1. i weeped today
fad egypt   (02.13.11)
when his pic was removed from the prime minister office egypt which was considered a strategic partner to israel in the war against hamas , iran and radical islam has become unstable with uncertain future no one knows who will lead the country especially after sulieman is no longer the vice president and the people themselves dont know what actually they want and they dont understand politics or democracy shame on hussein obama for forcing mubarak to leave if mubarak had remained until september , sulieman would ve been able to run and win but now the situation is vague
2. I agree
mike Cato ,   usa   (02.13.11)
I completely agree. This is precisely why the IDF and the Israeli government must make plans NOW for the retaking of all or part of the Sinai and the re-occupation of Gaza.
3. Uncivilised indeed...
John ,   Jerusalem   (02.13.11)
...and ignorant to boot! If you are genuinely worried about "hands and tongues and ears and noses cut off and the heads of “rebels” severed" then look no further than the US client kingdom of Saudi Arabia. No doubt you'd shed tears if Abdullah went too? Hamas - for all their many many faults - don't actually go in for that type of thing.
4. And then you wonder why they hate you?
berlonski ,   berlin   (02.13.11)
There is a people who gets rid of a dictator and at the same time you stress facst like that the very same dictator at least wore a tie and delivered gas to Israel for a good price? And then you wonder why many Egyptians think of Israelis as an arrogant and selfish people? Ok, I agree, that most of the Western politicians behaved like opportunists and hypocrites. But at least they have a bit of feeling for common sense and reality left. This article lacks both. And do you really think that Sarkozy, Merkel & their colleagues fear Islamist mass revolution in their own capitals? My goodness, what are your news sources? The ones of Al-Qaida?
5. Mr Haber, people like you .....
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (02.13.11)
With your constant babbling about ''peace'' & your eagerness to give away land in return for worthless pieces of paper, have jeopardized our security, perhaps even jeoparadized our very existence. Was there ever a concession you were against? Was there ever a retreat from territory you didn't support? Now you're worried?
6. WELL SAID ,GREAT ARTICLE
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (02.13.11)
A black day now Mubarak has gone.
7. All of us didn't believe the media lies...
Bella ,   US   (02.13.11)
I am ashamed of how this arrogant, ignorant White House and State Dept treated President Mubarak. The US could have been a friend and assisted Egypt through the September transition, but no. We will all pay for this disgraceful power play. My prayers are with the leaders and all the people of Israel and Egypt.
8. #3
(02.13.11)
no, hamas doesn't go for "that kind of thing"...only for throwing their adversaries from roof tops, blowing their knee caps with a bullet, executing adversaries they "think" cooperated with israel in the head in the public square, beating their adversaries in jail, torturing them until they die or simply raiding homes of fatah supporters and shooting anyone in sight. surely hamas is "not corrupt" as well???? now let's see. hamas got every penny from the tunnel industry and how do you think hmas in gaza wears expensive suits and italian shoes traveling all over the world? come on now, do not be shy, explain yourelf please. there is no difference between hamas, islamic brotherhood, al qaida, and any other corrupt terrorist organization on planet earth and you know it as everyone knows it. hameed aboughaze, iranian
9. Looking into Obama's eyes.
Steve   (02.13.11)
Much of what Mr. Haber writes here is little doubt true - in terms of world leader's fears - with the exception of Barack Hussein Obama. What does Mr. Obama want? What do Egyptians want? According to a Pew Research survey conducted last year, 54% of Egyptians said suicide bombings are justified "rarely," "sometimes" and "often." 84% believe apostates from Islam should face the death penalty. 77% believe thieves should be flogged or have their hands cut off, etc. Qur'an prescribes amputation for theft. When I look into Mr. Obama's eyes, I do not see fear but evil. Let's not forget, President Obama ran with Muslim activists, jihadists and their sympathizers (Rashid Khalidi, the late Edward Said, etc.), anti-Semites and racists like Jeremiah Wright, his entire adult life. Those who follow this White House know a welcome mat is there for Muslim Brotherhood activists in the U.S. What does Obama want? Obama made a point of inviting members of Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt to his June 2009 speech at Al Azhar University in Cairo; a university where every scholar publicly justifies suicide / homicide bombings when innocent Jewish men, women and children are killed for Allah. President Mubarak had the good sense to not attend the Obama speech. What does Obama want for Israel and the Middle East? Stay tuned.
10. My tears are for Israeli's lunatic Sinai retreat.
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.13.11)
According to Haber, Israel should put her security, welfare and survival in the hands of asupposedly reliable Arab dictator like Mubarak. What stupidity! Israel wasn't created so that Jews would have to rely on the good will of some Arab tyrant. Or cross our fingers and hope a relatively benign Arab tyrant isn't replaced by a more bloodthirsty one. My tears are for Israel's lunatic retreat from Sinai. My tears are for the magnificent Sinai and it's immense strategic and military value. My tears are for the powerful air bases we had in Sinai - easily capable of destroying virtually any attack. My tears are for the incalculable oil and tourist wealth we lost when we ceded the Sinai. Israel's real problem in Egypt is not the loss of another Arab dictator. It is our lunatic retreat from Sinai.
11. Autocrats Create extremism not withholding it !!!
BigT   (02.13.11)
What a load of nonsense. People like Mubarak are the ones who create extremism. You wrongfuly claim that he is a good guy, really!!!. I advice you to read a little about social science before you write this nonsense!!!
12. #5 PEOPLE LIKE HABER ??
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (02.13.11)
I am surprised at you Terrance .Haber did not give away the Sinai in exchange for a toffee and a piece of paper .It was Menachem Putz Begin .
13. GOODBYE
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (02.13.11)
Goodbyee ;Don't cryee ;wipe the tear Haber dear from your eyee ;no sighee ;no cryee ;there's a silver lining in the skyee .
14. stupid
ZD ,   SYRIA   (02.13.11)
if you liked Mubarak,it was only because he was a subservient traitor to you.so your keep scaring the west of an Islamic tsunami. rest assure the tsunami will head just toward the occupied Palestinian home land to sweep and clean the alien entity of yours.
15. Apparently, Israelis would laud Pol Pot or the Hutus...
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (02.13.11)
So long as they were 'friends' of Israel. Is that the only yardstick you use? He was a crook and dictator and his own people threw him out. Deservedly so. Save your cocodile tears and reflect upon the fact that opinions like yours, apparently shared by the majority of Israeli Jews and other zionists, are the reasons so many of your neighbors do not trust nor like you.
16. #14 I AM GLAD TO HEAR IT
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (02.13.11)
Please do me the honour / courtesy of letting me know in advance so I can make sure to be at home and not to miss it.
17. Well - The Western leaders certainly Deceives Themselves !.
Orao. ,   Srbia.   (02.13.11)
They will lick the Ases of Sunni Islam to get Oil and their Economies Working, but, even the Moderates of Islam would Turn against them in the End. When the Treath from Radical Islam is gone, Western Europe will Taste Islams true Nature. Orao.Srbia.
18. Chaim #10: You're right.
Steve   (02.13.11)
19. Lawrence #13: The silver lining....
Steve   (02.13.11)
Only an idiot would contemplate or mention surrendering any more strategic Jewish land. Land needs to be reacquired. It needs to reconquered and re-occupied; not surrendered.
20. to #15 "Mikesailor"
double ,   standard   (02.13.11)
Never seen you campaigning against Mubarak, not against any other arab dictator, nor a random autocrat, how comes? Do you not care?
21. MY TRIBUTE TO MUBARAK
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (02.13.11)
We'll meet again ,don;t know where don't know weyn (where in arabic ) ; But I know we'll meet again in sharm -e- sheikh .
22. You can have him ...
Louay ,   TX, USA   (02.13.11)
If you so much like him, nominate him to be the next ruler of Israel. He will be a perfect fit with the oppressors from Likud, Shas, Kahanist , and Liberman's gang. The sad part about this commentary is the constant villainization of Islam from some voices in the Jewish faith. Yes from theology stand point Islam and Judaism are not compatible, but that did not prevent Muslims from tolerating Jews (Andalusia is a prime example.) I think these last events in Egypt should make Israelis do some soul searching to improve their image in the Arab world .. and surely that is not by following the trail of Bibi and Lieberman ..
23. great article, @9 and @ 15
nva ,   jerusalem   (02.13.11)
This was a right on the money article Haber...you and i may often be in opposite camps on some issues but i agree 98% (the 2% goes w/ #9 who shuddered at looking into obama's eyes..no fear there ..in fact, i am sure he felt rewarded, not for democracy but for the advancement of islamist theology. ) and #15, I am an Israeli Jew, a Zionist and Mr Haber speaks for me because on this issue he knows exactly what he talks about...Mr.Sailor, you live in Miami...I live next door to Egypt. You don't really know anything about the reality here. Best you comment only on Florida issues..... I continue to be amazed at the ignorance of the very people who read Ynet...don't you understand what you read? .
24. Israel concerned over its "special" gas price
Rami ,   Egypt   (02.13.11)
Of course Israel is upset at this revolution, the corrupt traitor Mubarak sold them gas at below-market prices. It wouldn't surprise me if Mubarak was hiding away in Israel now. He loved Israel more than his own country and Arab people. Good riddance to that scum dictator.
25. Mubarak for PM of Israel
Rami ,   Egypt   (02.13.11)
Let this corrupt dictator be the prime minister of Israel. He was always a zionist puppet anyway. It makes sense.
26. You people disgust me
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (02.13.11)
It's mind-boggling that a nation that had to fight for its survival so many times, a nation that had no freedom for millennia, a nation that had to contend with every two-bit despot roughing us up for centuries, should be so eager to deny another people its right to freedom. And not just that, but it seems to espouse and coopt every nasty piece of work on the planet. We have just begun living down our despicable cooperation with the apartheid-era South Africa; now we have to extol Mubarak, when he is being denounced by every right-thinking human being on this planet. The only other sources of support are despots even worse than he a la Qadafi and the Al-Sauds. Truly great company we're keeping.
27. The Israeli Crocodile's Tears (I)
Mihai-Robert Soran ,   EU   (02.13.11)
True, there is an Islamist tsunami nobody has ever seen and nobody has ever felt. Iran didn't experience a tsunami, tsunamis are global, not limited to some artificial borders... But there is a Judaist tsunami as well, a regional one that swaps beyond Israel's borders right into the territory of another nation: Palestine. As an European resident with Israeli passport I can just laugh about Haber's ignorance (or more probably just rogue propaganda): No, we don't fear an Islamist tsunami in Europe. Islamism may let a threefold wave of waves (sic!), each of them a few inches tall, reach the coasts of Europe or North America, Not more, Islam is a tiny minority and will stay so for at least two generations to come. Regardless of Islamists at power in Muslimia or not, those countries still must sell to us in order to survive. They got some oil left, we got money printed faster than we can get rid of it :-) To be continued --->
28. #5: Terry - are you...
Rafi ,   US   (02.13.11)
a thug? You certainly express yourself like one... I'm certain that Mr Haber has given no less for his country than you. Even if you don't agree with him, he is entitled to express his views. And, in your case, hearing some alternative views might actually be useful.
29. #10 Chaim - Excellent comment!
Schreiber   (02.13.11)
