31. U.S. Presidents Are Figureheads
Mike ,   Portland, USA   (02.12.11)
The truth is that America is a corporatacracy, disguised as a democracy. You don't get to be president unless you show a willingness to be a waterboy for your true employers: military manufacturers; big pharma and predatory industrial outsourcers of U.S. jobs. We do have liberals here like Senator Sanders and Dennis Kucinich but they are allowed to survive as long as they know their place....which is at the bottom rungs of political power. The U.S. is broke. The American empire, is like a huge sailing ship run aground on the rocks. It matters little who is the honorary captain. The U.S. must prepare to withdraw from the middle east. You can make Obama or the next president the bogeyman, but the truth is that the middle east needs to find its own answers. Uncle Sam is being retired, due to bankruptcy, from his role as world policeman. He will be lucky if he can put food on his own table; never mind help others. Google: peak oil, peak food, and overpopulation.
32. Perhaps Israel should change its name to 'Dystopia'
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (02.12.11)
I continually wonder whether or not there is something in Israel which promotes a weird sense of paranoia and other psychotic tendencies. It is not the US president's job to prop up unpopilar governments over the will of domestic peaceful opposition. Especially, not at the behest of a foreign country. Apparently, because Mubarak was a toady, lining his own pockets while consigning his own people to desperate conditions you wish him to remain in power. For he was 'good for Israel'. And you act as if the Egyptian revolution was a personal affront. Franky, I doubt the Egyptians care what you think one way or the other. As the world changes, and domestic oppostion to authoritarian regimes in the Arab world coalesces, you would think that 'democracies', even faux democracies like Israel, would welcome representative governments by the people. Yet, you are terrified. Why? Because there may be a political price to pay for Israeli actions? And neither you nor the US can purchase leaders who will allow you to do anything you want with impunity? It is truly ironic how the Arabs are seeking more democracy and liberty while Israel wishes to curtail such ideas. You are on the wrong side of history.
33. Obama's not stupid, Mubarak 82 & Suleiman 74, changes were
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (02.13.11)
coming any way. Better this way for US than a military coup later, even if its dangerous.
34. Obama Utopia
John ,   Sinia   (02.14.11)
You make democracy sound like a bad policy. If democracy is the will of the majority and is not co-opted, then we must accept the results. No where is democracy defined as getting only what YOU want. Your reasoning leads to tyranny not the freedom to differ all should seek.
35. For people that don't understand what democracy means
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (03.03.11)
Democracy is a form of political organization in which all people, through consensus (consensus democracy), direct referendum (direct democracy), or elected representatives (representative democracy) exercise equal control over the matters which affect their interests.[1] The term comes from the Greek: δημοκρατία – (dēmokratía) "rule of the people", Now is that what we want in the middle east. Most would say yes, however when the likes of Hamas get elected then we don't want it. It is a bad situation but life does go on.
