.17.10)
By Beni Begin *) The PLO platform, as reaffirmed in the Fatah Congress in August 2009, states that their struggle will not stop until the Zionist entity is eliminated and Palestine is liberated. As a logical corollary, they refuse to accept Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people. *)This explains why, when Mahmoud Abbas was asked in a Washington Post interview in May 2009 why he had declined Olmert's far-reaching offer, he answered that "the gaps were wide." *)The Palestinian leadership insists that negotiations now start at the point they had reached with Olmert at the end of 2008. That means they are not satisfied with what was put on the table a year ago. They want more than that. *) One cannot expect a plausible, peaceful solution in the foreseeable future unless the PLO leadership changes its mind, heart, and writings. (The full article is found at the site of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and it is highly recommended).
18. international forces like Lebanon!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ROSENVALDb ,   BRASIL   (07.17.10)
Just IDF in Jordan border, in some future peace. We dont whant another 'Gaza" to shot katiuchas in Israel.
19. No. 1
NYC Girl   (07.17.10)
If, as you say, the CIA reports Israel will fall within 20 years, then we may be in more trouble than Israel will be, because it means that the agency that's tasked with maintaining our security is apparently riddled with idiots. Not only that, but this mass migration you seem to be anxiously anticipating overlooks one little problem. The majority of Israelis don't come from the United States or Russia. They come from the Middle East and North Africa. So unless all of those Arab countries are willing to welcome back these Israelis...you'll have to be ready to have them come to America.
20. Brod - Antidisestablishmentinterianism
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (07.17.10)
You left out one of your isms
21. Abbas Wants Sovereignty
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (07.17.10)
Abbas thinks recognizing the conquests up to 1967 is a big concession. He also wants Palestine to be sovereign. Obviously this is too much for the majority of talkbackers. If it turns out to be too much for Israeli politicians, you will get to enjoy a single Arab-majority state. Palestinians won't disappear in a puff of smoke or move for your accommodation.
22. Yes to an international force!
Daniel ,   TA   (07.17.10)
I think Abu Mazen is right. An international force is definitely required. The force needs to be on the Palestinian side of the final border between Israel and the new Arab state. That makes will make it the 22nd Arab state compared to the single Jewish state in the world. The reason for the international force would be to help prevent the still stated desire of the majority of the Arab states to wipe Israel from the map. IDF on the Israel side of the new border and an International force on the other side may...just may help prevent yet another war. As for where those borders should be Abu Mazen needs to buy a ticket on a clue train if he thinks Israel should revert to the pre-1967 borders. He and his people have no legal claim to that land. Jordan might have but they gave that claim up. Abu Mazen has to stop whining that his people are victims of Israel and face the reality that his people started the fight and lost. That does not give them the right to dictate terms. It gives Israel that right and so far Israel has been pretty darn nice about returning land. Being greedy wont help the situation or the peace process.
23. Provocative
Dov ,   USA   (07.17.10)
It is obvious that Abass wants to turn back the clock when Palestinians/Jordanians were living in worse squalor beyond the 1967 borders. Palestinians/Jordanians treated Jerusalem as if it were a garbage dump. There are phoos to prove it. What lives today cannot be unborn Abass
24. sure he does!
tom ,   toronto, canada   (07.17.10)
based on every single experience, an international force only obstructs idf operations and collaborates with arab terrorists. unifil is a perfect example, whether as a supplier of arms and vehicles to hezbollah, or as cover for their operations, such as the abduction of israeli soldiers by terrorists wearing un uniforms, or unifil threats to fire on israeli reconnaissance aircraft trying to monitor hezbollah violations. but as aggressive as they are towards israel, they are impotent to enforce security council resolutions to disarm hezbollah, or to stop hezbollah war crimes against israeli civilians. sure, abbas would love to have such an international force protecting his fatah terrorists.
25. Israel was forced upon Palesinians
Ann   (07.17.10)
Time to force Palestine upon Israelis, nothing else would work. Peace for Palestine and Israel.
26. Bet ya didn't know the CIA secret HQ is in Silver Bay
Brian Cohen ,   Judean PeoplesFront   (07.17.10)
And all this time we thought it was in Frostibite Falls! Gosh, thanks for the classified security debrief, Director Benassi. For those non-Hebrew speakers out there, Benassi could translate from Hebrew as "son of my ass".... ...so we'll take Steve "Benassi" at, um, his word...
27. #19 they are welcome back
observer   (07.17.10)
28. Do some people rally take this charade seriously
P.I   (07.17.10)
Once every four years the Israelis and Palestinians do a peace play inspired by the American president. If American presidents didn't push for this play then it would not happen. The American presidents have no real hope for peace, but if they did not produce the play then this would be graphic eveidence that they did not support peace. They don't want this. The president does his thing, and the Israelis and the Palestinians do their thing, and then it is over until next time. This part is easy to understand. What is not so easy to understand is why anybody thinks that this is serious stuff which can lead to peace. It is all make believe. This is how Bibi and his extremist right wing government can be viewed as peace seekers. This is how Abbas, who represents nobody, can speak for the Palestinians. This is how Hamas, who is Israels major opponent, can be ignored.. It is all pretend and meant to lead nowhere.
29. Even the Golden Calf loves Israel & Israelis
Brod ,   USA   (07.17.10)
30. Direct Talks
Steven ,   L.A USA   (07.17.10)
Here are two scenarios of what will happen: 1) The Palestinians will wait until the meeting of the Arab League in late July where the League will give the go ahead for direct talks and the Palestinians can say that they held out for their principles but will go ahead because of the League decision. 2) The Palestinians will stick to their demands and direct talks will never happen. The Palestinians have always been under the illusion that what they demand matters, but the truth is that it really doesn't. Israel is capable and willing to continue the status quo for the next sixty years. Whether or not direct talks occur doesn't really matter. In either of these scenarios, Israel wins.
