having grown up in England I agree almost totally with President Peres remarks .Having grown up and gone to school and university outside one of the large jewish blocks as an 'isolated' family I had almost daily reminders of anti semitism. Peres has got it right and I say this with shame. I'm not Jewish, I'm British and Christian - and I know my own country. Those in denial will cite pluralism and tolerance but their case doesn't hold water. Cloaked in the more socially acceptable political/humanitarian euphemisms anti-Israelism or anti-Zionism it doesn't much effort on the part of a honest individual to see the basis of subsequent comments. Criticism of Israel, like that of any other nation, is quite normal as long as it is comparative, contextual, and fair. However, when the Jewish nation is the only party criticized for faults, often obsessively, that are far worse among other peoples, then such criticism crosses the line from being acceptable to being blatantly anti-Semitic. Even a blind man can see that Israel is singled out for special treatment and our leaders are obsessed with appeasing the Arab/Islamic world for their own interests. According to a survey published last week in the Jewish Chronicle most of British Jews ( 71%) are happy in Britain.
