Radboud ,   Amsterdam, Holland   (10.06.10)
Wow, seldom have I seen such a hypocritical opinion piece. So if I get this straight it is the Israeli police who are allowing Arabs to roam wild and the poor sad Jewish community in the middle of Hebron (throwing stones, herassing men, women and children) is unprotected and harmless? No offence but I have been to Hebron and other places in the Westbank and you can say whatever you want but trying to be a victim here isn't going to convince anyone.
2. to settler Orit - the Jewish neighbors you are ..
Avi ,   Tel Aviv   (10.06.10)
referring to are illegal settlers and have no whatever right to be on Palestinian lands. But you feel sorry that these theives look for police protection, I will not be surprised.
3. I'm too disgusted to write a comment.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (10.06.10)
I think most of us are aware that what Ms Struck writes about is true, we all know the double-standard, law for Jews, no law for Arabs. But, it's our own fault because we put up with this crap from our lousy political elites. I can't write more, I'm just too disgusted. I should have made aliyah to Australia .........
4. no one can heal the pain of uprooting age-old olive trees :(
Salma ,   Palestine   (10.06.10)
add to your information: Since 1967, the "Israeli" military and illegal settlers have destroyed more than one million olive trees claiming that stone throwers and gunmen hide behind them to attack the settlers. *If the Olive Trees knew the hands that planted them.......their Oil would become Tears.* Mahmoud Darwish who can solve this Puzzle ?! "human rights organization in Judea and Samaria " !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5. Interesting how Seculars Jews have strongest Galut mentality

6. :: Struck plays the victim again!
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (10.06.10)
I have never come across a news item in any Israeli media reporting that Palestinians have destroyed illegal settler crops or fruit trees. If there has been such cases then they must be extremely rare and minor compared to the yearly orchestrated attacks by the illegal settlers in the WB towards the civilian Palestinian population and their farmland. Can anyone refer me to such reports? It is probably that Struck is greatly over exaggerating in her claims as she lists no specifics. The simple fact is that Palestinian farmers would not require (as Struck points out) “massive army and police protection” as well as international monitors during the Palestinian harvest season if her fellow illegal settlers refrained from the planned and violent terror attacks they conduct upon innocent Palestinian civilians and their farmland each and every year.

9. Arab thefts of agricultural produce & equipment
Israeli grandma   (10.06.10)
For long years this has been a plague on Jewish farmers all over pre-1967 Israel areas too. All the damage reported by Ms Struk against Jewish farmers in Yesha is minor compared with the losses suffered by Kibbutzim and moshavim. It has become so bad in recent years that Jewish guard groups have been set up to protect whats left as our Police just dont have the manpower or the political backing to keep order and arrest the thieves. Before every Muslim Id there are increased sheep and cattle thefts from Jewish farmers. This is all proven and documented and Matty Groves/Salma types pretend this is not happening as it doesnt suit their anti Israel/Jewish agendas.

11. Attacks not limited to "disputed" territories
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (10.06.10)
As I expected, many of the comments are along the lines of "What did you expect, you evil settlers!" What they are too ignorant to recognize is that this same pattern of behavior extends to WITHIN pre-1967 Israel. Farmers in the Galilee, ranchers within the Negev and Arava have all experienced sabotage, arson, threats and attacks from Arabs, and get little assistance from the police.
12. A View from the Centre
Nic ,   UK   (10.06.10)
The Jewish farms you are referring to are not illegal. Your deep seated prejudice against Jewish landowners does not make you right. They work land that was purchased legally a long time ago and retaken in a defensive war, that makes their existence lawful (as it has been in similar cases the world over), the fact that they inhabit areas of Jewish cultural and historic significance in order to maintain and watch over artifacts and ancient tombs (which are often vandalised) gives them further credence. Yes there are radicals who turn to violence, the reason you hear about them so much is because those stories increase circulation. But if you believe that all Jews in Judea & Samaria are expansionist and violent then you are just as bad as those racists who believe that all Arabs are terrorists with no respect for anyone elses values.
13. Instead of everyone whining...
Had enough ,   Israel   (10.06.10)
why don’t you do something positive for good relations with your Palestinian neighbours. The same goes for the anti-settler people- stop complaining and work on ways to live together. No one is leaving the land.
14. Messianic Jews
The Last Zionist ,   Eilat   (10.06.10)
If the Messianic fascists didn't steal land and destroy crops in opposition to every Halacha the police would have time to deal with other crimes.
15. Not just in Judea and Samaria
Jewish farmer   (10.06.10)
I am a Jewish farmer living in the pre-1967 borders of Israel and the story is no different here. We are subject to thefts and vandalism form our Arab neighbors who view it as a sort of "mitzvah" to steal from Jews. The police and courts are absolutely no help.
16. They can always go back to Irael and leave Palestine
ezra   (10.06.10)
17. But they are doing it themselves.....
Leon ,   US   (10.06.10)
How about this - eveytime Palestinian olive trees are cut down, old agricultural workers are attacked, mosques and Korans are burnt these pages fill up saying that settlers would never do anything like that - where's the proof - it's most likely that the Palestinians did it to themselves - yes that's the ticket. So probably if anything happens to settler trees or missing or broken machinery it must be settlers chopping the trees and committing insurance fraud - what do you think - just asking.......
18. To: No. 17
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.06.10)
Olive trees must routinely be pruned to ensure that they yield a crop. It is well known -- and well-established -- that "Palestinian" farmers prune their olive trees, and then organize a media event, pointing to the pruned branches, and claiming that Israeli settlers have "cut down" their trees. Except look closely at the photographs, and you will see only pruned branches; the trees remain intact and have not been "cut down" at all. Just another cheap "Palestinian" ruse. Moreover, equally well documented is the fact that "Palestinians" have desecrated their own cemeteries (while accusing Jews) and have set fire to their own houses of worship on any number of occasions (while accusing Jews). But I guess that you do not have a problem with the innumerable acts of violence and terror perpetrated against Jews by "Palestinians," do you? Rather hypocritical of you, wouldn't you say?
19. Pure Hipocrisy!!!

When was the last time Palestinians burnt Jewish farm lands? Come on, let's stop this hipocrisy!!!

24. To: No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.06.10)
Do you suppose it might just emanate from nearly seventy years of unrelenting violence and terror perpetrated by "Palestinians" against Jews? For an educational exercise (you are SERIOUSLY in need of education), you might wish to start with the murders and thievery by "Palestinians" against Jewish settlements during the First Aliyah, work your way north to the massacre of the Jews of Hebron, the massacre of the Jews of Jerusalem and, needless to say, culminating with PLO-inspired acts of terror against Jews (both in Israel and in the Diaspora), the massacre of children at Ma'alot, the hijacking of airplanes and then work your way to suicide bombings. Also -- please learn how to spell. You are embarrassing yourself (although you are not quite intelligent enough to realize it).
25. An article with perspective

This article gives the balance to the picture the media often leaves out. Im amazed at the quantity of posts by peace now activists against this article, trying vainly to portray it as slanted. Pathetic!
26. Protect Jewish farmers/interests, are you kidding?
Adina Kutnicki ,   Israel   (10.06.10)
The security services have zero interest in protecting Jewish interests, in fact, the Civil Administration is anti-Jewish. They believe that their mandate is to protect Arab interests, as leftists control the agenda here, and leftists love Arabs and hate Jews, especially patriotic ones.
27. 3 Terry, Eliat: No, you should not have made aliyah to Aust
Rivkah   (10.06.10)
ralia where the government has confiscated most of the population's person weapons, making Australia more likely to be attacked by China which needs more land for an expanding population. At least in Israel, you can defend yourself, even if you go to jail for defending yourself like in Britain. Better to be tried by 12 than carried by six, a Sheriff in Texas is fond of saying.
