31. Recognize? Free Gilad Shalit!
Jethro ,   Marquette, MI   (09.21.10)
Who cares if they recognize. It exists whether they recognize it or not. This is just a strategy for the palestinians to get something for nothing. They can agree to recognize it but it means nothing. The negotiations should concentrate on getting Gilad Shalit freed!
32. Palestinians??
RubyH ,   SA   (09.21.10)
yes Israel is a Jewish State - like it or not Pamela - but why is Bibi talking to someone who claims to be the head of the so called Palestinians? The man is an American puppet and whatever he signs Hamas will overrule and annul. I say - go back to the legal beginning at San Remo and call these monkeys what they really are - Arabs.
33. Pamela #5 I take you are a total moron
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.21.10)
How is that we treat non-Jews as second class citizens? Name one single law. And for the record yes Iraq does demand to be recognized as a Muslim country as do all 56 Muslim states. If you don't like it then take a flying leap along with the terrorist Abbas
34. Promised Land
Daniel ,   Miami   (09.21.10)
Do we really care what Palestinian's call Israel? God gave us the Land. It is the Promised Land to His Chosen People. It really is that simple. We just have to remember what we were chosen for: to be a light unto the nations. To be an example of morality for others to follow. When we finally wake up and fulfill our role, than we won't have to ask others to accept us... they will be the ones asking us.
35. Pamela #5 USA
Steve   (09.21.10)
How much US territory are you willing to give back to her 'rightful' American Indian and Mexican owners? Will you give North, South Carlolina and Georgia to the Cherokee and Creek Indians? Alabama and Mississippi? Florida to the Seminoles? How about giving Texas and California back to Mexico? Will you return the Black Hills to the Lakotah Sioux Indians from whom it was taken? How many American Indian states will you establish in North America?
36. PERFECT, IT IS DONE
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (09.21.10)
Israel is accepted as a Jewish state...not that it needed anyone's approval...I find the very idea that somehow Israel needs outside approval, to be what it is disrespectful. But, it is important that the Arabs acknowledge that fact for peace. So we can move on, and Arabs relinquish all rights to violent struggle against Israel. In addition, the harshest penalties must be in place for any Arab violations, or it will not work.
37. Palestinians still want to destroy Israel
Jacob Blues ,   New York City, USA   (09.21.10)
Barely 24 hours after we read that the Palestinian Authority reaffirms a so-called legal system where selling land to Jews is a capital offense -- and is demanding a 23rd Arab state which would be ethnically cleansed of all Jews, living and dead, we see that they still cannot stomach the idea of an independent Jewish state. Tell Abu Mazen to shove off and if he wants to live so badly in a Jew Free Arab state where they can kill any citizen who would sell land to a Jew, there is a state that already has all that and its called the Kingdom of Jordan!
38. To: No. 5
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.21.10)
Oh, you idiot! Second-class citizens? I guess that would be why the Arabs enjoy all the rights of citizenship, but nowhere near half of the obligations, would that be it? Shut up, get an education and then contemplate coming back here. You're way too stupid to be posting now, mameleh!
39. Oh, and you can call it ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.21.10)
... whatever you want, until the cows come home! Doesn't quite make it so, does it, loser? Six wars. Over sixty years of unrelenting terror. The ONLY thing you can call yourself is "loser." And prepare to pay the consequences ..... loser.
40. :: Abu Babu Mazen means it fondly
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.21.10)
Like the Islamic Arab Empire extending from the Atlantic Ocean to the Persian Gulf and from the Horn of Africa to the Taurus Mountains. Jews have to be pleased with such wishes coming to them from Abu Babu. Does he really have a son named Mazen Ibn Mahmoud?
41. national identity: Jewish
Arab   (09.21.10)
I agree the national identity of Israel is Jewish and should be recognized by arab states as that. Jewish does not necessarily mean a religion, it can mean a culture, or a language. Like Arab, or French, or German. You can even have Jewish Muslims, or Jewish Christians or Jewish Arabs... Jewish is really broad.
42. RE: Pamela "Jewish" state
Yuri   (09.21.10)
Interesting that you mentioned Iraq. No, it does not seek to be recognized as a Muslim country, because they took care of any demographic challenge to such a definition in practice, during the middle of the 20th century: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraqi_Jews#Modern_Iraq_.281918_to_the_present.29
43. #5 "Excluding non-Jews" stop projecting
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (09.21.10)
The Palestinian state already excludes Jews by demanding that all territory turned over to them must be ethnically cleansed of Jews. The Palestinian state has the DEATH PENALTY for anyone who sells land to Jews. And you have the chutzpah to complain about a "Jewish" state in Israel?
44. Hamas just might be right..............
Cali Cal ,   Los Angeles, USA   (09.21.10)
negotiations will lead to nothing, Abbas recognize this and do whats right for his people. No country has negotiated its way to freedom, they won their freedom through war. Cheers.
45. For "Palestinian" #1
Brant ,   Hilton Head USA   (09.21.10)
Yes, dear one, but the problem is that your grandfathers' homes were built on the ruins of the Jews; great, great, great, great, great, Grandfathers' homes. History does not begin where and when YOU want it to. The Jiewish history of Israel predates what the Romans (not Jews or Arabs) renamed as "Palaestina".
46. Re 5. "Jewish" State?
Galut ,   selah   (09.21.10)
Quote: "SO YOU CAN EXCLUDE NON-JEWS. " ----you should go to any Islamic governed country and view the exclusions they have in place.... I suspect in isreal there is by far more concideration given to its palistinian citizens than those in islamic countries when non muslims are concidered second class.... in suadi arabia public practice of any other faith is forbiden. and it is against the law to build a church or synagouge... convert to another faith .... the penalty is death.... don't criticize Israel till you understand the onesided culture that surounds them
47. Recognition as jewish state is critical
Kev ,   Reno, USA   (09.21.10)
It is extremely critical the Israel be recognized as the national state of the Jewish people. After the persecution of the Jewish people for the past few thousand years, it is absolutely essential that the Jewish people have their own homeland where they can live free, determine their own destiny and provide a safe haven for their people from those who seem to want their destruction. (that would be Iran, Syria, islamic terrorists and most of the Arab cultures) It has nothing to do with excluding anyone. It has everything to do with protecting Jews from an blood-thirsty, anti-semitic, and hateful world that is bent on their destruction. G_D Bless Israel!
48. to #1
American Israeli   (09.21.10)
really? so muslims didnt build all of their countries in the middle east over everyone else's grandfathers homes? learn your history! you came from the arabian peninsula
49. #5
Joe ,   Canada   (09.21.10)
"Jewish" is both a race and religion. The race side of the equation is being settled scientifically as Jews have "common genetic threads" regardless of cultural differences due to various areas of habitation. For more see http://www.newsweek.com/2010/06/03/the-dna-of-abraham-s-children.html This pertains to your political question of retaining the "Jewish character" of a state. Without it, the protection of the Jewish race is not assured anywhere in the world. The results of the past 1,900 years of mass murders (cruisades, Holocaust - to name of a few) and forced conversions is for all to witness with a worldwide population of only about 13 million today, rather than the hundreds of millions that would otherwise inhabit the planet. The subject is not a matter of discrimination nor fascination, but one of protection and security. There is no other "race/religon" on the planet, and no other religion or race requiring this for its survival based on millenia of injustice.
50. Pamela, only if you had half of a brain
Eyal ,   USA   (09.21.10)
The reason why is because it will be recognized throughout the international podium that Israel is a Jewish State. Even if refugees from all Arab states slowly refuge in Israel, they will not have the right to change it to a Muslim State, or a Palestinian State, get it? What Abbas in the other hand is trying to do, is create a 2 state solution (Israel and Palestine) and slowly swarm Israel with Arabs, until they are equal in population. If the international community never recognized Israel as a Jewish State, then the Palestinians would be allow to change it to any state they want and slowly become a 1 state, called Palestine. This is why Pamela. We all know how Arabs like to populate.
51. #5- oh, Pame-e-la!( That's a Zionist song)
tom ,   tel aviv   (09.21.10)
I loved the "somewhat sardonistic" expression. Good for the Doctor of Shoa denial, let him piss on our heads for the time being. As long as the final goal of NO Fakistina is being achieved we'll pretend it's summer rain... No land to a non existing "people", it's so simple yet nobody seems to say iy out loud. Just Do It ! As for excluding non jews: dear Paloma of USA, you don't mean it, do you now? You're not blond by any chance...?
52. To number 1
Allan ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (09.21.10)
The Israeli's can call the PLO state 1) The state of Iran controlled Gaza and West Bank 2) The state of the grand mufti of Jerusalem - waffen ss branch 3) the fakestinian state, where lies rule 4) The state of muslim conquest, built over the ruins of the Jewish temple -
53. Pamela - because America discriminated against Jews
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.21.10)
How ignorant are you, Pamela? You don't even know that for almost 200 years your country, the USA, allowed it's own citizens to discriminate against Jews? In America until the 1960s many states allowed Jews to be barred from jobs, universities and private institutions. Yes, Pamela, in the USA I have friends here who remember signs "No dogs or Jews allowed". And up to 20 years ago there was a huge country - the USSR, that threw Jews into jail if they tried to practice their religion. The sent them to prison camps if they tried to teach the Hebrew language. And the biggest shame you Americans can keep is that you refused to allow Jewish refugees in to the USA as Hitler was starting his merciless slaughter of men, women and children. Go learn your history, Pamela, because you obviously don't know it.
54. There IS a state, Israel, there is NO state Palestine
Ralph Haglund ,   Lund, Sweden   (09.21.10)
And Abbas is too brainwashed by his own propaganda not to see the difference? San Remo 1922 defined the area as the Jewish Homeland, not like the state Israel. It is still very valid. Just to follow the international law. But Netanyahu could start the other end. Say an absolute demand for further yakking was a total stop for incitament against Israel/Jews - the basic promise Arafat made to get the Area A and B! Sit and wait until that is executed - which is also the entry ticket to the Road of the roadmap. There is nothing to talk about before that.
55. Because Israel is the land of the Hebrews
Levi ,   Israel   (09.21.10)
The land of the Jews just as they want thier country to be the a land for Arabs.
56. dear pamela
mir ,   israel   (09.21.10)
yes. jewish state. and yes this also a religion but at the same time that is a nation. and this the only state for our people in this world . very small one indid, but it is ours . and you are more than welcome to come to israel and to see how well this non hews is doing in our state as a minotity. your ignorance is amazing. the un seperated this land to the jews and the arabs after 6 milion jews killed in the holocaust. the jews accept this offer. the arabs declared a war. and now after so many years we recgonize that this "palestanias" that lost yn the war can have thire own state . but ! , like 62 years ago they have to recgonize ours. now go th history books pamela.
57. @#5, After a century of persecutions by Arabs/Muslims,
Bat Zion ,   Centre, Israel   (09.21.10)
we've come to recognise the fact that inviting 5M Palestinians into our only homeland will be the end of it. BTW, Jews are an ethnic group, a nation, and a religion. We share genes, history, culture, religion and language.
58. A Jewish State
Nili   (09.21.10)
Israel must be recognized as a Jewish state. What idiot allows Abbas to demand the PA be Judenrein then deny us the right to a Jewish state. All this pandering has reached the point of total idiocy. Bibi needs to concentrate on building Israel because everyone else is just trying to tear it down.
59. jewish state and arabs
moshon   (09.21.10)
arabs will never recognize israel as a jewsih state because they are not a state of peoples and they are not interested in peace. What they want is to reverse 48 and live under egyptian and syrian rule and collect benefits. On another matter, here is the olmert barak ledger- 1) Olmert is a con man, a liar and military coward who buggered up the hezbollah war by picking peretz, a no nothing, and by being afraid of casualties. 2) On the other hand, Barak did try to call for an early ceasfire in cast lead, he did issue the order for paintball guns, and was against the syrian nuclear hit. Barak boasts israel is the strongest force in the middle east yet is afraid to initate effective operations with coinfidence. He runs like he did from the training accident in the north. So on this one, i go with Olmert having a grain of truth, jsut a grain of truth while barak is dead as a doorknob.
60. Non Jews are not 2nd class citizens here
@5 Pamela ,   Haifa   (09.21.10)
I'm a catholic living in Israel. I enjoy full freedom and rights. I've never felt like a second class citizen. I came here as an adult and have lived here for 8 years now, have been a citizen for ~3 years. I have no intentions of ever moving back to the UK or on to anywhere else. I love my adopted homeland.
