61. unifil = unifool. what a waste
martin ,   uk   (03.31.11)
after the next round in lebanon. israel should tell the un that their uniformed military are worthless, particularly when the troops inferior arms to hezbullah. also their troops represent their govts attitude. why send norwegians there? they offer direct and illegal help to hezbullah as has been proven.
62. #61
Bob ,   South Lebanon   (03.31.11)
First, UNIFIL has ZERO Norwegans. Second, SC Resolution 1701 does not task UNIFIL to disarm Hezbollah nor does it task UNIFIL to protect Lebanon. Please get your facts correct.

Bob ,   South Lebanon   (03.31.11)
If Lebanon is not attacking Israel, why is Israel continually violating Lebanon airspace several times a day? If Israel does not plan to attack Lebanon, does it matter where they place their bunkers?
64. The UN is now on notice
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.31.11)
All those mosques, hospitals and schools which are being used to cache weapons are now, under international law, legitimate military targets. The release of the map is a warning. Israel will conduct any forthcoming operation in Lebanon (and it's coming; we all know that) without the gentle touch of 2006. UNIFIL has proven itself at best incompetent and at worst terrorist collaborators. Makes no never mind. Any collateral damage and civilian deaths will be entirely the fault of Hezbollah and its UNIFIL toadies. Dead civilians? What a shame. How about all those dead civilians in Afghanistan, Iraq and Waziristan? The death toll in these theatres of operation is up near 100,000 civilians. Castigate Israel? Only if you are prepared to call NATO and its principal actors in Afghanistan, Iraq and Waziristan -- the United States and the U.K. -- to task, as well. All or none. The threat faced by Israel by Hezbollah's arm buildup in Lebanon is far greater than the threat faced by NATO forces. What was that you were saying about dividing Jerusalem, Secretary General Moon? Care to reconsider? Israel has provided evidence that the United Nations is a terrorist collaborator. Either prove Israel wrong (you cannot), tuck your tail neatly between your legs and clean up your nasty little house -- or face the consequences. (Those consequences, by the way, include a new northern border for Israel -- the Litani.) Think about it. Think about this, too: you and your less-than-illustrious predecessor, the discredited Kofi Annan, are liable to be charged as war criminals for allowing Hezbollah to re-arm, which is a violation of the United Nations' own resolutions! We'll clean up Hezbollah, one way or another. You can opt to do the right thing -- or get scraped up in Israel's wake. Your choice. Israel is not playing any more.

solomon ,   bklyn   (03.31.11)
#54 D- Yes, let's talk about them: they are only in your mind. No, it is not a serious subject, as they do not exist. Provide facts, please. Or is your "proof" that it is a secret and you are the only one who knows? #61, #62 Bob- "Please get your facts correct." Don't ignore them either. Some facts you choose to ignore: 1. UNIFIL was supposed to stop Hezbollah from rearming south of the Litani. (They did a great job, right?) 2. Hezbollah is now part and parcel of Lebanon, has vowed to destroy Israel, and is rearming (see #1 above). Israel knows Hezbollah means to attack them, so they must know the location of their enemies positions. They may also decide on a pre-emptive strike. Either way, if 'civilians' are killed because of where Hezbollah placed their munitions, each death is the fault of Hezbollah, not Israel. It's called "human shields" en masse. How come this doesn't matter to you? I wonder...

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.31.11)
But you are in violation of an agreement to which Lebanon is a party. Hezbollah has re-armed, probably with the knowledge and consent of the United Nations, but that's their problem, not yours. And it is a problem. Good luck with the self-defense nonsense. Israel will squash you like a bug.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.31.11)
I disagree. What you saw in 2006 was a very low-level mobilization that cared a great deal about collateral damage and civilian deaths. Don't count on that happening again. You'll see higher Israeli mobilization and rigorous bombing of all weapons caches -- bunkers, schools, hospitals and mosques. Any civilian deaths in Lebanon resulting from Israeli bombardment of these legitimate military targets are therefore the moral and legal responsibility of Hezbollah, Lebanon and the United Nations. Incapabilities? Oh, I shouldn't think so.

tell me that there are no Government officials that could ask for international Help?
70. Maledictione allah, maledictione islam,
jo   (03.31.11)
maledictione hezbo, and maledictione rolly-polly nasrallah. Unifil is as worthless as the security council, who is as worthless as the UN, who is as worthless as the UN's Secretary Geeneral. Commanded by French Generals, or by Italian Generals, the buffoonery is the same, only the uniforms and the language changes.
71. #50 - Why? Dimona is not under a UN Resolution
William ,   Israel   (03.31.11)
it's also not part of the NPT which Israel is not a signatore of, and the Dimona plant is not a threat to anyone. Conversely, UNR1701 absolutely states that Hizbullah must be disarmed and NO HIzbullah activities should occur south of the Litani. Also, these weapons are not defensive but offensive, proven by Hizbullah's unilateral actions in the past, their clear disregard for civilians on both sides, and the daily threats against Israel they make. Just by having these weapons next to hospitals and in inside villages is a clear violation of so many Intl Laws. Dimona is not close to any civilian areas. You were saying?
72. #49 - but its not your right to kill Israelis inside Israel
William ,   Israel   (03.31.11)
or kidnap them, or threaten to destroy their State, or send rockets and mercenaries to kill our civilians. Lest you forget, it was Nasrallah that made the first move in 2006 which caused this war, one that he apologized for on TV. We may have a cease-fire agreement but it hasn't kept you from harboring terrorists who target Israelis all the time. That's a violation of the cease-fire and should be grounds for destroying you but we didn't. You only have the right to defend yourself IF you are the target of aggression. So far, you've been the source of aggression, everytime. But since you feel you have a right to all these weapons (defensive, of course), and place them right next to civilians, please do not send your politicians to cry on TV about the outcome. You brought it on yourselves. And under the Geneva Convention, Hizbullah just negated protection over entire villages. What say you to that?
73. #63 - preparation for when Lebanon DOES attack Israel
William ,   Israel   (03.31.11)
and it's not "if", it's "when", based on 63 years of precedent, increasing terrorist activity funded by Iran, and constant threats. Remember, the 2006 war was started by Nasrallah, not Israel. Had Hizbullah adhered to the resolution to be disarmed, Israel would have stopped the overflights as they would have been unnecessary. Now with 40K rockets aimed at civilians, its not just a right for Israel to make overflights but a duty.
74. #54 - "rockets...aimed at every major city of the world"???
William ,   Israel   (03.31.11)
I particularly like that Israel has plans to wipe out Edmonton, Canada and Papeete, Tahiti with biological weapons in the next altercation. What have the Tahitians ever done for us?? I'm sorry, you must be speaking about Iran. Israel doesn't have that many weapons (based on global analysts) and might not even have chemical or nuke bombs. One thing for sure, the majority of global powers do not feel threatened by Israel's arsenal knowing that even at the darkest time in history Israel never pulled the nuke card. Iran pulled the nuke card even before they had a program.
75. #44 - No Map On Washington Post Site
Dan ,   Collinsville, USA   (04.02.11)
Why in creation did the Israeli military give the Washington Post anything? Now the Hizbollah map of Lebanon has been forever buried and discarded. If you want to reach the American public, PUT IT ON YOU-TUBE!
