I don't see how marrying off your 15 year old daughter will help curtail your financial burdens you have with the rest of your 10+ students.While pre marital sex is understandably frowned upon in most religious communities, I don't think its wise to force 15 year olds to undertake responsibilities that are beyond their maturity. Most teenagers have no concept of commitment nor to they have any means of financial support.Besides most people mature much later these days than they used to during our parents generation. I think its unrealistic and illogical for these Rabbis to encourage child marriages given those facts. While overall I think this is a bad idea, the Rabbi makes one good point. How is it that the age of consent to sex is 16 while the age of consent to marriage is 17? If someone is mature enough for one, he or she is mature enough for the other. As it stands, the law essentially is encouraging extra-marital sex.
