To say that England is anti-Semitic is an inaccurate description of the country. England is at the forefront of minority rights protection and has strong legislation enforcing such rights. The leader of opposition is Jewish, our Jewish community fully participate in all aspects of national life, opposition to Israeli policies is not the same as anti-Semitism and Peres is wrong if he equates the two. As a matter of principle the recent Ashkenazi/Sephardic school row indicates that England is miles ahead of Israel in terms of minority protection.

I cannot believe you just said San Remo! If people today actually knew what that term means and actually studied the history no one would have a leg to stand on when they hold posters reading "Free Free Palestine". The problem has and always will be is education of history. Jewish people encounter some hostility from time to time in the UK as do other minority communities, especially Muslims, but on the whole life is good and Jewish people are prominent in the middle and higher echelons of society, the economy (especially the professions, medicine and the law), and the universities. Israeli Jews cope with the venomous hostility of their neighbours, both within and outside its borders, by living in Jewish ghettos, wholly Jewish neighbourhoods, wholly Jewish schools, very often wholly Jewish places of work, almost no social interaction with Israeli non-Jews be they Muslim or Christian. This only serves to give Jewish Israelis a false sense of security.
