31. Lost in the Haze of Extremism
leo ,   nyc   (10.13.10)
Luckily in the USA, if someone wants to convert to Judaism, they are not subject to the dictates of extremists who resemble Islamofascists more than true Jews. Sorry but the most important quality of Judaism as I know it is being good to your fellow human beings---something severely lacking in the haze of all the rituals dictated by alleged holy men--thank G-d the USA has separation of religion and state.
32. Adam! thanks huge "air" hug for you (I'm shomer negia)

34. Converts
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (10.13.10)
They are creating many nations in the land of Israel through these conversions.Annul all conversions.

Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (10.13.10)
I knew two people abroad who never weared an IDF uniform , Without those people Israel could not survive , and i'm talking about security and defense . I was an aide to one of them .
37. Shalom , Some of those "goyim" as you call them
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (10.13.10)
Gave their BLOOD to defend so called "Israelis" as you are . One of them deserves more respect than a whole anti Israeli yeshiva .
38. To #25 & #6
Charles   (10.13.10)
1) As you signed your letter "an orthodox convert" I addressed you as: "Dear Orthodox Convert", as is the norm. I apologize that this was not clear. 2) When I said "Welcome to the Jewish people, I am happy that you joined" I thought that it would be clear that I consider you Jewish period. While it is clear that you are angry, It seems to me that your anger is misdirected. What would you one do if you were notified of questionable and inferior conversions taking place in Israel (today, as opposed to in the past)? If one keeps quiet as hundreds and thousands of non Jews are accepted as Jews, he is doing nothing as great harm is being done to the Jewish people. On the other hand, if one opens protests this, he is branded disloyal, insensitive, ignorant, an atheist etc. It is difficult to be silent in the face of the information I have seen and heard regarding what is taking place today. The onus is on the Rabbis committing this mockery rather than someone who may be reporting it.
39. Bravo #6!!!
Chaya ,   Tel Aviv   (10.13.10)
40. I don't understand why anyone jumps teams
Talula ,   Israel   (10.13.10)
Honestly, why would anyone want to convert to another religion? What does Judaism have for example, that Christianity does not? And vice-versa. And why does everyone get all bent out of shape over something that is man-made? I love that young Russian lads come and serve in combat units. I love that they show a willingness to protect a country they were not born in or don’t have any real ties to. But they do it. Isn’t that enough? In my mind that makes them decent honorable human beings. Take the Haredi for example – they shirk army service AND they are Jewish AND they have family roots in this country – are they good Jews? No! so what does it really matter. Going to synagogue doesn't make you a Jew any more than standing in a garage makes you a car. At the end of the day, it’s all about how decent you are and how you help others – These sad old rabbis have no business judging anyone – especially as their own are a bunch of demented control freaks
41. These "top Rabbis" are lazy, uneducated idiots.
Avner ,   Tel Aviv   (10.13.10)
These so called "top Rabbis" are just lazy, uneducated idiots, who do no useful work, and contribute nothing to society. Why should their uneducated opinion be accorded more prestige than the opinion of any other unemployed, uneducated idiot? They have rarely done an honest day's work in their life. Someone who serves in the IDF has far more right to consider themselves Jewish, than these Lithuanian-Haredi social-parasites.
42. To #6: Shame on you!
Israeli 2   (10.13.10)
As a Jew I DO NOT welcome you with such an abhorent attitude towards judaism. Who gives a damn about you being called a Ger Tzedek or not. Be proud of it. It is an honorable title. You love Israel? Fine! Do not slam judaism and its rabbis. How contradictory you are and how hypocrytical indeed. Shame on YOU!
43. 36 Yes, I did. Bugger off!

What is your contribution to society, instigating hatred against top Rabbies?Great! Insulting them is foolish.
45. to Shalom
Igor ,   Ashkelon,Israel   (10.13.10)
These Rabbis never served in army, live and study from my taxes, and then call me donkey and evil for not observing Sabbath, and i suppose to respect them for that? If those soldiers want to be part of Jewish nation, contribute to it, I respect them and consider them Jews, and I don't care what those rabbis think, or even what religion those soldiers follow. And I am Jew by halaha and not leftist.
46. 40 So, is Opra, Ty Pennington, Teresa the nun all Jews?
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (10.13.10)
Points to ponder. Are you saying that they keep the essence of Torah better than a lot of religious Jews who are tunnel-visioned in ritual and medieval ignorance? So hate-mongers and slanderers are not Jews? That part would agree with Torah (vide the instances of kareit lacking teshuvah in Scripture). 47. A Litvak disagrees
Sidney ,   USA   (10.13.10)
Our family goes back to the first settlement of Jews in Lithuania. A cousin was the best known historian of Lithuanian Jews. With this background I am ashamed of these Lithuanian rabbis. It was probably rabbis like them who turned my parents against religion.
48. 47 Try the Teimanim
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (10.13.10)
I've never encountered such a Torah-knowledgeable, noble, humble, warm and helpful group of men and women, with such integrity, anywhere. They are, indeed, the Light and Torch of Torah. Greene ,   Israel   (10.13.10)
I have relatives from the same origine as your family, and they had most probably the same Rabbis. They are still profoundly religious.I think your parents were turned against religion for other reasons. Many jews in this time were attracted by a more modern way of life, and the great Rabbis were not ready to adapt the Tora to people s wishes.Had the Rabbis done changes, during the +3000 years we have the Tora, what would be left ?You don t have to be ashamed of the Lithuanian Rabbis. They are devoted, honest ,very human human beings, and so are the Lithuanian Jews.Be proud of what you are.
50. THEY'RE ALL ON THE SAME SIDE,REALLY
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (10.13.10)
The IDF protects Israel militarily and the Rabbis protect Israel spiritually. Both try to preserve the Jewish state in their own way and both deserve our respect. A compromise is surely possible, but as it's the IDF that's straying into the Rabbis' domain, the onus is on the IDF to coordinate better with the Rabbis. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
51. To #13...
Nathaniel ,   Sderot Israel   (10.13.10)
Hi, The conversion is not at all as you described it. The length of the seminar is four months. Yet, before the mikveh, there is an akazat dam, before that there is a shaliach beis din and then a beis din. Halacha is what is important here. I didn't want to take part in the debate until I saw your comment. I'm a one of these 'army converts'. My father's a Levy and my mother's not Jewish. A lot of these kids converting do have Jewish blood. Whether or not the atmosphere should be less lenient is a valid question but to claim that it's a reformed conversion or not halachly kosher is a lie.

53. @ 6 STRANGERS & CONVERTS
Benjamin ,   singapore   (10.14.10)
We are aware of the two of the three Torah laws that command LOVE: LEVITICUS 19:1 DEUTRONOMY 6:5 LEVITICUS 19:33-34 The above refers to three notions of demands 1. That you love your neigbour 2. That you love your Lrd 3. That you love the stranger In today’s world, to whom does this law apply ? I solemnly believe, that these law applies in both Israel and the Diaspora, this law applies to all those non- Jewish residents who wish to live in peace with their Jewish neighbors. Torah law, which is rooted in both morality and common sense, doesn’t command Israeli Jews to love those non- jewish neighbors who wish to destroy the jews. In biblical tradition, strangers have unique distinction; as they, in addition to the Patriarchs are the only category of human being whom G-d is identified as loving: And G-d loves the Stranger ( Devarim 10-18). The biblical word for stranger is (ger ) . Hundreds of years after the Torah was written, that word ( Ger) CAME TO DENOTE ‘ converts”, and as such the usage it still retains in MODER HEBREW. Even the TALMUDIC Sages started to assume that the biblical injunction to love the ger and to treat him/ her equally referred to a Jew by choice ( A convert).Actually the torah injunction INTENT TO PROTECT THE STRANGER, BUT NOT THE CONVERT, from mistreatment. ( this does not mean that we may treat the CONVERTS WITH MISTREATMENT ) Converts in Orthodox Judaism are not any different from Orthodox Jews. They are NOT STRANGERs and must not to be labeled as GERS. Orthodox Rabbis in highly prominent status an position have abused the term STRANGERS and CONVERTS. These are diabolism and schism in Orthodox Judaism ! So once one goes through a proper instruction and pass the test, by a designated orthodox Rabbi he/she is a ORTHOPDOX Jew. There is no ISSUE OF BEING…A GER OR A CONVERT ! TO NO 6 : I ACKNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTAND THE PAIN that you went through in the conversion process. And I denounce the social –stigma that is place on your righteous soul. Being labeled as “ger”. You serving the IDF is an act of loyalty and allegiance to the Jewish Nation and you love Israel. The Rabbis are very wrong in not accepting you as an orthodox jew. They have created a schism in Orthodox Judaism. It is a Polarization problem and a Schism- in Jewish theology and culture and tradition. You are not a STRANGER or an orthodox convert but a our baby an Orthodox Jew fully in REM and Reality, you are our child , a ben Kosher, if all you said/disclosed at No .6 is true/ or noting but the truth. I ASLOS KNOW MOST HAVE AT LEAST ONE PARENT A JEW . THAT IS ALRIGHT . With apology Ben Singapore
54. 43 , you know the way out , so go
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (10.14.10)
But i will not fall as you do in vulgarity
55. 48 , yes , they even , contrary to others ,

accepted a yeshu adorer under a Jewish mask
56. To 6 respect
Greene ,   Israel   (10.14.10)
Who is respected? The one who respect others. You want the Rabbis to respect you?First you have to respect them. They are the containers and representatives of our Tora. With great respect to all the effort you did to become jewish,i wish you sincerely to be respected by everyone. It depends on you .
57. "Torah opinion" blasphemy they are not prophets
Josh   (10.14.10)
Torah doesn't say anything about Rabbis or conversion processes. From Ruth to quom women we see nothing like false halacha additions, faked rules, and rabbinic false additions being a requirement. Dare I say the cult is faltering and seeks to find a handrail to prevent a toppling of power? You can fool some of the people some of the time, but let my people go. Why an opinion and not a ruling? Are you not judges? Opinions is the cowdice way to say fales-prophets mislead but dare not really add laws. If they were correct they would have a law to stand on that came from G-d's mouth..
58. To45 Igor
Greene ,   Israel   (10.14.10)
Life is not about what we care or not care; life is about the consequences of our acts. When we have children,we want the best for them, and we would be very sad,if they fall in love, and their chosen refuse to marry them because they are not halahic jews.Being jew is not just a piece of paper with the mention jew.It has a great meaning. The jews have kept alive the Tora more than 3000 years.Who reads today latin books? not so many. Thanks to the living Tora the jews knew after 3000 years that Israel belongs to them, and the secular and orthodox jews fought for it.If not these Rabbis ,today nobody would know the meaning of jew because it would long ago be melted between the nations of the world.Being jew is worth doing the effort to continue to keep the Tora,as our ancester did.I am very proud to be a jew.The whole world is scrutining the mini state of Israel. They are expecting from us to be the light of the nations. At this stage we are not.And they are angry .The arabs are stronger, because they know who they are, they know what they want. They believe in their Koran. In what do we believe strongly? In Judaism, democraty?Who can give clear definitions? But if all the jews will understand that G-d and his Tora is their strength,Bibi will have a strong position, and will know how to handle the peacetalks, like a real leader, sure of him.We have the leaders that we deserve.Shalom.
59. 46 - Did you actually see God hand the Torah to anyone?
Talula ,   Israel   (10.14.10)
Is there photographic evidence? Can anyone come to the stand and testify? - No, I thought not. Makes me laugh how thousands of ‘sheep’ follow something that they cannot check the authenticity of - religion is all hearsay. People who follow any religion to extremes are weak, they have no mind of their own. They need to believe in something they cannot see or hear because they are useless in controlling their own lives. Being a good Jew doesn’t make you a good human being (which is more important and more socially accepted). Look at Shas for example – the pious who steal, bribe lie and cheat – it’s not written anywhere that that’s OK – it’s FORBIDDEN! But they still do it – because its suits them. Being a decent human being, who helps others, works, pays bills, loves their kids and serves their country has a far greater effect on a country and its community. The ones who ruin it for everyone are the religious nutters who like to look the part, while one hand is in the cash register and the other is slapping their wife around.
60. 55 Ribi Yehoshua is not "yeshu"
