61. To 51 I guess you conviently forgot how Siniora cried
The Dude   (08.27.10)
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3287703,00.html "During his speech before Arab foreign ministers, Siniora breaks into tears twice" "Such boasting should be put into context as we recall that Israel could not destroy Hizbollah during the last conflict " Except that we had chosen we could have completely destroyed the country and be done with it... "Israel has never been able to destroy Hamas even though Hamas is a relatively small organization trapped in the Gaza Strip" You are now confusing inability with choosing not too. The fact was that in 2009 Israel could have destroyed Hamas. It supposedly rumored that Galant wanted to go with this more aggressive strategy but, Barak axed that and along with Obama demanding an distracted coronation prematurely ended the military operation. But the fact was that Cast Lead on a tactical level was a complete Israeli victory, Hamas was incapable of doing anything. Israel had complete air, sea, and ground superiority, and when ever Israel confronted Hamas, even when Hamas ambushed and was in a favored position, lost out heavily. "Sure Israel ‘could’ destroy known Lebanese army's bases etc but it will never destroy the will to resist Israel’s mindless aggression nor the ability for Lebanon to rain down thousands of missiles on Israel. " Yea, lets wait till the next war to see who talks big. Also don't forget even in this botched operation of 2006, Siniora was in tears, Nasrallah is STILL in hiding, and Lebanon is rebuilding and on the cusp of a civil war. Lebanon is not in a strong position to try to this. "Let Israel blow its own trumpet as it will never act upon such bragging without suffering a huge cost. " Actually it was the US that informed the Lebanese and officially warned them. Israel never officially declared it could destroy the Lebanese Army in 4 hours. Israel has only threatened harsh reprisals. So it seems that much of the bragging still comes from the Arab side. And it's been SOO successful! Just look another Hizb'allah victory like 2006 and Afghanistan will be sending aid to Lebanon.
62. Just try
Rami ,   Lebanon   (08.27.10)
The Lebanese will never submit to Israel. Btw those who are sying "jihadists" 40% on the Lebanese in Lebanon are Christian and the army is under the control of the Christian general and Christian president. We're digusted to even have you as our neighbors.
63. #26 - actually, the Torah does not say that
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
64. #48 - yeah, IDF doesn't get good coverage on Al-Jazeera
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
Hence, you wouldn't have a good picture of the army. Surgical precision in Gaza? Let's see - who to believe, Al-Jazeera and Hamas or Col. Kemp from NATO who admitted the IDF did a great job in a tough situation where terrorists used civilians and civilian infrastructure to hide behind. 1000 dead terrorists can't be wrong! The way the IDF treats prisoners? So, an IDF soldier pictured next to terrorists, while providing them with food, water, and red cross visits is harsher than torture in ALL Arab countries of prisoners, huh? Mossad in Dubai? Still hasn't been proven even though speculation seems to equal fact in your eyes. Innocent unless proven guilty - isn't that how Canadian justice works? Seems like an Apartheid system if it works for all, except Israel, huh? The flotilla event was actually quite successful, which the BBC even agreed with - and they HATE Israel. And the goal was met - all future flotillas develop a "problem" at the last minute and get cancelled. Hell - I LOVE these IDF "failures", don't you??
65. #51 - Where is LAF army bases? Where is Hizbullah's??
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
That will answer your "inconsistency" problem. LAF bases are in open areas, used for military operations. Hizbullah bases are underground, in civilian areas, with weapons and fighters sitting in civilian homes. Which one do you think will take 4 hours to hit?
66. #62 - Christians killed Pals in Shantilla-Sabra
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
Today, the same army that is "run by Christians" is also under threat from Hizbullah (or haven't you been paying attention) and under pressure from PM who is Pro-Syria. As my stock broker says - "past returns does not guarantee future returns" - in other words, the LAF of yesterday is not necessarily the responsible LAF of tomorrow. Since you welcomed Arafat into your country to attack Israel and accepted an Iran-supported terrorist group to unilaterally attack your neighbor and kill your PM, you pretty much deserve whatever you get.
67. Number 61
Pini ,   USA   (08.27.10)
couldnt have said it better
68. warning
colin   (08.27.10)
Lebenon was spared only because of yje cowardly groveling back stabbing defence minister Barak The future wiil get rid of this idiotic coward and Lebenon will feel the wrath of Israel No anti Israel anti semetic UN or EU or USA will stop the explosion The IDF will protect the country of Israel
69. to # 3 Andrew Brehm
joe ,   kfar saba israel   (08.27.10)
at least when u have to defend our country as an army we do not use human shields we do not hide like rats as hezbolla does ,we do not fight as a terrorist organization , we do not pile up missiles in every city and we do not call to the lebanon destruction ! keep ur anger and antisemitism deep where it fits you best ...
70. Rami from Lebanon
(08.27.10)
Israel don't want any conflict with Lebanon or any other Arab countries. Israel would be very good neighbour if the Arabs would make REAL PEACE with the JEWISH STATE ISRAEL.What the Muslim and Arabs world want from us JEWS.Israel with the west bank and Jerusalem is JEWISH LAND for thousands of years.Check with Islamic Koran and Christians Bible. It is disgusting that the Muslim/Arab world teaching a young child of 3-4 years old hatred towards the JEWS and to let a boy of 3-4 with a real gun. and to teach him how to kill Jew or infidel. I can see your hatred towards us.
71. Unit of measurement
Marius ,   Romania   (08.27.10)
I heard about the turkish forces the same thing for the israel army. So they can destroy the entire israel army in maximum 4 hours. I think its logically correct.
72. To Gregory of Montreal
Golani ,   Northern, Israel   (08.27.10)
The successful operations and missions will never be known outside of the “unit”. Believe me, we have multiple successful missions day after day. It is better if they are not known. Some of what you refer to as failures are perhaps what we want outsiders to know for many reasons. Why was Dubai not a success? The target was taken out, and rightfully so. That operation has saved countless lives. Kol ha kavod to those involved and be safe and continue with success.
73. #4-#5 - Lebanese Hubris
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
When did Hizbullah ever fight directly with the IDF? You don't remember the thousands of civilians they hid behind in S. Lebanon, including those they forced to return home as they were fleeing northward in their cars? How about all of the homes that are currently stocked with weapons today? If this is a ""direct fight" then perhaps you need to read about historical battles where only ARMIES met on the battlefield. I remember the war vividly. The IDF DID capture Maroon al Ras but after gutting the command center there and bringing the equipment home, there wasn't much reason to keep it. I also remember the capture of Hizbullah agents right from their command center in Baaka Valley by an elite IDF crew that arrived by helicopter. In today's war, digging in to one location isn't optimal when flexibility of operations is an option.
74. #8 - you cannot defeat an ideology
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
even though 1000 Hizbullah terrorists bit the dust in 34 days, along with all long-range and medium-range rockets, command centers, and underground bunkers. The bar for the IDF by your ilk is extremely high (completely destroy a guerrilla movement), while the bar for Hizbullah is extremely low (Nasrallah survives while staying at Assad's palace). Not exactly a fair comparison.
75. LAF is in a tough spot now
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
On one hand, the LAF is becoming more of a puppet of the Hizbullah terrorist regime, and on the other hand if it acts against Israel it can be destroyed quickly. So, the question remains for LAF generals - obey Nasrallah and provoke the IDF into an action that would destroy the LAF which allows Hizbullah to take total control of Lebanon, or go back to nationalistic roots and be the ONLY legitimate military in Lebanon thus provoking violence on the streets of Lebanon from Hizbullah?? That's a tough call. Since the govt is leaning towards Syria and Iran, and Jamblatt sold his soul to Assad, the LAF is slightly alone.
76. #22 - just proves - you don't need to be Arab...
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
to adhere to space-cadet conspiracy theories. It was the US, not Israel, that made this "threat" to the LAF. And it was Arabs, not Israel, that always launched first attack since 1920. When Arab racism and desire for hegemony ends, the world will see peace.
77. #31 - Your memory seems subjective
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
The reason the IDF left Lebanon in 2000 was two-fold... 1) IDF mothers are a force to be reckoned with and put immense pressure on Barak to pull out. I would even say that Nasrallah would buckle under these women if confronted. 2) Barak is from the Leftist-peace camp, and in 2000 talks with "Palestinians" were going well and Syria was showing signs of a peace agreement. Like Gaza in 2005, the belief was if the IDF left Lebanon, it would give the foundation for Arabs to make peace and drop excuses. Sadly, that belief is just as failed as the belief that Arabs will defeat Israel. After 80 years of Arab violence and racism, no reason to believe otherwise. In 1948 - didn't Israel kick YOUR ass and provided you with (currently) 2 million day laborers? Enjoy.
78. #41 - "it will not shift regional balance of power"
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
This is where you're wrong! If the purpose of such weapons was defensive-only, like Israel's, then a stalemate would be optimal. In the past 90 years, the Arabs have always initiated war, and specifically Hizbullah has several times in the past decade - usually to lay cover for Iran on the Intl stage. Since Israel was never the aggressor, any Arab having advanced weapons would only bring war closer in the future.
79. Israel couldn't destroy Hamas in 4 decades
Bama   (08.27.10)
becasue Israel just don't have the balls when it could do it in 4 minutes. Israel just too afraaid of Hussein Obama, the Muslim protector.
80. @51: please learn to read
al-kafir al-yahudi ,   usa   (08.27.10)
try reading the article. it said that the US envoy's advisor uttered these words. it was not a boast by israel or any israel-affiliated group. on top of that, this was reported to have happened by a lebanese paper. so, either the paper is lying or telling the truth. if you believe it is telling the truth, then you would have figured out (by reading) who made the claim. also, please describe in detail israel's "aggression" towards lebanon. in 2006, hezbollah crossed the border and killed/captured israeli soldiers. in 2010, the lebanese army killed an israeli when israel didn't cross the border. stop with the mindless propaganda.
81. #62
Jane   (08.27.10)
You get disgusted about the wrong things, Rami. Now Nasrallah's something to get disgusted about. Us? Not so much.
82. to Sarah B. and # 59
Asad ,   Beirut, Lebanon   (08.27.10)
you guys have to understand israel is a paper tiger. IAF/IDF are weak as *#%&! lol did u see what happend to them in the ground war in 06..lol ill tell you it wasnt pretty. your weak army couldnt launch a ground invasion of gaza llet alone ur talking about invading south lebanon? as far as the iaf goes bring it on!!ill be ready lol!!o and last thing, watch out for our 100000 missiles. lolz
83. Resistance!!!
Asad ,   Beirut, Lebanon   (08.27.10)
Everybody knows the Resistance, which kicked the IDF's rear end in 2006, & expelled the occupation, provided the Lebanese deterrence. Especially so now that it has an anti-aircraft dimension. Bring it on.
84. ISREAL
ZT ,   ME   (08.27.10)
Ye folks.reckon they r capable of doin` that in less than 4 hours. but they r patient and tolerate.they r against all odds in History. they r small and tiny.they r pity and mercy they know how to forgive. But please don`t push them hard becouse they can come as angels send from the LORD swift fast and mighty. They hold and use accurate precised tools talently designed. they r learning from mistakes.they r waiting and wacthin`. they got the time on there own side.they r busy in buildin` their land and country.
85. Commenters on #2
Peter ,   Lebanon   (08.27.10)
To all of you who are bashing #2 for his comments that Israel will wipe Lebanon off the map should go watch what Ehud Barak said on CNN a few months ago. He said that Israel will not chase after individual Hizballah members, but after everything under the Lebanese Government. You guys did this in 2006 when you hit schools, factories, hospitals, roads, highways, bridges, airport runways, fuel tanks. You guys also said this when you came out with the "Dahiyeh Doctrine" in which the IDF will implement a plan to wipe out entire villages that are the sources of rocket fire. So maybe it's YOU guys that need to read a thing or two about what your leaders have said. And for you guys to think that you will ever destroy the Lebanese Army in 4 hours or even 2 hours are severely dillusional, for as Nasrallah said "the Israeli hand that targets the Lebanese Army, WILL be cut off!" If Hizballah does have Ati-Aircraft weapons, Israel will be the ones begging to Lebanon for mercy and not the other way around. We all know your leaders want to kick Arabs out of Israel by force and even others who want to set up settlements in Lebanon in order to steal our water and set up "greater Israel" but as long as there is blood running in our veins this will NEVER happen.
86. #2
Naomi ,   Montreal, Canada   (08.27.10)
Everyone in the world would fight back if someone attacks his family, or country. Only Israel "should allow" herself to be destroyed, because when Israel fights back, she is showing 'aggression'. That's the logic of the anti-semite. To them, a good Jew is a dead Jew.
87. iraq
Alex   (08.27.10)
Very impressive.... All we need to do is to forget that US destroyed iraqi army, kicked out iraqi police an secret services, hanged iraqi political leadership, than trained new iraqi army, trained new iraqi police, made sure there is a friendly government in Baghdad... And when we forged all of this, than we can admit, yes, US lost in Iraq :-))))

Belal ,   atlanta USA   (08.27.10)
ha ha ha, what do u mean IDF pulled out of maron el ras, Isreal never occupy a place and leave vulenterily. let me tell you this, in those villlages hizbullah was fully prepaired and dug, tunnels connecting houses every where, they sting IDS soldiers, they came out from no where and hit soldiers, IDF is not used to this, they didnt even know where the enemy is, that is why IDF pulled out, that is the truth why IDF never was able to occupy any parts of south lebanon, except may be some rural area, even there couldnt keep ground. admit it.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.27.10)
Israel can turn Lebanon into a glowing cinder pretty much whenever it wants. LOL! How funny is that? LOL!
90. To: Alex at No. 87
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.27.10)
The instant the last U.S. soldier leaves Iraq, all hell will break loose. And the government in Baghdad? Not so friendly. Is that your idea of victory? What about Afghanistan? The Taliban has re-emerged, and has spread its wings into Waziristan and parts of Pakistan. Some victory there, too, eh? U.S. actions in Afghanistan and Iraq are making the Vietnam show look like a resounding American victory. Don't kid yourself. Next to blow up will be Yemen. The United States entered a big mess and is leaving behind an even bigger one.
