31. No double standards
Hans Muller ,   Hamburg   (02.14.11)
Israel is in violation of several treaties, UN resolutions and international laws they occupy, annex, violate human rights, breaks laws of war and do all sorts of illegal things. So when Egypt abolishes the treaty just shut up and take it.
32. Land for Peace
Mark ,   USA   (02.14.11)
The "peace treaty" with Egypt, was in fact a non-belligerency agreement, in order to buy America's $1.5 billion in annual aid. This revolution will end this notion of giving up land for peace. It has always been based upon a false premise. No amount of land, save for total annihilation of Israel, will bring any kind of peace between Israel and the arab world. Israel needs to wake up and stop trying to buy everyone's love. Who cares?? Israel has the 22nd largest economy in the world, and the most competitive in the middle east. Israel's only issue has always been her increasing 5th column. It is better to fight them outside of Israel's border, than within them. I don't mean to be pessimistic, but rather am a realist. Until the arab world stops teaching incitement in their schools, there will never be peace. Peace is between peoples, and not governments. And there was never peace between the average Egyptian or Jordanian, and Israel. Again, who cares????
33. Proof of the futility of paper peace`
art ,   jersey city usa   (02.14.11)
Peace is based upon people to people relations. Egypt, Jordan pa et al have consistantly REFUSED to normalize relations Now we can see that there is going to be no peace . Unfortunately Obama/hillary/carter can not be relied upon. Note to Cotter#3 242 does NOT require withdrawal from ALL territory Read to original documents
34. shocked, shocked!
Paul Freedman ,   Falls Church, USA   (02.14.11)
Who knew? There's a peace treaty with Egypt?????
35. To #9 anthony davis
The Mad Zionist ,   SF, CA   (02.14.11)
I would love to hear what you would be saying if israel let loose. It was people like you that told israel in 73 to not attack egypt and that egypt is not about to attack. Israel which usually pre-emptively strikes did not then. we should not have been so loyal toi america, we should have attacked first. israel fights for security, not land conquer, thats exactly why after getting the sinai they swapped it for peace. You will never see an arab country giving back land after winning a war. If israel feels that their security and livelihood is at stake you will see a war with no holds barred. Just look at 1948 war, israel with no weaponry and no military aid deafeted 7 arab countries. Thanks to outdated weapons from world war 2 israel survived. And By the way, the arab countries always had more funding from russia than israel has ever gotten from another country. Anthony, I gurantee that america will NEVER have a better friend than israel. Sadly, its the cool thing to bash israel these days. Im sure you are just following whatever else other people say, get a life, and learn some history while youre at it. Am yisrael chai 8itch
36. Nobody is looking for war
Nagy ,   Egypt   (02.14.11)
First to No. 19 the Egyptian military was not destroyed in 1973 after the crossing of some Israeli units to the Suez Canal west side. In fact Israel tried to catch two small Egyptian cities (e.g. Suez) and the operation failed. We can say that the war at the end was like a stalemate. Mr. Ayman Noor opinion is his own opinion, and he is not an Egyptian official. And the guy never mentions war in his words, but it seems our Israeli friends are looking for war. Egypt has no open issues with Israel and we are not looking for wars.
37. do it now
Keren   (02.14.11)
don't delay with taking back the Sinai or more Jewish young lives will be lost unnecessarily. israel needs to wake up and smell the cairo body odor
38. Thank you, Mr. Obama, for helping to bring upon us this
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.14.11)
attitude of the people you have supported, the once who question whether or not a peace treaty with Israel is of interest; or, in translation, if Israel has the right to even exist... I hope the American Jewish community takes note of this, another of Obama's "contributions" to a better society, one without peace...!!
39. to # 3
fad egypt   (02.14.11)
you are wrong first: the resolution 242 doesnt obligate israel to retreat to the so called 1967 borders but to a new defensible borders second: late prime minister menahem begin refused to compromise on judea and samaria and gaza strip and of cousre on jerusalem and the talks were on the verge of collapse so sadat under carter pressure decided to give up on the so called palestinian territories and said sinai is enough
40. No.9 A few facts
John Phee ,   Sydney, AUSTRALIA   (02.14.11)
I agree the Sinai belongs to modern Egypt no problem there. But in' 73 the Egyptians success lasted only 24 hours. The Egyptians vastly outnumbered the Israelis. The Egyptian missile defense umbrella kept the Israeli Air Force out very successfully. But only for a day. Finally after a few days the Egyptian 3rd Army was encircled & faced destruction. It would have taken a bit of time as they were still in a combat capable status. Israeli tanks & troops were on the West Bank of the canal & in a position to advance on Cairo. There was no significant opposition. Now explain who that is a whipping to Israel. Your comment is as unfounded as the extreme views the other way
41. The lethal axis
mike cato ,   USA   (02.14.11)
Nour is the perfect expression of the new and lethal axis of the socialist/extreme Left and the Islamic fundamentalists. Guess who will kill the other, in the end.
42. Ethiopia & Israel vs. Egypt (Nile War)
Ethiojegna ,   Addis Ababa Ethiopia   (02.14.11)
Time for conflict. Ethiopia is building multiple dams along the Nile River surrounded with Anti-Aircraft batteries and radars. Egypt will cease to exist as a country soon. It will be the next SOMALIA
43. The G-d of Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob
Hebrew Christian ,   USA   (02.14.11)
is on Israel's side. HE will lead you in battle as the need arises, like HE has done in the past.
44. WHAT THE HELL DOES HE CARE ?
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.14.11)
Ayman Nour will be at home, living the good life, sending out his young men to satisfy his blood lust Most people say that with age, comes wisdom, in his case it's senility He forgot about all the wars Egypt lost to Israel
45. My support is unbounded! God oversees Israel too
DANNY ,   America   (02.14.11)
46. William #19: Your rebuttal is excellent!
Israeli 2   (02.14.11)
It is so very heartening to read another intelligent and honest talkback as you just did. Please stay with us for more.
47. Ask what benefit is it to Egypt to enforce siege of Gaza
Joyce D ,   USA   (02.14.11)
Why should Egypt continue with a policy with a huge negative backlash? France and Germany were against the US invasion of Iraq. Egypt sent troops and sided with America. That infuriated most Eqyptians and many Americans including me.
48. Nour DOES have ties to Muslim Bros.
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (02.14.11)
Nour, ElBaradei and the Muslim Brotherhood joined forces to bring down Mubarak (see report from Bloomberg: ""Elbaradei Rallies Egyptian Opposition Amid Protests" Jan. 31, 2011). Nour has had US support for several years, from Condoleeza Rice, Ambassador Margaret Scobey and others.
49. Land for peace doesn't last forever and does not work
(02.14.11)
50. Egyptian Opposition is Muslim Brotherhood
Brod ,   USA   (02.14.11)
The fanatical Islamist-Jihadist Muslim Brotherhood-Mother of all Islamist-Jihadist terrorism around the world, is now emerging. It seems that Obama facilitated ushering it in by ousting America's friend an ally-Mubarak. There are no democrats among the protesters. All of them are members and/or supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood. Western Leftist media was naive and idiotic to think that the protesters were Jeffersonian democrats. These idiots need to read a lot more literature about the Muslim Brotherhood to know the threat it poses to Egypt, the region, Israel, America, the West and the world.
51. At this rate of "changes" we can soon expect USA to threaten
tom ,   tel aviv   (02.14.11)
Israel with military action should we refuse to comply with the "suicide-express" the Obama administration wants us to embark on.
52. Bibi can start the planning
Ralph Haglund ,   Lund, Sweden   (02.14.11)
with getting rid of Barak, who hates nationalist Jews more than he hates Muslim terrorists. Barak represents nobody but himself and his enormous ego and desire to be given power from Bibi. He runs around playing foreign minister like he was paid for it.
53. #8 Lawrence
Non-Jew ,   England   (02.14.11)
Hey Lawrence, I thought you were (are) a rapper? You must be getting on a bit for a rapper, if you were so mature and politically astute 30 yrs ago, lol! Kol Hakavod to you, there's hope for me yet!!
54. #3 Cotler
Andy ,   Canada   (02.14.11)
That is not what 242 says. Read it again, very, very carefully. And also realize that 242 would be a joint agreement and not unilateral on Israel's part. See any Pals accepting Israel's right to exist as a Jewish country lately? As opposed to the weasel words they usually use in public?
55. Israel deserves real peace
Salim S. ,   Canada   (02.14.11)
Israel should not consider turning over even a millimeter of territory for any treaty such as the Camp David Accords. These so-called "peace" treaties are as easy to tear up as any other "piece" of paper. The statements of the Egyptian opposition should be a wake up call to any diehard Israeli leftists... if any are obstinate enough to still hold to those unrealistic positions. Everyone was satisfied that there was a peace treaty with Egypt even if it was a cold peace. If the true intentions of their people were to take advantage of the unbelievable opportunities that peace with Israel could offer them, there wouldn't be millions of poor people for the Muslim Brotherhood to prey on.
56. Before threatening with war, make sure you have enough food!
(02.14.11)
Most Egypt's citizens live off $100/month. I don't see them looking forward to living off $50/month! Any Egyptian president must prioritize economy and commerce, and worry less about Israel. Otherwise he may well see army returning to the Sinai Peninsula, but nothing guarantees that that army will be Egyptian. On the contrary.
57. #36 Cognitive dissonance and demagogy...
(02.14.11)
Yeah, sure, Egypt did not lose the '73 War (which it started)... Losing Sinai, begging the Americans to reign in the Israeli Army, preventing it from occupying Cairo was a stalemate? Wel my friend, maybe you should take another puff from that Nargila. Eventually you'll even buy the claim that the '73 War was an Egyptian victory. And if your leaders think about breaching the peace accord with Israel, they will be going a very dangerous path - one which practically guarantees that next time, nobody will stop Israelis 101km from Cairo. Besides, a war with Israel will not bring more food on the Egyptian tables - on the contrary. It will transform Egypt into yet another failed, racist and impoverished Muslim tyranny, similar to all other Muslim "heavens". If this is what you want, marhaba. Breach your agreements, start a war and bear the consequences.
58. There's nothing like a jolly war for the people to distract
tom ,   tel aviv   (02.14.11)
themselves from the daily problems of lack of bread &work.... "Yitbakh Yahood", here we come!!!!
59. Treaty
Art Schwartz ,   Laguna Woods / Ca.   (02.14.11)
And so it begins. Wake up J Street, Schumer, Boxer, and the rest of you. You will not be exempt from the from the anti-semetic sunami that will follow if Israel falls. After-all, whether or not you have a sign on your doorpost, you are all still nothing more than Jews.
60. Camp David is over
eli ,   Yerushalayim   (02.14.11)
Only a few questions: 1. So we will get the Sinai back? 2. .."its terms must be improved..." Does he mean the looser has to demand more things from the winner of the wars and does he mean, that, if Israel will not follow his demands he will start a war? It seems, everybody can see now how stupide the formula "land for peace" is. 3. Which improvements he wants? More Land? - Please take Gaza now. It's our pleasure. You didn't want it once. But take care on Iran. 4. Is war an improvement of peace?
