This article states that Israel has that capacity if it came to it. You leave Israel alone and stop trying to provoke it into wars and Israel will try and make peace with Lebanon you want war though Israel will leave Lebanon with an army of dead bodies. Every country has the right to be able to defend itself, which Lebanon currently can not. Since S-300/400 system is defense only this article makes the best case so far that Lebanon needs a good air defense system like the newer S-300. It was undoubtedly a screw up but that was for alot of reasons and all of them the Israeli politicians not because we were up against a superior army. Olmert tied the hands of the IDF because he kept talking about reasonable force and did not say this is war do what must be done. Olmert, Peretz, Livni & Halutz were trying to micromanage the war from their air conditioned offices and were not interested in anything that the officers in Lebanon were saying they needed. The soldiers kept saying we need more infantry but up until the very last days Dan Halutz agreed to give it because he was personally convinced the war could be won with airpower so no need for more infantry. Thanks to years of almost annual cuts in the military budget the IDF was not ready for a full scale war. The armor on the Merkava 2 tanks kept in reserve was not kept updated to counter modern anti tank missiles. The IDF might buy a new tank but they would not spend a little bit extra to buy a system to protect those expensive tanks from anti tank rockets. Reserves were not being called up for training and some of them it was so long since they had been called up they forgot their skills learned. This was all because the army was trying to save money they needed but were not getting because the politicians saw them just as glorified anti terror force which didn't need the same money as an army. If there is 1 thing Barak has done well is he has finally spent a money on upgrading the IDF and reserves are being called up again for training. The IDF have learned from their mistakes what will decide if they win or lose a war in future is the politicians. If the politicians say you guys are the experts and the ones and we will back you we will win it but if they want to micromanage things and say we know best then we will lose. Israel have a means to distroy Egypt in only one bobm.. it could distroy Syria with no effort at all. Lebanon is no function.. Israel did not use it's massive force since it did not wan't the UN on it's head... But if Lebanon will give her a legit reason such as in the last time, it could and will destroy it's army.
