One problem here might have been that he wanted to see Niagara Falls but flew to Vancouver. (It would have made much more sense to fly to Toronto since Vancouver is 3000 km *past* his Niagara Falls destination.) Let's not ommit the latest TSA hysteria in the US when they strip and pat little kids and old ladies, - heck even US Soldiers returning from active duty - or, alternatively they irradiate people and laugh at their genitals! I am black man living in Germany . The police in Germany are in general very professional and very helpful. What has happened to Mr. Demaka is very shameful, but this is not the usual behavior of Germans or their officers. I hope he will get proper apology and compensation for the mistreatments he had to endure, and the officers need to face due investigation.

Neither do I believe the chuzpe nor your story. But what i you traveled with a chinese passport without being Eastern Asian: Would you also consider it racist if that rose suspicion? Maybe your guard was a little clumsy if he really said that. But do keep in mind what his reasons were. And do consider that he probably never visited Israel and therefore only has a very vague idea of the country. After all the purpose of airport security is to provide security. On German airports just like everywhere else they double check on on passengers that for some reason seem suspicious.

Michael - if there was an injustice here, then let's make sure it is properly rectified. However, your statement about seeing this "many times" and referencing the Nellis case is weak. Susan Nellis faced her accusers and was acquitted more than 25 years ago. she was largely the victim of an irresponsible print media. this "cherry picked" example from the 1980's hardly speaks to any sort of systemic abuse and doesn't speak AT ALL to the accusations being thrown about by mr. damka of religious and racial discrimination. Ms. Nellis was a white nurse and religion didn't play a factor in the case. There may be a point to be made here about mr. damka's treatment. i imagine the truth will be a little more nuanced than what we're hearing today. My point is that commenters like Michael don't advance the dialogue when they engage in this kind of selective internet rage.
