The Goldstone Report was great PR for the Arabs, but as a factual document it was completely discredited. Now of course all the anti-Israel writer's look to it as gospel, but any objective review found it nothing but baseless propaganda. For instance in the report using Palestinian sources (always a mistake) the report stated and I quote: "PCHR divides the overall 1,417 victims into 926 civilians, 255 police and 236 combatants" Yet Here: "Hamas Interior Minister Fathi Hamad's admission that Hamas and affiliated militias lost 600-700 fighters" The source: Hamad's comments were made in an interview published in the London Arabic daily Al Hayat on Nov. 1, 2010 So even the most basic accusations of the Goldstone report (how many combatants 236 were killed) were less than half in the report, which is false (the number of combatants killed were 600-700 according to the Hamas leader (Yet it was ignored). The rest of the report is no better. So Israel is quite comfortable knowing the UN will lie, no matter what action Israel decides to take. In a way, that frees Israel to do whatever is necessary to protect its citizens.

Hamas has no firm hand over lesser groups, and is that fractured internally? I've seen no true indicators lately that Hamas wasn't firmly in control of Gaza, and that other groups really do nothing without Hamas first giving a wave of approval.

Hamas had no difficulty in decisevely overcoming the well armed & numerous members of Fatah who tried to remain in power in Gaza. Hamas had also no problem in decimating other rival groups such as Jund Ansar Allah in 2009. How come then, there are still small clans in Gaza which are "apparently" able to operate "independanly" from Hamas? One plausible explanation is that Hamas finds it convenient to use them as proxies in the hope it won't be accused of terrorism, avoid Israeli reprisals & do not endanger the flow of foreign subsides. These small groups provide a cover for Hamas the same way as Hezbollah is used by Iran & Syria. Anarchy is not evident in Gaza. Among the Muslim lands of Africa & the Middle-East , Gaza is one of the few where there is no sign of protests even less of violent revolt against the regime. The Hamas is in control.
