61. No. 18
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (02.14.11)
Another self-hating Jew. We're pretty disgusted with you too. Not surprised that most of your folks love hussein Barack - most of the Jews seem to have oted for him. Jews liek you are quite obnoxious.
62. Nothing more dangerous to Israel than self-loathing Jews
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (02.14.11)
suffering from acute Stockholm Syndrome. Who the hell does this Freidman think he is .... America is disgusting under nobama. What kind of peopel throw their allies under the bus. 30 years Mubarak has been a 'invaluable ally' ...5 days into the process the US and UK drop him like a hot potato. Israel with 'friends' like these - you don't need any enemies. The people of the US are your friend - not the current closet islamic admin.
63. Friedman's Egypt
Jerry ,   USA   (02.14.11)
Mr. Friedman would have best concentrated on the nature of Egyptian society. It is the model awaiting the United States thanks in main part to Mr. Obama. Egyptian governmental bureaucracy prevents the development and support of small business that is the foundation of democracy. Egypt illustrates the difficulty societies have of maintaining and building democracy when government takes a leading role in running the culture. Want to see a real revolution in Egypt. Wait until the Government tries to reduce the number of governmental sinecures.
64. White House disgusted with Israel?
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (02.14.11)
(Snort. Chortle. Giggle). BWAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh stop. Puh-lease. You're killing me, Friedman. Man. He should have worked the Catskills borscht belt. Milton Berle, Youngman would have stolen "Bubbeh Mises" from him. Listen Chaver. the occupants of the White house are still looking for the toilet, and are approximately a light year behind the curve on events in the US; no less the muddled middle east.
65. Friedman is overexcited...again
Anton Orde ,   This week Gabarone   (02.14.11)
While some of his analysis is incisive, he and his fellow columnist Roger Cohen get overexcited and ahead of themselves when new events break. There is no far from certainty in predicting egypt's future. There are too many factor militating against democracy, internal and external. In the medium term the threat of conflict with it's African neighbors looms... I think he starts believing in his own prescience sometimes.
66. What? Eqypt was headed by a Dictator?
Superhero ,   Johannesburg RSa   (02.14.11)
The liberal left was so quite up to now that who would have ever guessed that Egypt was ruled by a dictator. So if any one has slipped-up it's the liberal left - who are still trying to point fingers at Israel. Why should Israel not be thankful to Maburak for 30 years of peace? Should we rather be happier when Egypt becomes Islamofacist and seeks the distruction of Israel? In this neighbourhood there are no guarentees.
67. Out of Touch
Diamond Tom ,   lagos, Nigeria   (02.14.11)
I think it is the US government that is out of touch with the Israeli government You cannot bend or break Israeli government in order to strengthen the Palestinians and the Arabs.Today America has made Israel weak diplomatically because it is always forcing them them to bend .So if you you don't want to bend or break then you are out of touch. The US is after his interest in the region and Israel is also after its security and national interest so there must be mutual respect from both parties in other to broker a deal .Israel is a sovereign Nation and the US must stop treating Israel as a colony or a vassal state. They have the right to say yes or no that is what make friendship to be mutual Because it is the Israelis that will bear the realities of a flawed peace deal that would compromise their national security and heritage.
68. Hey Tommy come lately. Check in a month
Ilan ,   Ariel   (02.14.11)
When there is a stable government heading to democracy and not into chaos give us a call and perhaps we can revise our opinion. Our country's future is not going to be decided by a egoist columnist's flatulence and bluster. Friedman has a record of being wrong more often than right. But he doesn't keep track of facts that well.
69. you are what you are
roni   (02.14.11)
you are 100% American, shallow, and blind if you think your dear president is doing a spot on job.
70. Too much football without a helmet
roni   (02.14.11)
71. Friedman makes money off barking at Jews and the Jewish...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.14.11)
...state!! This "journalist" is simply despicable, having little concept of reality but that of Bethesda, MD, in which he resides, disconnected totally from why we, Israeli Jews, view the world around us the way we do, based on reality in Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv, Haifa, Beer Sheva, Metulah, S'derot, Kibbutz Dafnah, Kibbutz Nirim, etc.. etc. Friedman has become a mouthpiece to Mr. Barack (derived from the Arabic Barakah, the blessed one) Hussein (the Iamam, grandson of the 7th century "prophet") Obama (a common Muslim-African last name). And the occupant of the Oval Office, sadly, is inherently and through education after 20 years of "sitting under" the Rev. J. Wright, has a deep hostility toward the nation-state of the Jewish people, as he has demonstrated so many times, and by extension toward the people whose nation-state is Israel.
72. Friedman and others are the ones...
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (02.14.11)
That don't get it. I believe that in Friedman's heart he wants the best for people in general. But sadly, he is simply being used by the forces of evil. He could learn from Tony Blair who recently articulated the situation most elegantly. He stated that and I'll paraphrase him: " that fundamentally these people hate us and our way of life, that we need to stop apologizing as if we are the cause for radicalism that exists in that community because that is false and a misreading of the situation " So here we have Friedman and some (not Friedman) self hating Jewish people, siding with Obama. Friedman is simply blinded by his ego, having been referred to as a specialist on the Middle East for so long he believes his own press reputation. But the fact is, he has zero experience as a negotiator, he only observes and comments based on what his Muslim friends tell him. They, practicing the art of Taqiyya have him believing this nonsense. Frankly, it was Obama that mishandled this affair, and Israel publicly kept quiet, and whatever they said in private to the U.S. administration should have been held in confidence. Why Friedman would say and write about these private affairs makes him a danger to all Jewish people worldwide, why allow yourself to be used as a pawn? Many ideas are expressed during a crisis, just to run them up the flagpole, Friedman denies Israel that right, and it sickens me! Shouldn't any country be allowed to express private feelings and have them remain private, like the doctor/patient relationship? How can any leader make a decision if he can't get a myriad of opinions from multiple source's, without traitors like Friedman selectively leaking these comments?
73. Friedman lives in fear of an American Kristallnacht
Gobbo   (02.14.11)
There's growing anti-Israel and anti-Jewish sentiment in the USA, and who knows where it might lead. People are angry because of the wars, the economy, the debt, the threat of terrorism, and if things keep getting worse, Jews will be blamed for everything. As usual. Friedman, like some other Jews, sends regular messages out to the angry mob, reminding them that he's exceptional. "Spare me! Spare me! I'm not like those evil Jews in Israel!" This is what Churchill called "feeding the crocodile in the hope that he'll eat you last."
74. And Israael is disgusted with Thomas Friedman!
ezer   (02.14.11)
75. Hey Tom
tz   (02.14.11)
Why don't you crawl back under your rock?!? So brilliant! Not!!!
76. Friedman's delusion
Sidney ,   USA   (02.14.11)
He has convinced himself that he is a latter day prophet who knows everything better than anyone else. The New York Times does not allow pro-Israel columnists. Just read the comments to their columns by readers and you will discover that their readership is like Haaretz's, basically Israel haters. Unfortunately, for both publications, many are Jews who are too dumb to realize that they themselves will be hurt by encouraging anti-Semitism. Sort of like the stupid German Jews in early Hitler days.
77. What Shmuck, easy for you to talk a about democracy when....
Joe Black ,   NYC   (02.14.11)
riding on your high horse, easy for you to talk about Israel and her security from where your standing. Israel had to fend for itself and fight wars of survival against the entire Mid East. What a total shmuck this guy is! You think it has been easy for Israel to be a democracy with arabs in Knesset salivating for the opportunity to stab you in the back. This is the kind of person that would keep insulting you until your under the guillotine. With Friends like Tom, who needs Enemies?
78. I thought Israel was at peace with Egypt
Frank ,   Canada   (02.14.11)
Friedman is telling us what Obama will do when Egyptians will break the peace treaty with Israel. They will support them and put the blame on Israel. This is the most repulsive betrayal ever.
79. Wow....so much venom to avoid the truth
CaryK ,   Florida   (02.14.11)
By all means keep shooting the messenger. Don't worry that Friedman once proposed sending NATO to protect Israel. Don't worry that an increasing number of people--including many Americans--agree with his analysis. Keep hanging on to your delusions and soon you will lose the support of your last ally (the US.)
80. Please disclose he is on the Saudi Payroll
Joseph ,   Miami, USA   (02.14.11)
It it widely known Friedman is in the Saudi payroll like many former U.S ambassadors, just make it clear to the readers for the sake of clarity
81. American Jewish Community Turning Away
World Citizen ,   the world   (02.14.11)
Well you will always have the American JDL and Kach fanatics but the others can see where your colonial empire building is taking you. Maybe five years is all you have left to do the right thing. From the sound of the talkbacks in here I doubt you will make it. The civilized world has had enough of your intransigence and lies.
82. Friedman's Perspective Is Skewed Because Of One Fact!
Robert Blum ,   New York USA   (02.14.11)
Just as the BBC & other media, you leftist revisionist Friedman, you glossed over the fact that the Egyptians were also screaming anti-Israel and Jewish slogans & epithets in the streets during their revolt against Mubarak. So if Egyptians really want democracy, of which they have only a vague idea about it, they shopuld have been screaming that they want to become like Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East!
83.  ".When comes the Revolution " !
Roland Seener ,   London England   (02.14.11)
He is a No -Policy ...abusive impudent President ...(except when he sends lackeys out to deal with Israel.)The writing will soon be on the wall ! . ...Next election perhaps ? And then America' prestige will once again be restored by a determined capable Republican President who will right the wrongs that Obama has made,is making, and will continue to make !
84. friedman is just a grown up version of the
jason white ,   afula,israel   (02.14.11)
wimpy kid we all smacked around in the third grade. The kid with the imaginary friends and stories. The weird kid that no one liked. The New York slims is another failed newspaper that was saved by carlos slim. Too bad slim wasted his money on a worthless rag read by fools.
85. Tom Friedman's Rantings
Jadzia ,   London UK   (02.14.11)
Tom Friedman is not concerned about Israel. His concern are his readers, whom he he imagines to be woolly liberals.
86. Freedman
Ken ,   Australia   (02.14.11)
You are a complete nut case, israel has alot of friends in egypt but will never have them all. What was so great about your presidents response, he was so out of touch with the position he holds - President- , it was like a stubborn little child talking it up to his little mates. What unfolded in egypt is unforseen territory and not one individual out there can make any predictions, your Obama used his own retoric as he never has anything else to say because he is one track minded. Hopey, changey, feely stuff in the US maybe, but becareful what you say about mass protests in the largest middle east country in world you, cant act like a child as US president and speak like a kid. What happened in Egypt is a disgrace and has been handled as such - the dissmay in Egypt should have been about turned before this happened.
87. Tommy the Saudi's goat boy
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (02.14.11)
Lest anyone forget, Tommy was out of his mind with delight that he was chosen by the Saudis to present their "Terms of Surrender Initiative" to the Jewish people.
88. he has an israeli problem
a ash ,   nyc   (02.14.11)
who cares ---and time will see him wrong
89. American Jews disgusted with Friedman
Besalel ,   Great Neck, NY   (02.14.11)
If I recall correctly, it was the White House that danced backed and forth between demanding Mubarak's immediate departure and agreeing that he stays until the next election. Obama's position on Egypt was incoherent. If I recall correctly, Ehud Barak actually said that its up to Egypt to find its way under its own constitution. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4027023,00.html
90. Oh, that's okay
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.14.11)
Israel is pretty disgusted with the White House.
