When my Israeli relative came to visit she marveled at how polite Americans were at our farmer's market. In Israel, she said, people would be pushing and yelling and throwing trash on the ground. "We have no manners," she said sadly. When her children came to live in the US her son in law was rude and obnoxious. After living in the US for some years he has turned into a delightful person - something he would not likely had been had he continued living in Israel.
98. Should be a national campaign, because

there is a problem, although not well written about in this article. We all know there are valid reasons why the tourist centers across the earth are hung with the sign, "No Israelis". Granted a percentage of them are up as a politrical statement more than personal experience hosting Israelis. But nevertheless, Israelis tend to go beyond what is accepted as politely trying to get a great deal. These Israeli kids hitting the road after service and following suit of what is now become the historically true etiquette of the legendary Israeli traveler, proceed to not just be loud and overbearingly self centered, but also cheat merchants and taxis, and others. It is time for the IDF to have an exit program for presenting the national "face" abroad in a good way. Don't believe it will work? Here's a fact: in the early 60's the merchants of England were put on a national campaign (by the tourism division of the government) and asked to be polite and friendly to visitors. It was a huge deal--covered in the US press. It worked and within five years Brittains visitor number increased dramatically. NO ONE believe you could make those people friendly and helpful. As an aside, the Israeli merchant clerks could use this campaign. If you cannot beleive Israelis are rude abroad, then recall how you are treated in Israeli shops. Last year I was in a store in Dizengoff Center and requested the help of a young clerk who ignored me. A few minutes later I nabbed another clerk and voiced my displeasure at receiving no help and asked what the deal was. She poured out her heart. She hated waiting on Israelis because if she asked to help often they would turn on her and accuse her of trying to offend them and force a sale on them. Apparently it is seen as suspicious to be friendly to shoppers. This particular young woman had just returned to live in Israel after living five years in EU and said she was going to return because she couldn't take it after so much polite kindness. To conclude, I wamnt to agree with the poster who is disgusted with the level of filth in TA and camp grounds and parks in Israel. It is very true that many parts of Israel are shockingly filthy. It is amazing to visit a park on a holiday and watch thousands of Israelis get up at the days end and walk away from mountains of picnicing and BBQ garbage, get in their cars and drive away leaving tons of wet trash behind. I often wander what Israelis think when they visit then pristinely clean parks of North America. There really does need to be an adjustment in the national frame of mind of how the world's indiviiduals view Israel through behavior. Israelis can no longer get away with the "they hate and misunderstand us, so we get to be selfish because THEY misjudge our country.." National pride means more than being self righteously indignant on a personal level.
99. Nothing has changed
Truthseeker ,   USA   (08.29.10)
Back in the late 1940s my parents entertained one of Israeli consulate generals who spent two nights at our house. The bathroom and the bedroom in which he slept were a total disaster. My mother vowed that never again would an Israeli spend a night in our home. Looks like nothing has changed with Israelis.
100. Israelis are great

I hope that the Israelis never adopt the superficial good manners of the western world. Keep throwing towels on the floor, there's nothing wrong with it.

Ha! When I was staying in a hotel in Rome, it had holes in shower cabin, so I stepped out into a pool of water and almost broke my neck; the towel fell down and I had to dry myself with a small corner that stayed dry. Well, when I came back in the evening there was the same pond and same wet towel in it. The bed was re-made however.
