61. #15, how did you work that one out?
Danny   (08.01.10)
62. #34, not true
Danny   (08.01.10)
The Brits financed and armed Egypt, Iraq and Jordan. They officered and actively fought on the side of the Jordanians. They imposed a ban on arms into Israel and held back 150,000 future Israelis until after the war. The last 3 people killed in Jan 1949 were 3 RAF peoples after the UK invoked a mutual protection treaty with Egypt and threatened to strike Israel directly if they didn't pull out of the Sinai. Not exactly nothing...
63. " The Queen and I "
sylvio   (08.01.10)
Got it first hand. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth has ordered a 'burqa' for her next trip to the Middle East , and it's not going to be Israel. She doesn't even speak Hebrew ... !
64. #25 Disconnected Jews Vote with Feet
David Aarons ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.01.10)
Any one who follows the Israelis who "vote with their Feet "and go to U.K or Berlin etc are those who themselves and their families long ago renounced any connection to Jewish Civilization the usual suspects Kibbutzniks and Tel Aviv Haifa crowds & sadly are some of the most vocally anti Israel & willingly let themselves be used by the local antisemites its a sad but old story
65. Unrecognisable description
Ola ,   London UK   (08.01.10)
To say that England is anti-Semitic is an inaccurate description of the country. England is at the forefront of minority rights protection and has strong legislation enforcing such rights. The leader of opposition is Jewish, our Jewish community fully participate in all aspects of national life, opposition to Israeli policies is not the same as anti-Semitism and Peres is wrong if he equates the two. As a matter of principle the recent Ashkenazi/Sephardic school row indicates that England is miles ahead of Israel in terms of minority protection.
66. South Africa too - well said Shimon
Russ ,   Tlv   (08.01.10)
67. OTT
op   (08.01.10)
Israeli extremism is evident from top to bottom. It doesn't make much diiference to the UK - it's just another sign that Israel has no diplomatic credibilty left and has to resort to silly name calling. From last collection of figures anti-semitism was evident in less than 1% of all hate crime in the UK
68. Mr Peres is absolutely correct
Neil Turner ,   Watford, UK   (08.01.10)
I wonder why it has taken an Israeli politician so long to state what everyone knows to be true ? The UK is anti-semitic / pro-Muslim to its core, and has been since the 1930's. Mr Peres is right to state that many UK MP's need Muslim votes. My country (inc all political parties, the media, and universities) now puts Muslims first, Jews and Christians last. However, many Christian Zionists in the UK like myself support Israel, so please do not assume that all in the UK are your enemies.
69. How Refreshing!!!
Ronen Newmark ,   Atlanta, USA   (08.01.10)
I cannot believe you just said San Remo! If people today actually knew what that term means and actually studied the history no one would have a leg to stand on when they hold posters reading "Free Free Palestine". The problem has and always will be is education of history. Everything Anti Israel desperately relies on the fact that people are too lured into paying attention to the emotion on poster-boards, and not logically reading documented historical facts. It's time that the educated pull out their weapons, weapons being the history books not written by a Jew or Muslim, so no one can ever say the data is bias.
70. In his old age
Arie ,   BaGolan   (08.01.10)
Peres is finally having an honest vision.
71. UK Media is definately Anti-Israel
Tony ,   Hazelpark, USA   (08.01.10)
If the media is any indication, the UK is definately anti-Israel. I came to that conclusion long ago. I was surprized by the revelation, but if one follows news of the middle east, the UK leads the rest of Europe in a negative portrayal of Israel. I have no doubt that this is true.
72. Historically accurate
Christopher ,   Boston, MASS   (08.01.10)
During the Holocaust, the Brits purposely sunk shiploads of Jewish refugees escaping Nazism killing thousands; in 1938, the Brit Parliament ordered the banning of any Jewish refugees from entering any "Empire" country; the Brits purposely abstained during the UN vote on partition; the Brits did everything in their power to keep Israel from getting weaponry to protect the State against the onslaught of neo-Naze Islamic states; the Brits stole Israeli money by not delivering Centurion tanks already paid for under orders from the Saudis; the current Brit government attacks Israel in order to divert attention from the revelations of Brit led massacres of thousands of civilians in Afghanistan and Pakistan; the list goes on and on! http://www.honestreporting.co.uk/articles/critiques/Littlejohn_C4_Documentary_Takes_On_Anti-Semitism.asp
73. No. 64 Disconnected Jews
David ,   UK   (08.01.10)
Broad generalisations are rarely accurate or helpful and often indicate a closed mind. There are thousands of Israelis in the UK. Many have nothing to do with the established Jewish community but many send their children to the blossoming network of Jewish schools, most of which are financed as you may know by the state. Aliyah from the UK since 1948 has never been more than a trickle and these days is almost completely confined to the orthodox and ultra orthodox and people wishing to retire in the sun on their UK pension. As I said originally this in itself speaks volumes. Actions so often speak louder than words. Jewish people encounter some hostility from time to time in the UK as do other minority communities, especially Muslims, but on the whole life is good and Jewish people are prominent in the middle and higher echelons of society, the economy (especially the professions, medicine and the law), and the universities. Israeli Jews cope with the venomous hostility of their neighbours, both within and outside its borders, by living in Jewish ghettos, wholly Jewish neighbourhoods, wholly Jewish schools, very often wholly Jewish places of work, almost no social interaction with Israeli non-Jews be they Muslim or Christian. This only serves to give Jewish Israelis a false sense of security. The place where hatred of Jews is worst is in Israel but Israelis behind their self imposed "ghetto walls" pretend it does not exist.
74. Just Look at the 10 and 11 aricles of the magna carta
Rick ,   Free Jew in Israel   (08.01.10)
* (10) If anyone who has borrowed a sum of money from Jews dies before the debt has been repaid, his heir shall pay no interest on the debt for so long as he remains under age, irrespective of whom he holds his lands. If such a debt falls into the hands of the Crown, it will take nothing except the principal sum specified in the bond. * (11) If a man dies owing money to Jews, his wife may have her dower and pay nothing towards the debt from it. If he leaves children that are under age, their needs may also be provided for on a scale appropriate to the size of his holding of lands. The debt is to be paid out of the residue, reserving the service due to his feudal lords. Debts owed to persons other than Jews are to be dealt with similarly.
75. Not so great Britain anymore
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.01.10)
Not so great Britain anymore, is not only Anti Israel it is also anti Britain, the nation that gave humanity the Magna Karta is sliding toward Sharia law,Where is Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher of today ?,to save England and the world.
76. 57 , Sid . Read correctly if you can !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.01.10)
My 43 was a reaction to # 25 . Read it and then comment . OK ?
77. More talkbacks on this than when NYC synagogues foiled bomba
Will Hertz ,   London   (08.01.10)
What is with you people?
78. Brits won't forget Stacey solomon, she only came 2nd/million
Stacey lover ,   Dagenham   (08.01.10)
She almost won a reality tv show, always on the so called anti semetic media with her magen David jewellry, she loved her judasiam and alway says how proud she is of it. My point if England was so anti semetic, from a popular culture point of view then how did she manage to come second out of millions... I have to also agree with #25 more Israelis move here than british Jews move to israel.. Fact.
79. When telling the British of their anti-Semitism, be sure to
Jonathan   (08.01.10)
do so politely, with a smile - whether you mean it or not - because this is how they will more likely accept your point, by being dishonest.
80. #74 and Magna Carta!!!!
David ,   UK   (08.01.10)
My dear Rick Magna Carta was 1215. Its relevance to day to day life in modern day Britain is close to zero and it is little more than a historical curiosity. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. Incidentally I think you will find in the Tanach (Old Testament) some quite unpleasant things said about gentiles but as Jews we know that this is not a good guide to modern Jewish thought (don't we?). In 2010 such is the state of the anti-racism laws in Britain that many of the vile comments made on a daily basis about Arabs by Jews on this Talkback, published by a supposedly respectable Israeli newspaper, would actually be criminal offences in England if said about Jews. The newspaper would be liable to prosecution for causing racially aggravated harassment alarm or distress. Those who live in glass houses should think very carefully before throwing stones.
81. The Truth Hurts
Eli ,   canada   (08.01.10)
Truth struck a cord with the arrogant brits did it, now? If they are so worried about the pals why are they fighting the same crowd in Iraq and Afghanistan that Israel is up against? Why not just give in entirely to the Muslims and let them have these counrties as well as the capitulation to muslims in the UK which has already happened. Hypocrates!
82. # 8 I like that, UNHOLY TRINITY. Thanks.
Lynne ,   Manchester, UK   (08.01.10)
83. I Was in London...
Yaakov ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.01.10)
and I can say that due to fears of anti-semetic attacks all syngogues are not marked as such i.e. there are no signs identifying syngogues as such!! I wonder why?! Then, of course, England expelled Jews no less than 3 times from England. The crusades... Just read BBC or Guardian articles refering to ISrael. Look a the BBC or SKY news see the anti-Israel bias Look at the actions against Jews and Israel since even the past 80 years. Peres is right and i am surprised he admitted this since it seems he himself is often working against Israel.
84. #79 When telling Americans of their anti semetism be sure to
Jon   (08.01.10)
do it brashly and ask would they like fries with that?
85. #80 You made most sense out of all the talk backs today
Barbra ,   Radlett, UK   (08.01.10)
86. New York Mega mosque 1. London Mega mosque 0
Tal ,   World   (08.01.10)
87. # Wasn't G.B.
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.01.10)
Wikimiki ! No,Not so G.B. anymore, did not consummate the Balfour decleration, instead it issued the white paper limiting Jewish immigration to than Palestine to 80,000, while 7 million Jews were on a death sentence by Germany and its allies, with a little good will England could have opened the doors of it's vast Empire in Asia and Africa for the persecuted Jews, England's foreign office was infested with Antisemites, especially Antony Edan (Mosoliny described him as Europes best dressed fool) who openly admitted that he hates Jews.Historically England was good to the Jews,in the 17 th century it allowd the Jews to return to England under Menashe Ben Israel,England issued a protest to Maria Tereza of Austria for the expulsion of the Jews of Prague,it allows Jews to settle in Gibraltar despite Spain's protestations,England defended English -Morocon Jews against the special tax Muslim Moroco imposed on Jews, things have changed since England fell in love with the Arabs,it's a matter of passion, but it's one sided, the Arabs hate England the Arabs hate the Magna Carta, the Arabs believe only in the Magna Sharia.
88. The British press, e.g. Independent, Guardian, BBC, is
Jacobe Kaplan   (08.01.10)
loaded with anti-Semitism, regardless of these people attempting to present themselves as liberal and progressive. The British universities are institutions in which hating Jews and the Jews' national home, dealing with researching it, promoting it and practicing it. Even in the British government anti-Jewish views prevail in nearly every corner, although mostly among members of parliament of the Labour party and the Liberal Democratic one. Peres simply expressed what all of us, Jews, have noticed and experienced.
89. @ nr.14, NYC Girl
Uncle Andy ,   Netherlands   (08.01.10)
"...because he sure as shit ain't the Pope." You cannot be 100% sure, because he uses a pseudonym, and he doesn't say it happened IN the UK.
90. # 87 Please address yourself to the Unholy Trinity as
Margaret ,   North London   (08.01.10)
explained by poster Jehudah, # 8, if you will. I think he captured reality in today's Britain perfectly, don't you?
