Stop talking, lets make a "defense" exercise against Turkey attack, and most of all lets point our Missiles to Ankara! As you said he don't even refuse to meet"us" he threat us with WAR. The only Language this Muslims understand is the war drums. SO LETS GIVE IT TO THEM!
2. responsible adults ...ha!! like Mr. Danny Ayalon for ex.
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.22.10)
Turkey can be enlightened nation without "Israel"! what about you Mr. Avidar ?! do you know What does enlighten nations mean?! doubt.
3. Far for me be it to tell Israel how to conduct
leo ,   usa   (09.22.10)
its affairs, but following is complete nonsense: "Turkey is walking a thin line here, and it’s very important that we don’t push it to the wrong side." Are you saying Israel got Turkey were Turkey is today? Oh, and why are your worrying about image of Turkey more than Turkey itself? With that said, Israel, I am sure you will do what is best for you.
4. Turning the other cheek
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.22.10)
Is a Christian thing. It merely encourages more bad behavior. Muslims do not respond to anything less than getting their own treatment in return. They act like playground bullies, then that is how they should be treated.
5. THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE WILL RISE AGAIN
PALESTINE   (09.22.10)
6. Tiger State
Vakko ,   Constantinople   (09.22.10)
Turkey has a GDP (PPP) of 1 trillion dollars. Export : over 110 billion dollars. Tourism : 30 million visitors Grow rates : Q1 2010 =>11,7 % Q2 2010=> 10,3 % Fastest growing G-20 Country and the third fastest of the world after Singapore and Taiwan.
7. There's a reason Turkey wants to serve as mediator
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (09.22.10)
Avidar writes, "Erdogan’s government kept on offering to serve as mediator between Israel and Syria." That's hardly evidence of his good intentions toward Israel. Rather, it's intended to raise Turkey's profile in the region, and its clear intent to "deliver" Israel, by pushing it to accept Syria's position, only heightens that profile. It was not Israel that drove Turkey toward "the East", toward Hamas, Syria and Iran. And it won't be Israel that pulls it back. It is the growing demographic of conservative and Islamic elements that brought the AKP to power, and it was the obsequious behavior of the EU that gave political sanction to attacks on Turkey's judiciary and military in the name of "democracy". Declarations about boycotting vacations to Turkey are not coming from the government, but from self-respecting Jewish Israelis who will no longer be spit on and call it rain.
8. #6, not terribly impressive
Danny   (09.22.10)
Turkeys actual GDP is about 750billion which works out to about 10k USD per head. Israel for instance is 28k. Not terribly impressive. Also Turkey is rebounding from a very very low base. Adding an extra 1k per head is obviously much easier than adding 5k - which would be the equivalent growth figure for the US. Taiwan's economy is still struggling and has been since the dot com crash. Not sure they are what Turkey should be aspiring to.
9. :: Paper Tiger Turkey (you know...the bird)
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.22.10)
Turkish settlers occupy and live of the stolen lands from Greeks, Kurds, Armenians, Bulgarians, Cypriots, Arameans, Asyriacs, Arabs, Persians............ Boycott Turkish products, they all come from settlements and occupied territories.
10. Iran Funneling Mass money Through Turkey

11. finally! a sound analysis from israel..
alp ,   istanbul   (09.22.10)
even though I believe Israeli's should apologize from the families of the killed in the flotilla accident and compensate them for their loss, the article reminds people from the judeo-christian countries the "reason" which needs to be applied while dealing with complex middle eastern issues. a good step towards reconciliation. best, alp
12. #5 Will you Arabs revolt against it again?
Sidney ,   USA   (09.22.10)
13. alp #11
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.22.10)
US apologize, for you act of war against the State of Israel? No! We demand an apology for your support of terrorism and the illegal attack on a UN member state. We will not ever compensate the families of your terrorists. We want criminal proceedings against every single person that sailed and reparations for the soldiers that your thugs injured. What's next the US should apologize to the Japanese for shooting down some of their planes at Pearl Harbor? You want a war keep it up.
14. Israel-Turkey
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (09.23.10)
There is not anti-semitism in the turkish conscience sothat we can be again friends. On the other hand it shall be clear to all that Israel is a sovereign state protecting her own interests.Turkey has made a big mistake with this flotilla and shall apologise for it.
15. To: No. 11
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.23.10)
On November 15, 2003, the Bet Israel and Neve Shalom synagogues in Istanbul were completely destroyed when trucks carrying huge quantities of explosives slammed into them. The Turkish government never apologized to the Jews of Turkey for the attack. The Turkish government also refused to pay for rebuilding the two synagogues. Fundraising drives were held in Israel and in the Diaspora to pay the construction costs. The families of the Jews who lost their lives in the tragedy never received compensation from Turkey. And you have the NERVE to dmand an apology from Israel and compensate the families of the terrorists who attacked the Israeli soldiers who were defending Israel's fully-legal blockade? You MUST be on drugs.
16. It is NOT the time for any statements
Seppo ,   Finland   (09.23.10)
Avidar completely denies the basic principle of honesty. The things should be examined at first and only after that is the time to make decisions. Contents of the UN human rights department was probably written back in June and its content was well known in Israel long ago, only judgement of Israel. The time to make conclusions is ONLY after Turkel committee and UN have published their findings. Turkey is now trying to return Ottoman hegemony and #1 of importance for Israel is not to let any military secrets flow to Turkey.
17. Turkey
George Brown ,   New York   (09.23.10)
Eli Avidar, what a load of crap, all you say. There is no difference between Ottoman Turkey and Nazi Germany except that Turks killed 1.5 MM Armenians, but Germans killed 6 MM Jews. Go read a little history before you write another idiotic colunm like this one.
18. A Very Uneducated Opinion
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (09.23.10)
This article offers a very uneducated and myopic grasp of Erdogan's agenda and Turkey's new direction. With an attitude tempered by a Western education and Western values his attempt at a sophisticated exercise in local and international relations is totally misplaced and manifests nothing so much as an ostrich's head buried in the sand.
19. Turkey wants to be Mediator?
len ,   Australia   (09.23.10)
Even through all Turkey's vitriol and hate speeches against Israel. They are still very eager to be peace negotiators between Israel and Syria? WHY? I think because they are set on getting the Golan Heights back to Syria. Not because they want peace for Israel. The Golan Heights is another Stake into the heart of Israel's security
20. I think we should be friends with Turkey BUT
Yaniv ,   Israel   (09.23.10)
we also have responsibility to take the world lead in recognizing the Armenian Genocide. I good friendship always includes speaking the truth to one another and tell the friend when he's wrong. If you can't do that with a friend, then he's not a real friend.
21. #19 Turkey also has a land dispute with Syria
Yaniv ,   Israel   (09.23.10)
That's the real reason they Turkey wants to mediate. Because if they get Golan to the Syrians, then Turkey can always remind Syria about how they helped if Syria should bring up the land dispute it has with Turkey.
22. @ David , Raanana, Israel
The Maverick ,   London UK   (09.23.10)

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.23.10)
You forgot to mention Turkey's unemployment rate, which is roughly at 17%. Go to Izmir, or Tuzla, or Mersin -- see all the empty shipyards. Ten or twelve of Turkey's largest shipping companies are in bankruptcy. Fastest growing economy, indeed! Whom do you think you are fooling? And don't forget the fact that in 2009, Turkey had a NEGATIVE growth rate -- about 5%, as I recall -- so the growth rates for the first and second quarters of 2010 are actually 6.7% and 5.3%, respectively. Your tourism rates have suffered as well. Finally -- Constantinople? No wonder you are so dismally informed.
25. End the Illegal Turkish occupation of Constantinople!
giorgi ,   London   (09.23.10)
End the Illegal Turkish occupation of Constantinople!
26. A hostile state can not be a mediator
Ilan ,   Ariel   (09.23.10)
Turkey has 'befriended' Syria and the requests for Turkey to mediate between a state it wants to befriend and one to which it is very hostile is not appropriate. As to Israelis who so lack in self-respect that they want to visit a country that has set itself as our enemy. Let them but anyone who is proud to be Israeli will not go there.
27. #23 OMG!!
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (09.23.10)
What a provocative moron! Learn the facts before posting your own BULLSHIT.

29. Tahl #27 remember
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.23.10)
dina comes from the shitty country down south that has to photoshop their own President to invent their self-importance. We could act like their troops and just shoot unarmed people for no reason.
30. #13 Zikron Yaakov
Happy   (09.24.10)
Israel landed on the boat in international waters not in TA Harbor. That doesn't compare to Pearl Harbor. Know the facts, don't twist them.
