61. Land for Peace

Now its Land for nothing. When will the left learn.
62. Why thank you no. 57...

1. Don't know the way forward for sure, that's above my paygrade, but of course I'm not running for office anywhere...it's THEIR job to show leadership and improve Israel's future prospects. 2. The first step on the road to wisdom is to know what you don't know...and that's where my hair starts to stand on end, when I read comment after comment based on having the monopoly on truth (as these are usually penned by self-described rightists, this comes with the requisite insult against Arabs, Obamas, self-hating Jews, leftists). It's the same hostile and sterile chatter as in the States, only the States can (barely, ok..) afford an endless schoolyard fight...Israel cannot. 3. Israel needs the leadership to confront its own extremists. You know, those who villify a Rabin, or much more instructively, a Sharon or a Netanyahu, if they feel their interests - not infrequently, cheap housing for their often very large families and the "Trespassers will be shot, Survivors will be shot again" attitude to land that was apparently deeded to them in the Torah - are threatened. These endless deals to stay in power (not to mention exemptions from burdens that other Israelis assume) weaken Israel and make wise and creative leadership next to impossible...and what's this about laws regarding the separation of men and women on busses? This sort of stuff seriously undermines Israel's status as "the mid-Easts sole democracy". 4. If Israel is able to find its way back from FoxNewsLand where the world is composed of "rightists" and "leftists" (how boring - how dangerous too), it will be infinitely better equipped to deal with its real enemies, fanatical islamists, etc. 5. Since you asked, some variant of the land for peace 1967-border with land swaps for the post-67 Jewish areas of Jerusalem and suburbs, and power sharing in East Jerusalem. Smarter people than me have the details all figured out for years now. "Shouting down" this almost universally accepted end-game, or pretending it will go away connotes not a lot of seichel. The creative part comes by (finally) doing this fast and geztting on with all our lives.
63. Smith #51 you're full of it
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (11.22.10)
Turkey is not even close to a democracy anymore. Their kangaroo courts are as bad as ours for the same reason. Yes Erdogan has in fact overthrown the government and arrested any and all opposite on trumped up charges. Why don't you attempt to name any of the other so-called "Muslim democracies" that you claim? Go ahead try it.
64. mooslums will give the world peace in 1000 years, not before
Moshe ,   Usa   (11.22.10)
65. Again, comes down to what Kahane said, "what will the world
diamdave ,   USA   (11.22.10)
Lapid's argument can be distilled as ' we have to do this, otherwise, what will the world/gentiles think?" Same old ghetto mentality, albeit with shiny tanks and Uzis. Mr. Lapid, you give up land for nothing, you get bigger demands, you boast weakness to the enemy, you gain not even a respite, only derisive laughter from a strengthening opponent. How about trying Victory, as in take territory, keep territory, incorporate it without shame nor guilt nor embarassment. THAT is how countries, Russia, Germany, France, USA... are built. Like it or not.
66. to 65

67. colonialism in a post colonial era
sass ,   aust   (11.24.10)
something that was created by violent and un-natural means can only survive by violent and un-naturlal means. Israel, the colonial enterprise, can only survive with a colonial sponser. loose the sponser, loose the state. it is the arabs in the end who will decide the fate of the jewish state.
68. Excellent but flawed
suzanne ,   vancouver   (11.27.10)
Left or right, it's plain to see that most people commenting are idiots. I love Isreal. If you fall, we all go down.
