"I never heard of a man choosing death rather than infertility. Impotence maybe, but not infertility." Perhaps, but I have heard of many, many men who place all blame for failure to conceive on the woman as well as all responsibility for failure to produce a son. And I don't mean just in Judaism. I mean in societies and communities world-wide. I was stunned 40+ years ago when a neighbor's husband flatly refused to speak to her for two full years because she had "dared" to produce a female child. Many men place extraordinary emphasis on the ability of their "wife" to produce male offspring.

males who divorced barren wives like the Shah of Iran (Reza Pahlavi) and Napoleon. But women who are religious toward YHWH should take heart if their husbands want to stay with them since Sarah the Patriarch's wife was barren until great old age and Rebecca the Patriarch's wife was barren for twenty years. Many women are barren and many men cannot father a child from low sperm counts. There are reasons for this and people need to beware the pitfalls of infertility in the food supply and pharmaceutical industry. 1% of women who take oral contraceptives become permanently sterile. Women whose mothers took DES (diethylstilbestrol) to prevent a miscarriage often have children who have early life reproductive tract cancer. Eating soy lowers sperm count in males and if the mother eats soy during pregnancy, the male babies have abnormally small penises and the female babies have early life gynecomastia (breasts and pubic hair) if the child continues eating soy after birth like soy infant formula or soy based foods. Pesticides can affect fertility. Multiple sex partners can affect fertility and cause early life reproductive cancer. Sexual abuse of a child like the rape of a female child can cause early life reprodutive tract cancer. Plasticizers affect fertility and that is absorbed in many ways from food in plastic containers, especially microwaved foods. Emotional stress in a household can shut down ovarian function that results in infertility because to stop the bleeding when there is not enough estrogen to stop it in runaway menses that last for months, high dose estrogen has to be given that can result in permanent sterility. It amazes me that there are women who can have children at all with all the factors that affect fertility. God must be performing miracles all the time.
63. According to the Narrow view of Medicine
Avigail ,   Sydney Australia   (12.04.10)
Medicine has a very narrow view that is repeatedly proven incorrect and outright wrong. Many doctors say this and the patients prove them wrong - but they dont want to know about simple and non-invasive techniques - after all they dont make money that way

Obviously you dont get out to read much if you believe this prognosis. In addition to the Statistics you quote which are equally as faulty. I suppose you are also a puppet of the Pharmaceuticals that push that only your way is correct. You could not further from the truth. Maybe you should do a few websearches and read about all the people whose 'death sentence' and corrupt fraud by puppet doctors of the Pharmceutical Giants was easily and simply overturned by natural methods proven over thousands of years.

She will die, carrying the banner of motherhood high, isn't this suicide ? forbidden in Judaism,to a haredi woman,no education, no trade, children is her entire life,no children,no life, why aren't the rabbis encouraging women in situations like this to adopt a child ?.

Daniel ! You must be familiar with 'you don't rely on miracles' and by the way,the last miracle happened ? 2000 years ago,the miracle of Hanukah, since than,no more miracles to the Jewish people, either God run out of miracles, or some other reason, and this poor woman must realize, there is life after not having children, help the sick, the lonly elderely, the mother of a household of children, who has no day no night, this woman is depressed, she cant make a rational decision,so the family in her Rabbi must step in to save her life.

.... a fertility problem is halachicly considered the "fault" of the woman all the time (to heck with science!) and a man can use that as grounds for divorce after ten years. And as I said, religion aside, I think a woman who prefers death to childlessness is not a healthy person. And would not make the best of mothers were a child thrown into her lap, so to speak.

Her life is her own, and no one else should determine what she should do. Her decision must be respected.

It's hard to beleive that with all the options woman have regarding our reproductive rights-and given the technology we have-and given the need for babies to find families to adopt them-A woman may choose to simply die. I am glad the courts are stepping in because she does not sound balanced.
