1. I want to be sick
moshe ,   Jerusalem   (01.31.11)
Please let me know where in the Torah G-d said that skirts have to touch the floor, sleeves have to go past the elbow and hair must be completely covered. Welcome to Islam.
2. "damaging our camp's modesty"
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.31.11)
so the individual has no say, but instead must march lockstep with what someone else decides is right. in other words, you dumb chicks are not competent enough to think for yourselves and decide what is modest and what isn't (and we all know how difficult that is). heck, they'll even decide who you should marry. you don't need to think, just obey - this is your lot in life. in doing this thou shalt be happy.
3. They`ll be wearing a Burka next
Avi ,   Israel   (01.31.11)
Somehow i think these people have really lost the plot.
4. This is Mafia control at its best.
Israeli 2   (01.31.11)
"...haredi women must 'support the kosher stores' by buying their clothes there." Oh my! Oh My! What would Kings David and Shlomo say about this insanity? May they please return to us soon so that they can wack their heads back to Torah.
5. 1 Moshe, Jerusalem: YHWH wants women who profess to know Him
Rivkah   (01.31.11)
to be modest in their apparel. The specifics on modest apparel are man made laws and decisions. Specifics are not mentioned by YHWH except that a woman should be modest and should not wear that which pertains to men. Many a male has fallen from the sight of a woman's ankles in days gone by. Covering the hair is not necessary if the hair is long on a woman which Rabbi Yeshua said is a woman's covering (like a hat or scarf). For a woman to have shorter hair that is not covered is a provocation to even angels to sin. Many women are attacked sexually by fallen angels appearing as men. They seduce or rape and abandon or cause enormous harm to the women. It is to protect the women from such fates that women are advised to be modest. Unfortunately, males are not attracted to modest women unless the male is particularly godly.
6. 1 moshe,be healthy!
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (01.31.11)
Clothes depend on environement. In cold weather :warm clothes, warm. In warm weather: light clothes, cool. In free society, long dresses ,protect.
7. #2 More of his Christian mockery
Israeli Jew ,   Israel   (01.31.11)
8. Haredi mind control at work
Israeli grandma   (01.31.11)
Our Holy Torah requires that we not wear garments with Shatnes, i.e. a weave combining wool and linen fibres. This is the ONLY kosher requirement. All the rest is custom, and societal pressures on woman, and in the Haredi cults on the men and boys too.
9. Religion
Sagi   (01.31.11)
is the manipulation and eventual control of a person's mind.
10. Opinion about religion can only ...
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (01.31.11)
be taken seriously, after having taken inside information at the orthodoxe society.Otherwise it is like criticizing Chinese lifestyle without having been in China.
11. It really is the womans decision -

14. Next step
Yamit ,   Tel AVIV Israel   (01.31.11)
Yeah, next step will be supervision for kosher lavatories....
15. Obedience training
Mike ,   Portland, USA   (01.31.11)
One send s one's puppies to dog obedience school and one's children to religious obedience school. If one is very strict one will pick a trainer ("educator") who will break the creatures spirit and make sure he/she heels by the tribal elders' feet well into adulthood. The "overly lenient" (reform, secular) will seek out trainers that will not break the creatures spirit so that as an adult it does not heel and at times will actually follow its bliss. We can't have people not "heeling" and following their bliss, can we? Why just bourkas for women?;why not for men, children and puppies too? This way Israel won't have to feel it is a western outpost of leniency in the religiously observant middle east?
16. to #8
star ,   Israel   (01.31.11)
Sorry but you could be misleading people It is unquestionably agreed by Rabbis that Jewish women (and men) should dress modestly even if it is not written in these words in the Torah. In short this means - women wear skirts and not pants - women cover part of their arms and legs - married women cover their hair However how far we should take this modesty varies between communities as you can see
17. if this was about preventing "shatnes" I could get behind it
IMC   (01.31.11)
Shatnes is a Torah commandment preventing the mixing of wool and cotton. But instead this is about silly and ridiculous behavior by a highly insecure group of people who have no real knowledge about the Majesty of G-d! It is about turning G-d into a nit-picky human who doesn't see past the glasses on his nose! So very sad!
18. Say what?

mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.01.11)
i figure that if it's ok to say everything vile under the sun about christianity it's ok to agree with the vast majority of jewish talkbackers on feedback about this article. seems you're into that mind-control thing, too.
22. Those women are to dumb to decide
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.01.11)
by themselve , so they need other dumbs to decide for them .
23. Some people who think they are wise...
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (02.01.11)
should better not talk,if they do not want that others discover, that they are fools in disguise.
24. It's no big deal.
chava ,   yerushalayim   (02.01.11)
No one knows yet just what standards are to be applied by this department. And women are being urged to buy from "approved" stores, but not being forced to. If they choose, they can shop in the neighborhood at other stores, or in other neighborhoods. I didn't hear anyone complain when a committee was formed to offer certificates of being green or good to their employees or something (I can't remember exactly what) to restaurants that followed this committee's ideas. People who chose to, look for the certificate. Others don't. No big deal. This is also no big deal. If a woman wants to know that there's no question about tzniut (in the eyes of this department ) she can shop in these designated stores and not worry. Or she can trust herself. What's the problem?! Leave everyone alone.
25. mixing of wool and cotton
gary speiser ,   herzlia   (02.01.11)
why can't you mix them????. do you gei sick????.
26. Police State
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (02.01.11)
Everybody has the right to buy & wear clothing according to their personal dictates. What is modest and what is immodest is a function of society and time. Historically there was no swim suits, a bikini would be the height of immodesty then. These groups of Haridim have decided to freeze the definition of modesty to sometime in the past say around the 16th century. This is their privilege, but forcing stores & people to comply with their idea of modesty is a police state action. Their actions, in some places, would be considered criminal as “restraint of trade”. Israel as a democratic country should not allow this unofficial police action to continue.
27. #26 You must also take into consideration
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.01.11)
that the Haredim don't have the excessive divorce rate of the mainstream population Nor are their offspring caught up in the drug scene & bar scene When was the last time that a Haredi pulled a bank stickup ? Times in the old days, 16th century to be specific, were a lot less stressful, families were closer and the adults weren't trumbeniking around Surely you've heard of the "Good Old Days"
28. Some women entering in the category of tb # 22
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.01.11)
think they can judge wise people . They even NEED other's to write some of their tb's and when they talk it's :..... ויפתח
29. T0 #27 What Good Old Days?
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (02.01.11)
The good old days – Ha! In the 16th century daughters married who their father picked, the average life span was around the 30’s, women were second class citizens. Jews were subject to all sorts of prosecution much sanctioned by the governments. I think you should review history before you push for the so called “good old days” as there was very little good about them especially for Jews. It is true that there many relevelatins in that century as it was considered the onset of a new age but there was also the Black Death at the end of the century and into the 17th century. Spain, Portugal & France rid themselves of Jews at the end of the 15th century which had repercussions into the 16th century. The 16th century saw the start of the Ghetto in Italy. So much for the Good Old days.
