Egypt ruled Gaza for nearly twenty years and then dumped it. It's ties, language, history, and culture, are very strong. Many Egyptians also live in Gaza and the many of the people of Gaza are the descendants of Egyptian settlements left after the invasion of the Pasha Ibrahim Ali in the early 1800s. Gaza prefers Egypt. And ties with Egypt, business, and culture, are preferable.
