31. Abdulla's town
Miche Norman ,   Hod Hasharon Israel   (04.04.11)
Since you claim to have won the war - why is your city named after the first day of the war an not the last - why don't you celebrate the end of the war if you won it?
32. Sidenotes
Victor ,   Toronto, CANADA   (04.04.11)
Israel does not have Leviathan yet, gas which will be harvested in the future cannot be used now. Egyptians were governed by dictators from the moment Farouk I lost his throne and he was not a democrat either. There was no revolution in Egypt, it was a military putsch which most likely will be followed not by a democracy but by another dictatorship or theocracy. It is not a good idea to renegade on the deal you signed. If Egypt can do this, what about new country of Southern Sudan and countries south to it which even did not sign the water-sharing treaty with Egypt (it was signed on their behalf by colonial powers). Bye-bye gardens and swimming pools of Egyptian riches, welcome to severe water rations. Where you are going to buy desalination technology? - Right, from Israel. So play nicely.
33. To #14
Shai ,   USA   (04.04.11)
Egypt under Mubarack made hundreds of deals with dozens of countries all over the world. Are you going to extort money from the other countries too, or as is always the case are you going to single out Israel. Nothing seems to be changing in Egypt. We can see the same intolerance, war mongering, and total disregard for the rule of law. Every country gets the government it deserves.
34. to #14
Rafi ,   Montreal, Canada   (04.04.11)
Good deals are part of any business and governments are exactly that Mr Idealistic... I suggest that you now go after the seller...not the buyers...there are too many to mention..as far as trading...think well and far...Egypt got a lot more from its trade with Israel...directly and indirectly....sorry if an Egyptian dictator got his share too...he is part of your people.
35. to# 20
FRANCE ,   PARIS   (04.04.11)
what you say is true for 73, but this time the situation is much more difficult for israel because in 73 of Egypt had a population of only 35 million inhabitants compared with 82 million today. israel did not stand a chance against Egypt and its powerful army with American material
36. Gas misinformation
Mo ,   Dubai   (04.04.11)
I see many comments on being the sole importer and its the closest transport and what is right and wrong. First of all Egypt can export through vessels rather than the pipeline - this does not make for poor negotiating for Egypt, but for Israel which is without resources (for now). In any business practice it is fair trade to put the correct prices to any commodity even if there was an advantage. Unless it is disclosed why Israel got cheap gas from Egypt, then retroactive prices must be enforced or negotiated. This is not a case of war, but of Trade. To view it in another light is incorrect and destructive
37. It is different..
Wael ,   Cairo   (04.04.11)
It is different now, and you can not hide how horrified you are, I would be if I were you. Soon the region would be facing a tremendous confrontation. And people won't be giving a shit for the international opinion and the hypocrite international organization that don't get any respect from Israel itself, soon enough people of the middle east would flush all the nonsense down the toilet and tell me what will you do when you have a war on 3 or 4 fronts at the same time. This is no because we hate you, this is because you deserve it for what you did and what you still do..enjoy it.
38. Idiot ?! Is that what you call who asks for his rights ?
Amro ,   Cairo,Egypt   (04.04.11)
When deals are made by some corrupt ministers and business men without the approval of the Egyptians , then Egypt can change the terms of this deal or even cancel it !
39. Nabil Alarabi
Ahmed ,   Egypt   (04.04.11)
we all behind this man and we want him in the new government . ah by the way we will get back our city um-alreshrash (Eilat) like we got Taba !
40. Gas in Egypt
Roger Jourdan ,   Paris, France   (04.05.11)
The point is that the Midor project in Egypt was initiated by Israeli businessman Yossi Maiman with a group of companies searching at their expenses and they were finally ripped off by the Mubarak family and other big local guys. The only real gain was probably a preferable price for the state of Israel. I guess and only guess that most of Mubarak money come from the broken agrement and the buyback of Maiman's shares at egyptian dictator's price :)
41. Disputes are ridiculous
Roger Jourdan ,   Paris, France   (04.05.11)
Fact is that Israel is an asset for Egypt and certainly a better neighbour than Lybia. Israel is able to bring a sense of democracy, freedom and good life to a country that will go through the hard time of discovering freedom as Tunisia is going through at this moment. Modern Egyptian people in the world enjoy excellent relations with jews and they like each other. It is time for Egyptian to understand that Jews are no threat to their country and Israel is simply good for this region with good people with no bad intention.
42. To 41, M Roger Jourdan
Luiz Felipe Haddad ,   Brazil   (04.05.11)
Dear M Roger Jourdan. I fully agree with you. Israel and Egypt, since 1978, have respected the Camp David Treaty, made by Anwar Sadat and Menachen Begin, through US President Jimmy Carter's mediation. That situation must never be changed. Israel is a good neighbor, and Egypt has to understand it. Peace is better for the both ones. But if the Jewish State is attacked again, anyone will be able to deny Her the right of defence, with all consequences. If the Egyptians want to keep Sinai forever, they ought to think seriously about "renewing" Nasser's bad behaviour that has provoked Six Day's War. . Je vous salue, mon ami.
43. Egypt to charge Israel for gas bought during the Mubarak era
Larry Shapiro ,   Rancho Mirage U.S.A.   (04.05.11)
Israel should retaliate by charging Egypt for not paying Jewish slaves who built the Pyramids, and if Egypt refuses, take title to the Pyramids.
44. Contracts cannot be changed retroactively
Maurice ,   Los Angeles, USA   (04.05.11)
Even if the deal was a bad for Egypt, the fact is it was signed and cannot be changed after the fact. Egypt can ask to renegotiate going forward but it will be for the short term as Israel has now massive reserves of natural gas.
45. is that fair to sell gas to Israel with reduced price?
ahmed ,   Cairo   (04.05.11)
is that fair to sell gas to Israel with a reduced price while Egyptian government sells it to us with international price? i have a dream that one day the Jewish state or Israel integrates with its neighbors as the European union. if justice prevails peace definitely will prevail. i mean real justice. if there had been a real justice (social, economic, ext. ) in Egypt we would not have been one century behind other advanced countries. if there had been real justice in Israel we would not have had great prison called Gaza or millions of Palestinian refugees spread in many countries. I HAVE A DREAM. sent by :Egyptian citizen his heart still exists in Liberation square 'Tahrer square"
46. Reply to # 18
Ahmed ,   Cairo   (04.05.11)
i agree , we should not blame Israel for every disaster or problem we have. i think previous regimes used to use Israel as a pretext to oppress their people and attack it in media to prove their patriotism and secretly a way from media they hug and arrange secret deals. it is our fault. one final thing to add, we should read the history from both sides to see the whole picture. state media on both sides used to blame the other side for waging wars. we should read and do our own research to reach a reasonable independent non-biased conclusion.
47. Why is everyone so pissed off..
Marwa ,   Cairo - Egypt   (04.05.11)
Why are so many people arguing about this anyway? This was a suspicious deal that the Egyptian people didn't approve of whatsoever. What's so bad with giving the Egyptian people back their rights and their money? Why is it such and appalling idea?
48. to the funny number 31
Marwa ,   Cairo - Egypt   (04.05.11)
If we (the proud Egyptians) didn't win the war, then why did you get out of our beloved Sinai? Charity? I don't expect the Israelis to give charity to anyone specially if it materializes in Sinai.
49. #17 April Cairo
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (04.05.11)
Come back to earth Check your casualty figures for every war you ever started against Israel Take a guided tour of Mitla & Ghidi passes, they're strewn with destroyed Egyptian armor & vehicles Next war, bye bye, Aswan High Dam & Suez Canal, you will lose so much revenue you won't be able to afford a piece of horse dung for lunch
50. Foreign Minister Makes No Sense
Adam Helberg ,   USA   (04.05.11)
Once you sell something for an agreed price you can't go back and decide to raise the price. They can raise the price in the future but not in the past.
51. no. 36,37,38,39, Arabs are greedy as always
(04.05.11)
Arabs never respect treaties for long. Their vile Koran doesn't allow for that When it is convenient for Arabs they unilaterally change what was agreed upon This is why Arabs are not trusted by anyone in the world, not even with each other It is the reason for the pathetic conditions in all Arab countries and a society bent on being barbaric
52. one thing never changes 37
Barney ,   USA   (04.05.11)
that is the arab's capacity for hate above and beyond love for their own. Israel will not lose. The arabs will get their asses kicked and then cry on the world stage. You talk about the arabs not caring about international organizations? It is only Israel who has needlessly worried about world opinion. otherwise the arabs would be cooking on and eating their camel dung. Should push come to shove for Israel then the real weaponry, beyond your feeble imagination, will come out. good luck to you guys who are your own worst enemy. your contribution to the world? nothing except the good luck to be sitting on oil reserves which you needed civilized nations of the west to extract for you.
53. #36 Mo
rivka   (04.05.11)
Then you would agree, on the same principle, that the seven countries in Africa - who all share the Nile river water stream - can, by the same token - decide that they feel cheated by the water treaty - and reduce the water supply to Egypt by 80%. What Egypt is not understanding, is that when you go back on your word, you defeat your own credibility. No other potential partner will trust any signed agreement. If Egypt wants open that can of worms - they will be damaging their water supply - and their tourist industry. Further down the road - Erdogan, al Assad, Ahmedinejad incorporated - with their home grown terror agents - MB, Hamas,Hizbullah, Fatah,AQ et al......have been planning to slaughter the cow of Egypt for years. Iran wants to control the Suez and all it's revenues, and it's infrastructure. With a sharia / basji government - tourism will end, and all western trade and investment will end. This means that Erdogan will profit from and divert the tourist industry to Turkey's pockets. Assad did the same deal with Lebanon's tourist industry. Iran wants the oil in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Opening a can of worms is not so bad - until you realize you opened a can of crocodiles. When you are married for 30 years - you can't divorce your wife because she is not a virgin. You can own all the commodities in the world - but when nobody trusts your word - you will find no buyer. Commodities perish - but honor is the parent of trust
54. Yippee!
R ,   Israel   (04.05.11)
We're finally going to get an electric range instead of the gas one! They are so much easier to clean!
55. So much hate
Neva Agen ,   USA   (04.05.11)
Seems like the good old days are back again. Lots of hate eminating from the A side. Sick, sick, sick, sick. Where are you Sadat when you are needed most.
56. 40 is right
Gershon ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.05.11)
The response to 36 is what 40 says. Retroactively changing the price requires a lot more than just an unfair price. Basically, Mubarak took the money. Good luck trying to get it back.
57. Hegazi, s7s, proud Arab, Mo, Wael, Amro, et al
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.05.11)
It is my understanding that the Israeli government has stated that they are prepared to renegotiate gas prices. They will NOT, however, renegotiate retroactively. Once you do that, NO agreement can be trusted. If you insist on renegotiation you will probably find no one willing to deal with you in the future. And/Or someone else may then turn the tables on you and insist on renegotiating a deal that was good for Egypt. You can't have it both ways, no matter how much you want it to be that way.
58. Reply to #25
Ahmed ,   Cairo   (04.05.11)
i totally agree with you on the idea of looking forward to having a better future and stop threatening language as in comments #27,27,49. i can say that not only me who supports that idea but may be majority of Egyptians. we just want social justice and peace for us and Palestinians and Israelis Arabs mistrust Arabs because we have been governed by a totalitarian and very oppressive regimes spying on their citizens and do not give them a good education (education is a weapon can be used against dictators). we may fight each other because of war profiteers or for the safety and the interest of our dictators. we are almost 85 millions and with democracy and social justice we can overcome our huge problems and come back on track and economies in the middle east grow and the region become more stable. strategically this a very scenario for both sides as militarization of societies in the region especially Israel has a very bad effect on the quality of life on the long term in these societies.
59. Slave Labor reparations
Chaim ,   L.A.   (04.05.11)
First, Egypt must settle it's long standing debt to Israel for all the slave labor. Let's start by getting royalties on all the pyramid tours.
60. Time for the Egyptians to pay
Berel ,   Jersualem Israel   (04.05.11)
