I am not a linguist but I guess words are like sponges and apart from their intended objective meaning they are vessels for emotions, either negative or positive. People may try to be politically correct about their language and abandon some words altogether (the N word in English, for example) but the problem is that the Polish word 'Zyd' is, most of the time, a neutral word with no emotions attached to it. It is probably very subtle but what matters is how one says it. The soccer fans are very subtle in this respect, I guess. You may claim it is anti-semitic to attach negative connotations to the word 'Zyd' (although I think it is a strech) and Polish authorities may try to change it by a decree or whatever but this kind of social engineering is not going to work. At least not in Poland. The only way to change it is to prevent very young children from acquiring these negative connotations because once they take hold, it is over.
62. The term "Jew" is used in other tongues too
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.09.10)
in a pejorative way . "he is worse as a Jew" is one of them . Not always meaned to insult someone , but to say that he knows how to do business , better as a Jew . But when it is said in soccer stadiums , it's very often racist . The same as when such "fans" made noise as apes when a player of African origin was on the ball .
63. 46 . Try # 6 !!!
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.09.10)
what i have done and still do ? Look at the tb's i've send regarding you and alikes . Look at my "love" for you and alikes . I have made this tb less harsh , to have it published .
64. I don't feel sorry for Jews living in those types of places
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.10.10)
There is such a thing as having too much hope or faith in humanity, you know. History has shown us that Jews can never full assimilate to matter how hard we try. My Polish "friends" told me not to take it personally but Poles hate everyone not just the Jews. Jews are just the easiest to attack.
65. time after time
Beatrix ,   USA   (08.10.10)
65 years since the end of the war and the slaughter of practically all its Jews, and Poland still hasn't dealt with its antisemitism?
66. Nothing Changes In Poland
Jethro ,   Marquette, MI   (08.10.10)
That is why the jews that weren't murdered left. It will never change there. Europe will be taken over by Arabs and become Eurabia. Then they can sit around and talk about what they all have in common. Hatred.
67. to charles r you ok, it's used as insult to
ghostq   (08.10.10)
describe the person as someone who is cunning in a very negative way, if you heard it in the UK it's probably because brits r racists and not much fond of jews. Tomek is right it's all education and Poles try their very best, more than best to prevent these things, unlike brits, whos price though it was funny to dress himself as Nazi officer, which is obvious in this type of scociety to see it as a joke.
68. polish football hooliganism
moron ,   galut   (08.10.10)
has precedents-jews were expelled from england about 300 years before shalespeare wrote 'merchant of venice'--still a favorite!
69. Martin @ 60, I think you are mistaking.
leo ,   usa   (08.10.10)
Yes, word 'zjid' is derogatory term equal to 'kike', but in Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. In Poland it is equivalent to 'jew'. I am confident that Pols have their own insults for Jews, but I do not think 'zjid' is one of them.
70. I tend to agree with Tomek
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (08.10.10)
It's difficult for some, without having spent time here, to understand the current dynamics of Jewish-Polish relations in Poland which is actually improving. Chief Rabbi of Poland, Michael Schudrich puts it like this..Anti-Semitism here is not as widespread as Poland bashers imagine it to be and more common than Poles think it is. This ugly football behaviour only exacerbates the problem by opening old wounds to the outside world as the killing fields were here. Poland has to work extra hard to tone it down. These numbskulls are into football, beer and fighting. They're able count to 20 with their shoes off. They don't represent Poland but will tarnish the country's image as the world looks on, if allowed to run riot at the Championship
71. NO COMMENTS! WEST OF TIME!

73. media manipulation, no 45 correct
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (08.10.10)
another area where israel seems to have learnt from the free world (lol), and in certain respects improved. techniques include fear mongering (fear sells), appeal to consensus, distraction by nationalism (transfer technique in propaganda-advertising), and in this article, a touch of straw man too. israel is a small country.i think these techniques are more prevalent, and less boticed, in the much larger and more powerful countries from whence they originate. ah the joys...
74. Jewish media lying to excite silly Jews again
DwaMiecze ,   Krakow, Poland   (08.17.10)
1. Nobody dares to walk around with a swastika in Poland as pretty much everybody here lost family to the Nazis. Try it and you can get yourself killed. As in three of my own grandparents lost fighting Nazis, fourth barely made it out of Nazi labor camp. I could not identify the source of the photo with the so called " Jews go to gas chamber fans" but the idiot with the swastika and SS tattoo on his skull is from Florida (you know the US state with most Jews in it where they don't even play soccer much) and not anybody in Poland. See here: http://blogs.reuters.com/oddly-enough/2009/12/09/cant-he-just-wear-a-turtleneck/ How on earth does he become an "Aryan soccer fan" related to article about soccer in Poland? 2. When Polish soccer fans (not the brightest bulbs around) call each other "Jews", it is only because it means the same here as "idiots", "retards" etc, for which you can only blame your fanatics. Reading the posts on this blog I know very well why someone would come up with such an idea. 3. There were no anti-Jewish animosities lately in Poland prior to fanatical Jewish organizations trying to extort "war reparations" from us. On what grounds? Jewish leaders like say Joachim Prinz bent over backwards to bring Hitler to power in Germany, while we fought these cretins from the beginning. 4. The picture with the "fans" most likely portrays Italians or German NPD members. As in, you know, actual NAZI party, with actual descendants of actual Nazis, and not anybody in Poland. Not a single cretin on this picture has Slavic facial features. Which makes one wonder, why would Jews have such a big problem with Poland (where there are no Nazis) and not with Germany. Is it perhaps because Germany allows its money to be extorted while we don't?

This article is full of factual lies. * Arkadiusz Mysona is very little known, even in Poland, he is just one of many players out there, * Stal Rzeszow has never won Polish championship, * in some 90% of Polish football games, there are no racist or antisemitic slogans, * the photo does not show Polish fans, * no Polish mass-media tolerates antisemitism, * there are black footballers in all top teams in Poland, and 99% of fans do not care about the colour of their skin, * NOP members hardly ever come to stadiums, * the game Stal Rzeszow vs Resovia was one of hundreds of games taking place in Poland every weekend. During 99% of those games, no antisemitic incidents took place. Furthermore, Rafal Pankowski is a person whose job is based on finding antisemitism, even where it does not exist. He simply gets his paycheck for it, and the more he talks about non-existent incidents, the more money he gets. I do hope that Israel rabbis will get their courses about the suffering of Polish people during the war and about Christianity as a whole. This should help.

77. In what way are Israelis racist?
paul ,   Toronto Canada   (04.03.11)
I have never seen any racism in Israel for example blacks serve in the IDF and so on and so forth so you need to explain yourself missy

steven ,   new york   (05.21.11)
everyone's being way to quick to judge. Don't let the section of the crowd with neo nazis in them represent ALL pollacks. This is just as erroneous as saying "well there are Muslim terrorists, so anyone who practices Islam surely must be a terrorist". Not true. If you want further reasoning, take it from Russell Peters, who defended the Muslims, saying that terrorists are like the "rednecks of" the middle east. Yeah they're there, but they shouldn't represent the entire group. I'll venture to say everyone has a messed up group of people that can be affiliated to them by race, sex, religion, etc. etc. so don't try attacking someone else when you're exactly the same.
