Proud Israeli ,   Kiryat Shmona   (04.09.11)
Countless wars, intifadas and aggression by the Arab nations and Palestinians against the Jews Countless suicide bombings and terror attacks against Israeli civilians Countless attempts to resolve the conflict via diplomacy and negotiations met by rejection by the Palestinians Countless proclamations of hate, intolerance and bigotry against the Jews Countless rejections of land partition by the Palestinians Countless roadblocks dismantled that have led to an increase in attempted terror attacks by the Palestinians Given this background, I would say that Israel has done more than its fair share of trying to establish peace, while those actions aren't reciprocated by Hamas whatsoever. It just demonstrates that you would be an excellent propagandist for Hamas, as you carefully ignore the background of the situation.
62. 22 - AK47- in my view is better than the M-16,
split ,   US   (04.09.11)
Agree - I would add much better and reliable. In regard to the rest of your post I suggest get a shrink ,... Have nice day ,...
63. #57 More Accurate Background
Cynthia ,   USA   (04.09.11)
Decades of missed opportunity Decades of terror against Israel Decades of misused foreign aid Decades of sabotaged negotiations Decades of anti-Israel propaganda Decades of dependence on Israel Decades of self-destruction Decades of lies and fabrications javier has demonstrated how apologists for terror distort the truth.
64. #57 Cynthia does it better than you boy!
Decades of Pal Lies ,   and BS   (04.10.11)
Unfortunately for you son, your rant is just re-hashed propaganda that absolutely suits Jew and Israel-haters around the world. You people still kid yourselves that your little Pal friends are completely innocent and down-trodden. They most certainly are not. Read Cynthia's points and choke on them!
65. The art of disproportion
Toby ,   RSA   (04.09.11)
Not only did Britain level the city of Dresden to shorten the war in Europe, but Boer women and children from the Republics of the Transvaal and Orange Free State were taken from farms, scorched the earth and sent them to concentration camps during the Anglo Boer War 1899-1902 where 26000 + died in these camps.

I am going with the official NATO casualty reports and I am also disinclined to include deaths that result from Arab on Arab violence. I understand that the true number of civilian casualties are far in excess of what NATO is claiming, but I will only use the numbers that can be reliably documented. Using the real civilian casualty figures from Iraq, Afghanistan and Waziristan only serves to buttress the care that Israel takes in conducting its operations, but I cannot find reliable documentation for those numbers, so I will not use them. I do know that they have been reported to be in excess of one million, though. Thank you, though. If you have reliable sources for the actual civilian casualty figures in Iraq, Afghanistan and Waziristan, please post them. I have not found any sources remotely reliable.
67. #57 - Javier
Maurice ,   Montreal   (04.09.11)
Your talkback demonstrates that YOU are the propagandist for Hamas (and a bad one too!), as you carefully ignore all background of the situation. For starters, you are talking of "decades of occupation" and "stolen lands". I would like to remind you that it was the Arabs who refused to recognize the UN partition in 1948 which was to create two countries, one for the Arabs, one for the Jews! Also, it was the Arabs that attacked the newly born Israel in 1948 to destroy it. Ever since these so called "Palestinians" have not changed their ultimate purpose of destroyng Israel and killing every single Jew! Just read Hamas's charter. So, please don't come now and blame Israel for the "Palestinians" troubles. Assez de balivernes Javier, tu n'as convaincu personne!
68. @57, additional context
Dan ,   Chicago usa   (04.10.11)
Jews have an ancient history in the places you call "occupied" going back 1500 years before Islam: western wall, Bethlehem, Jericho. My opinion is that a peaceful future begins with acknowledging a shared history and then making difficult sacrifices for a better future. Israel tried to do that when it offered a Palestinian state in 1947, 1967, 1978, 1995, 2000 and 2008. Maybe those offers weren't enough, I don't know. Your opinion, if I understand correctly, is that a better future begins with ignoring our shared history and then firing rockets at anything at all. Well, ham as is trying that approach this week, let's see how well it works out... Btw didn't your country just ban headscarves? (Muslims in Israel wear them freely.)
69. the Nazi Germany's 'war' against Jews
Tomek ,   Poland   (04.10.11)
was also disproportionate.
70. State vs. Nonstate & the Rules of War
Moll ,   Calgary, Canada   (04.10.11)
The rules of war only apply nation-state vs. nation-state. The problem between the nonstate tribal arabs in Judea, Samaria & Gaza and the State of Israel is that it is a conflict between a state and a ragtag stateless tribal arabs. The "rules of war" only apply to Israel. The stateless tribal arabs don't play the game by any rules at all! They invent them as they go along. And there are countless "useful idiots" world-wide who are standing in solidarity with the stateless tribal arabs.
71. @50 & 55 I did spend a day in sderot
Dan ,   Chicago usa   (04.10.11)
You'll be interested to know that though a bit shellshocked, it's residents are not bitter or violent or even angry. They build more bomb shelters ( most recently an entire elementary school ) they support IDF efforts to destroy rocket launchers and terror commanders, and they feel sad when Palestinians die accidentally from Hamas carelessness. The only thing that consistently bothers them is when it seems the world doesn't know. Btw- sderot includes Palestinians who fled as refugees from Hamas to Israel. Hamas fires rockets at them too.
72. It is much simpler
common sense ,   ashkelon   (04.10.11)
When small-time criminal robbed a store using baseball bat and knife, would had been silly to expect from policeman arresting this criminal using bat and knife too and not his handgun.
73. To: Moll at No. 70
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.10.11)
Agreed, but the rules of war apply to a nation-state that has an affirmative duty to defend its citizens from terrorist attack. Thus far, Israel treated all the terrorist groups arrayed against them (and there are quite a few) with kid gloves. When those gloves come off -- and sooner or later, they will -- watch out.
74. To: No. 57
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.10.11)
My, my, my -- are you ever ignorant! There is no "occupation." First of all, Israel has entirely withdrawn from non-sovereign Gaza, but let's address Judea and Samaria (the West Bank). Israel acquired the non-sovereign West Bank in the course of fighting a DEFENSIVE war against Jordan. Israel is therefore fully entitled to settle the West Bank as it pleases. Moreover, because Jordan's Citizenship Law of 1954 bestowed Jordanian citizenship to all West Bank Arabs and their progeny irrevocably, when Israel formally annexes Judea and Samaria -- as it surely will -- all the West Bank Arabs will be repatriated to Jordan, country of their citizenship. Moreover, I would like to remind you that the ersatz "Palestinians" have had no fewer than three opportunities to accept a two-state solution, and have rejected all three -- including, most recently, an offer which would have awarded them 90% of the West Bank and East Jerusalem as a capital. They walked from that one, and chose to start the second intifada instead. That didn't go so well for them, but -- hey -- not Israel's fault. It is time for the ersatz "Palestinians" to take responsibility for their actions, and for the consequences that ensue. Six wars; seven decades of unrelenting terror have not worked out so well for them, either, but -- hey -- not Israel's fault, either. Acquaint yourself with the facts, and the rule of international law, before you spout nonsense.
75. #71 I did the same, G-d bless them!
Claudia ,   Tampa USA   (04.10.11)
An organization I belong to, Christians United for Israel has donated $$ to build shelters in Sderot. I went to Israel previously and even then was so heartened by the Israeli citizens because they are not bitter at the Muslims that are daily trying to kill them. It is an amazing thing that they are such positive delightful people, but I think that comes from their Jewish beliefs whether they are religious or not it does give them a positive way of life and I am so happy Christianity has inherited that from Judaism. As I have written before, it must be a dreadful way of life to believe it is right and just to be able to slaughter others indescriminately. As the author of this very insightful article points out proportionate response, there is no modifying tendancy in Islam. The only thing that keeps them at bay is the stength of Israel and the West. al-Zahar's statement sounds more like a description of Islam than anything close to the Jewish faith. Judaism does not demand the alligance of nonbelievers, or dhimmi payment, or death to gentiles. That is exactly what is demanded by Islam, and that is why at some point the world will rise up against these bigots. I just hope it is sooner than later!
76. Hamas - War - Disproportion
Boris Yasdnilkov ,   Fernandina Beach, US   (04.10.11)
Harsh as it may sound, U.S. General Curtis LeMay summed it up succinctly when he said: "You ask what war is all abourt? I'll tell you. It is about killing people. When you have killed enough of them they stop fighting." Obviously Hamas is at war with Israel. When will Hamas stop fighting? Well?

hey sarah b. here you go again for the umptieth time. how much do you have to repeat the same mantra, before you can impress other people and before you can convince others who have another opinion than you? the persevering person wins. you are an anti-semite who is obsessed with hatred to palestinians and other arabs and perhaps to other people(s) and lewd on it and what did you reach with that already? do you really know what your aim is with this? you are an ignorant fool yourself with your one-sided indignation, xenophobia, anti-semitism, racism, hate-mongering, war-mongering. keep your insults, hatred and obsessions to yourself and enjoy them. when do you begin your own war against everybody and every people(s) you hate? no/not only words, but also deeds! this is the song of feyenoord football/soccer-club. do not shelter behind netanyahu and friends and behind "the most moral army in the world" they are busy enough. perhaps you can also get money etc. from the us-taxpayers and maybe you can get this back from the taxes. be brave and be an example. mazeltov.

Can you count for me how many rockets the Jews fired at Germans? Can you tell me which Jewish territory the Nazis occupied from the Jews? Last I checked they invaded Poland. Care to explain to me the parallels of your comment?
82. 22 - AK47- in my view is better than the M-16,

This is nothing more then an ad for Israeli spin dr's that would spout such garbage. It is nothing more then a peice of trash, and even that is insulting to what is in my garbage can!

You are the reason the world thinks all Americans are stupid! WIKIPEDIA IS NOT A VALID SOURCE!!!!! EVER!!!!!
88. # 13
Michael ,   Jerusalem   (04.10.11)
Get your facts right doofus. That figure of only 383 was supplied by the Palestinians and leftist NGOs. Ther's also proof that they counted combatants among the "civilian" casualties. Even Hamas later admitted that the combatants killed numbered about 700.
