61. @#55: Aren't the protestants in Ulster "settlers"?
Bat Zion ,   Central Israel   (01.06.11)
62. #60, it is not the too, but how it is used
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (01.06.11)
Your correct, transparency in government and private sector is almost always good. This is hardly the point here. This "investigation" is armed by the right and aimed to the left. That part is transparent. It is also not equal, balanced, nor developed for transparency. The goal is to destroy the left. Rules, used as weapons, and aimed in a unilateral fashion is NOT transparency. This is not designed to be deployed as a tool for fairness, it is designed to destroy. That is never good, for the right or left.
63. Left wing versus traitor
Madeleine ,   Israel   (01.06.11)
Let's make a distinction here between honest left-wingers who oppose government policies on health, education, transport, immigration - whatever - putting forward their opposition in the knesset, or by legal demonstrations, as in any other democratic country on the one hand, and these so-called NGOs who exist not just to point out Israel's faults but to scream out their hatred of the government, Zionism, religious Jews etc., to the world at large, while never for once minotiring the actions of the Palis, Hamas or other jihad groups. This is not about genuine left-wing opposition to the government; this is about self-hating Jews trying to destroy their country while remaining silent on the subject of Palestinian terrorism. This is truly treachery from within and has to be stopped.
64. No. 5
Madeleine ,   Israel   (01.06.11)
"The leftist organizations that Mr. Ben-Ari is saying are traitors are simply saying the same thing as the rest of the world". WRONG WAY ROUND!! The rest of the world takes it's cue fromthese groups, on the basis that if people here are saying that, then it must be true. Many of those outside Israel who scream their hatred of us have never been here and know only what the see, read and hear in the media. You, of course, sitting in your comfortable - or maybe not so comfortable - home in America, feel qualified to put forth all those facts. I doubt you are.
65. NOT A MOMENT TOO SOON !
Hertzel ,   Tiberias   (01.06.11)
SO GLAD TO SEE THIS COUNTRY WAKING UP FINALY, AFTER 25 YEARS OF LEFTIST ATTACKS, WORKING WITH IT'S ENEMIES WITHIN AND WITHOUT. LEFT WING IDEAS ARE OK , BUT NOT WHEN THEY ARE USED TO DESTROY THE STATE "LEGALY" AND BEING FUNDED BY KNOWN ENEMIES.
66. Rabin called "settlers" Hamas
Z Lando   (01.06.11)
On several occasions which have been documented. On the other hand - I think that both politicians are stupid ... what are we? in Kindergarten? Of course, being the PM..... makes it worse.
67. About freakin time. The radical left is enemy number 1 of
John ,   Baltimore U.S.A.   (01.06.11)
Jewish state and friend number one of tibi and hamas and the arab league. Nuff said.
68. what a bunch of ignorant fascists
orit ,   israel   (01.06.11)
How not surprising that our totally uneducated and unqualified members of knesset, should embark on a complete and desperate witch hunt. Why don't they start doing their job and helping out the israeli public with healthcare, education, and fires, instead of raping them and stealing from them. Ignorant fools. In a country full of smart jews, why do we have a bunch of apes running it?
69. Dear Ben Ari,
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (01.06.11)
As a Knesset member, you are aware that calling for eradicating a legetimate group/minoriy in democratic Israel is against the law and you can go on a trial for that and jail too. You are basicaly legitimazing what Rabin's murder did. Quiet surprising (or not) for someone who wears a kippa !
70. #1 Hit them where it hurts
Raphael ,   Netanya   (01.06.11)
These whistleblowers are motivated by 1) Narcissism 2) Money. To jail them wouls enhance their sense of selfrightousness. Instead, investigating their fat income sources would disclose tax frauds, and possible sex scandals. Consistent fines and exposure of their misdeeds would make them wiser.
71. #1
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.06.11)
I am certain that no Israeli NGO whitewashes money gained through from slavery and drugs. I am certain that no Israeli NGO receives funds from Saudi Arabia which would make the organization an illegal enemy agent. If you are certain, like I am, why are you afraid to reveal sources of funding?
72. The words of rabbi Kahane ring in my ears
David Ha'ivri ,   Shomron, Israel   (01.06.11)
25 years ago when rabbi Kahane and his political party were being hounded down by all of the other parties in Knesset. He said: "When we have the power, we will not make new laws to use against the ultra-left. We will just use the same laws that they past to harass us to restrict them."
73. #28 interesting comment
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.06.11)
There is a political group in Israel that calls for establishing a country that is ethnically pure and clean of Jews. Some members of this group call for the violent ethnic cleansing of the Jews, others demand that the IDF stop defending Jews so that others can murder them. Yet you call Ben-Ari, who opposes this group a "Brownshirt" and worse?
74. Don't "eradicate" them, force them to be open
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (01.06.11)
The "left" in Israel has been corrupted from within and the results are obvious: the Israeli electorate is abandoning the left. In the next Knesset elections, Labor might be lucky to get 9 or 10 seats, while Meretz is looking at being totally shut out. Why? Because all we get from these leaders of social democracy is that they are the "peace camp" and side with all the hostile NGOs. Sometimes some Labor members do indeed distance themselves, but Israelis associate the "peace camp" with capitulation to Palestinian terrorism. The "left" embraces hostile NGOs that would like to see Israel wiped off the map. It embraces the anarchists who hate Israel so much that they relate more to the Palestinians. And worst of all, the main reason why the left is its own worst enemy is that the left has abandoned itself and its ideologies. There is no political party in Israel any more that embraces social democracy. There is nobody fighting for the minorities, the betterment of women, the environment, health and education and 101 other issues that Israelis are concerned with. The left has but one golden calf: the "peace camp". Israelis are sick of the "peace camp" that continues to bring us Palestinian incitement and continued attacks. The "peace camp" has led to hundreds of radical organizations around the world being strengthened in their attempt to delegitimize Israel and bring about our downfall. I despise the venomous attacks by right-wingers like Ben-Ari. I despair that Israel has no viable left wing for its voters to support. Shame on the left for abandoning their own goals and their own country.
75. Move to the Right....You have my support : )
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.06.11)
the Right in "Israel" and we the Palestinians Need To 'Get Over' the Left.
76. What about the Nazi-leumis?
Ex-orthodox Jew ,   Israel   (01.06.11)
After all many extremist settlers receive their funding directly from radical-leaning Jewish communities overseas.
77. How I see it
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (01.06.11)
# 63--you are correct and I said as much in # 50 In general--forcing NGOs to indicate where their funding comes from is not just to look for terrorist or Arab funding. It had been reported that Norway is funding--NO FOREIGN entity should be using a NGO to further its' agenda re: Israel, Israel is a sovereign state ( something many seem to forget) , if a foreign government wants Israel to behave a certain way then let their Prime Minister meet with our Prime Minister and discuss their concerns. Funding for behind the scenes influence pedaling is all that this law will look for!
78. Response to#40
John R ,   NYC USA   (01.06.11)
A portion of the UN Resolutions are Security Council resolutions (at least 9 of them on settlements and about 60 total that condemn Israeli behavior). Under article 25 they are absolutely binding. Three times the Security Council tried to impose severe economic sanctions against Israel under Chapter VI but were stopped by a single dissenting veto, the US. You need to do your homework.
79. What the guy #5 says is essentially
Ralph Haglund ,   Lund, Sweden   (01.06.11)
that the majority is always right, that 2000 years old anti-semitism must be right because so many have said so. Remember Meretz helped Goldstone with his report, where he tells Israel it is not allowed to defend itself. It pretty well tells where the Israeli left is nowadays. It was different before, when Peres told of the necessity of Jewish settlements in Judea/Samaria.
80. One typical case
Ralph Haglund ,   Lund, Sweden   (01.06.11)
The Swedish "religious" group Diakonia is a typical example. They are funded to a great part by the Swedish government here. They pretend to be neutral between Israel and its enemies, but they are extremely biased. AND - they often refer to info from B'tselem as "the Israelis say". AND - they are among the greatest donors to B'tselem to make them say the right things! Just Google for 'Btselem donors" and you see the list.
81. Michael Ben-Ari
Eve ,   Israel   (01.06.11)
I am a moderate who does not agree with every action of groups like Breaking the Silence or BTselem. But I strongly defend their right to dissent which is a cornerstone of Israeli democracy. As an Israeli citizen, this democracy is precious to me and I will defend it against facists like Ben- Ari and the Kahanists
82. Response to#35
John R ,   NYC USA   (01.06.11)
Do you believe the US Gov't, which does not maintain an embassy in Jerusalem, is doing that as a result of the Arab League? That has been US policy since Israeli annexation. If the Arab League had that kind of power they would certainly stop the $3billion in US military aid and almost 40 UN Security Council vetoes. The New Israel Fund is a 503(c) organization and as such ,its filings are subject to freedom of information act inquiries and a list of its largest contributors. Do you believe the Israeli population is incapable of interpreting information and making up their own mind?
83. Response to#38
John R ,   NYC USA   (01.06.11)
The difference between free speech and treason is one passes legally restricted gov't information to a foreign power. An example of this would be Jonathan Pollard's actions.
84. Response to#21
John R ,   NYC USA   (01.06.11)
Please be specific and give detailed information as to what lies you say I am saying and give detailed reasons why you say they are lies. You are plainly ignorant of the facts.
85. from ex-ex-orthodox to an ex orthodox
Joav ,   Germany   (01.06.11)
You seems to be such moronic self hatred jew, if you one? Habibi why you still live in Israel? You need to get out of there to Samalia or Iraq etc. There you will find you peace and justice for all.
86. Salma from "palastin" vs Joav from Babylon
Joav ,   Germany   (01.06.11)
you are wrong hier, should I send you a site from "shalom achshaw"?
87. Leftists.
tejas ,   india   (01.06.11)
Leftists and socialists are cheap, selfist politicial opportunists. They have compassion for the entire world except their own country and own people. They become completely deaf and dumb for the suffering of their own people, but they definitely join the compaigns for welfare of criminals and murderers. I am sad to see this venom spreading in Israel.
88. #77 Nail on head
HCQ ,   USA   (01.06.11)
#77 Ellen,Israel/USA said: "NO FOREIGN entity should be using a NGO to further its' agenda re: Israel, Israel is a sovereign state ( something many seem to forget) , if a foreign government wants Israel to behave a certain way then let their Prime Minister meet with our Prime Minister and discuss their concerns. 89. Response to#57
John R ,   NYC USA   (01.06.11)
Response to your first question is: Turkey and Pakistan(which is irrevelant to this article). Response to your second question is: Israel's own High Court of Justice calls Israel an occupier of remaining Mandate territory. Answer to third question is America conquered Indian land when international law was the law of conquest. That changed with the 1928 Kellogg Briand Treaty. At that point international law became "You cannot gain territory through conquest. It is accademic if it is through a defensive war". Finally Guantanamo is leased from the Cuban Gov't. I have no problem with a mirror, Joav, but it would be nice if you could read my name, JOHN.
90. To #28 What the hell is a "Dovid"?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (01.06.11)
