1. hey Lieutenant-Colonol,
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.27.11)
do you know really how to take care of your daughter?!
2. how can you shot at a blindfolded person?
bernard refusnik ,   munich   (01.27.11)
3. He should be jailed
Israeli ,   Israel   (01.27.11)
He shot a person and is getting away with it., How is this possible? What kind of army do we have?
4. Why do we care?
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.27.11)
Why do we care about the opinion of a man who supports genocide, and who took a day off to destroy property and attack people? Why not have a headline that says "Zionists condemn harsh punishment for soldier fighting rioters"? or "Zionists call for Egyptian-style riot dispersal"? and Talkbackers 2, 3: the rioter wasn't shot. The soldier discharged a rubber bullet at the ground between the rioters legs.
5. What wounds did he suffer?
Raphael ,   Netanya   (01.27.11)
6. Remember - the Palestinians never do this
Brian Cohen ,   PeoplesFrontofJudea   (01.27.11)
When's the last time a Palestinian military court held a hearing into the actions of a Palestinian who shot and killed an Israeli civilian? Well, I didn't think you'd get that because it was a trick question. There has never been a Palestinian trial of any Palestinians who murdered Israeli civilians. They don't need to. The Palestinians think that they have the right to shoot and kill Israelis. In fact, they've been doing it for decades, and so-called "human rights" organizations around the world support this Palestinian "right to resist the occupation by any means." It shows, of course, that by modern standards the Palestinians are way behind the civilized world when it comes to justice or human rights.
7. to nr. 3.
sjoerd ruurd van der ,   planet earth.   (01.27.11)
"the most moral army in the world" ""in the only democracy in the middle east/perhaps in the whole wide world." do we believe this or do we know better? who knows it may say so. pleasant continuation, success and mazeltov.
8. This is why Palestinians must have independence
Adam ,   Canada   (01.27.11)
This is exactly why the Palestinians must have independence. There will be no justice for them under the "Jewish" state.
9. BORBERG IS A HERO. YNET THE NEW VOICE OF ''PALESTINE''
(01.27.11)
10. Shoot Him What?
Noah Lev ,   hollywood,CAUSA   (01.27.11)
There is a disconnect in Israel, which pervades all aspects of life. Pales who shoot to, maim or kill Jews are honored (street names, etc.). Those arrested go free in the revolving door policy by bot ISRAELand the PA. An Israeli soldier provokes the situation by shooting rubber bullets..and not unexpectedly, the victums clan demands justice, after the verdict.. If he blew the Arabs head off, Id say, they have a point. Is there an appeal process? Israel should limit protests to areas...approved by the police, military..whether the instant problem, or the fence (wall). The country might of course also mimick Egypt/Tunisia..and Lebanon, in its dealings. But we Jews have a higher standard, for better or worse. I am reminded of our main contractor in Iraq...the anguish..and the resultant decision, wherein people WERE killed.

Lt Col Cyborg said the shot was fired at his lower leg, but hit him in the big toe. We care Tel Afib man
12. Let see arabs prosecute terrorists ??
Don Rosenberg ,   Palatine USA   (01.27.11)
All rights to terrorists arabs, no rights for Jews. These whiney, ignorant arabs should move back to their homeland in jordan and arabia and quit complaining. They can't help their own people or build a nation, aka jordan, but want to be parasites in Israel.
13. # 10 @ Noah.
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.27.11)
Noah, the point is the pally was blindfolded & handcuffed when his big toe was shot with a RUBBER bullet. This is a no no in the IDF. No shooting a blindfolded handcuffed person. The court had to set an example here for future incidents of this kind. I was relieved to hear that Bomberg was not kicked out of the IDF & I wish him all the very best of good luck for his future in the IDF. He can now hold his head up...again.
14. # 3
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.27.11)
Borberg did not shoot the pally. Leonardo Corea did, with a rubber bullet.
15. Israel too ?
manugw ,   Buenos Aires   (01.27.11)
Discrimination, double standards ? Israel has always been fighting to avoid these pitfalls. I hope is a mistake.
16. foreget about borburg
moshen   (01.27.11)
Its not borburg who should be in jail, its ehud olmert. Read the new york times article on olmert's memoirs. He proposed that americans should sit on the jordan valley rather than israelis as if americans could probably safeguard israeli interests. And bearing in mind israel has to be its own landlord forever, olmert wants it to be a tenant to the US who has now stupidly and gutlessly abandoned mubrak in the face of dangerous protests, like carter did with the shah, like rice did with abbas in gaza. What an absolute shmuck! Going on, Olmert proposes another famous committee to administer the holy basin including saudi arabia. If a good deal is to be had, then israel and palestine should administer it, not a committee which would be forever deadlocked. Again, israel has to be its own landlord and shared jurisdiction is not acceptable. It needs no one to pray at its holy sites. Then olmert, disregarding 67 and and dfensible borders, wanted to gain only 6.5% of judea while ceding all of it back from israel. Furthur he raced to give up the golan in return for promises and a park in the golan that israelis could use-big bloody deal. Olmert is an absolute ignormaus on security as winograd pointed out. He is the one who said erdogan, an antisemiitic liar is a fair interlocutor. Maybe its not just olmert. I think all those israelis who supported olmert and now livni, like lapid's father, dekel, ramon, beilin, dankner, haaretz writers, amir orens what is it 30% of population is responsible for olmert. You are alll shmucks like him. just adding to olmert's stupidity, Livni in an interview says that it would not be heaven once israel withdraws from the west bank in an agreement, that not much would change, that settlements could not be PA citizens as the arabs would kill them the next day. When asked why would you make a deal knowing that they would kill you the next day, she had no answere. She is as much as shmuck as Olmert. After the holocaust, you want to be a tenants again depending on the overlord to take care of you. Jesus! I This is hard to take. Lieberman should be in charge of negotiations, not this collection of shmucks.
17. #5 good point....all this for a bruised big toe!
Jay3 ,   Israel   (01.27.11)
18. # 12
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.27.11)
Exactly right.
19. # 8
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.27.11)
Yes sure, the palestinians can have their state somewhere in Canada which is large enough to incorporate them. Wonderful idea!
20. Occupation justice
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor   (01.27.11)
Borberg ordered Corea to shoot at a blindfolded prisoner with his hands bound on his back. I understand that the 'rubber' bullit (in fact a steel core with a rubber coating) hit Ashraf Abu Rahme in his big toe and caused a fracture, causing him to limp to this day. But the severity of the injury is not the main point. The fact that a commander gives a blatantly illegal order to shoot a defenseless prisoner, who btw. was arrested only for 'disturbing the peace' is a war crime and to let him escape essentially unpunished is an outrage. This tells Israeli soldiers that in the Occupied Territories they can get away with murder. But do not forget. The world watches and what it sees is an ugly state, which does not care about justice when it comes to Palestinians. Just imagined what would have happened if a Palestinian would have shot a Jew in his foot under the same circumstances.
21. Misleading
Ehud   (01.27.11)
Maybe it is worth while mentioning that nobody is dead, or got seriously hurt? Maybe it is worth mentioning that this we talk about a shot with a rubber bullet in front of someone's feet. Not everybody who violates the rules - and must pay for it - is a bloodthirsty criminal. A little proportion here
22. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.27.11)
Well, I think we can safely assume that since the Lieutenant Colonel is not an Arab, he will not sell his daughter to be the third or fourth wife of an eighty-year old man, nor will he sell her to her uncle. I think we can also safely assume that he would never demand his daughter's death in an "honor" killing. So yes, I'm sure he takes wonderful care of his daughter. Don't you wish you could say the same about Arab fathers?

You come from Germany and you have to ask? Don't you know the history of your own country? A little less false piety, please. You are German; you are drenched in blood. Quite a bit of it Jewish.
24. # 11
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.27.11)
How many times have the palestinian terrorists shot at & killed innocent Jews? Do those terrorists get any kind of punishment if they are not caught by the IDF or the Israeli police. You would'nt know what justice is if it hit you in the face.
25. # 20
(01.27.11)
Thank goodness you can only "watch" & not come to Israel as you have been barred from entering our country. YAY.
26. Is it not irresponsible of this news link
Wisdom ,   UK   (01.27.11)
to ridicule this court decision. A man under pressure made a mistake, no one died, rebuke is part of life for sin, or have you forgotten you are supposed to be Jews and a City of Refuge was for men who murdered by accident. Are the palestinians repentant about knifing two helpless women on a forest walk, giving in to a sadistic spirit NO. If you cannot begin the think clearly and pray clearly and refer to the word of God your articles and infantile reply column is not worth reading really. We were looking for spiritual maturity not foolishness
27. #1 Salma
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (01.27.11)
Hey Salma, sounds to me like that's a threat. I think you should be careful what you say in public and write in print. The Mossad has its eas to the ground.
28. To: No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.27.11)
So when NATO forces -- led by the United States -- carry out indiscriminate and repeated bombing runs in Afghanistan, Iraq and Waziristan, killing tens of thousands of noncombatants in the process, would that be a war crime? By your standards, it most certainly would. So why aren't you pushing to have the NATO pilots -- or, better yet, the generals who sent them -- tried as war criminals? By the way, the analogy in your final sentence is completely inapposite. We know what happens to Jews at the hands of the ersatz "Palestinians" -- we've had seven decades of it, and buried thousands of Jews because of it. Where's your outrage over that?
29. @20 Ben Alofs - Progress
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (01.27.11)
The Lt Col wasn't instantly promoted like happened with Captain R. Then again, he left the guy alive and the guy wasn't a little 13-yr-old school-girl with an M-16 emptied into her already downed and wounded body. You could even say the IDF has learned some morality.
30. #25 Stick to the subject matter
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor   (01.27.11)
I am not being barred from entering. I was denied entry once in 2004, but not since. I visit Israel and the Occupied Territories on a regular basis. But what does this have to do with the matter in hand? Better stick to the subject. How would you qualify this commander's order to shoot at a blindfolded prisoner with his hands bound on his back, who was arrested for demonstrating against the Israeli army's refusal to carry out the ruling of its own Supreme Court, namely to take down the barrier there and hand back the land to the people of Bil/in??
