Difficult to believe that a respected newspaper like YNET would refer to Chelsea Clinton, daughter of a former US president, as a 'shiksa'. I think we all know that the meaning of this word is 'abomination' and other similar awful connotations. Would you be offended if you saw a US paper with the headline "Chelsea Clinton and the Yid"? Is it not about time that your sub-editors noticed the abject sneering inherent in the use of some words. It would have been so easy to replace it with "non-Jew" and I feel sure that an experienced journalist such as Yisrael Wolman did not submit his article with the word shiksa in the headline. Shiksa? and even without chelsea this prince has had a life most privileged in world terms. i doubt if he's ever been hungry, done hard physical labour, suffered injustice, etc., etc.. he's also got employment that , if he works to live, will afford him high comfort. in world terms, it's fair to say he could be envied. there is thus no doubt that he had an element of choice, and he chose chelsea clinton. as far as i can estimate his free choice would be because she's best for the job (of being his wife). that no jewish girl got the job, is a reflection upon jewish girls and their inadequacies, as it is generally a mans' world and the men chose to marry, women chose too and consent. this is a, perhaps understandable, relection upon the suitability (looks? attitude? whatever!), of the jewish girls who sought the job, (or who maybe didn't, perhaps because he wasn't rich enough, or had the wrong attitude?). perhaps they expected to get the job because they are jewish? well it doesn't work like that girls. and if internmarriage is so high percentage wise, then jewish girls might find out what jewish boys want and be that. it is obvious that they are not bothering, certainly in the diaspora, and men being men in a free world, will make a free choice.

I don't understand why everyone is so upset about this....I have 4 jewish kids, and they should decide with who they will marry....I couldn't care much about which religion background my kids spouses will have, more important if they are decent , honest people.....can we stop already talking about this wedding....who really cares?????

The answer to stop assimilation is affordble Jewish education. I as a Jew in Los Angeles married to another Jew, cannot afford Jewish schools here. With my middle class salary I don't qualify for a scholarship. I am in the point where I don't make enough to afford it and I make too much to get a scholarship. I know in the case of Marc his parents have enough money to buy several Jewish schools, but what about the middle class Jew who wants their children to have a Jewish identity and can't afford it? If my kids marry a shiksa I will blame the Jewish establishment for not helping to fund their education

I'm an American Jew in my mid seventies, married 49 years to a shiksa. We have two daughters and grandchildren who go to a conservative temple pre school. When I look back at my six closest Jewish boyhood friends, all married Jewish girls, all are divorced and now happily married to shiksas. It's a wonderful world if religion doesn't ruin it for everyone.

Moyshe instituted marriage and the Christian and Jewish Services are directed towards the same priorities. Monogamy, raisingGod fearing children in the family, showing kindness to the less fortunate, and truth, integrity and courage, which sesem in short supply in this generation..and they are aa new unit for the Lords purposes without interference of in-laws on either side! I prefer to have Jewish in laws and Jewish grandchildren . And i have . One of the reasons that we spend thousands of Euros [ converted in today's money ] for a full time 15 year long Jewish education in a Jewish school . The result : we all made Alyah . I think the Rabbinate needs to review its policies about the children of mixed marriages. Most Gentiles who marry Jews aren't that religious or marrying a Jew who didn't convert to their religion would never occur to them. They are mostly secular and don't give a damn about religion. Children of such unions pay more attention to their Jewish blood. They'll say they are part Jewish and part Irish, for example. Treating it more like a nationality or ethnicity than a religion. With these factors, I don't see why the child isn't given a choice to formally be a Jew. I realize the child of a Jewish woman has more latitude, but why write off the child of a Jewish man if the mother doesn't want to convert? The father should be able to sponsor his children to the faith without it being a long, involved process. Especially if the mother does not object. Just a thought.

Bull. In my family we all had our Jewish education in home, and intermarriages were very rare. Actually, the case that comes to mind where there was intermarriage was of a kid who did go to Hebrew School in the afternoon and Jewish Sunday School! Formal Jewish education is not necessary if the home background is providing it.
